Painfully Painful! (WARNING: could be grahic)

So I hear a lot on this site (and pretty much everywhere) about EMOTIONAL pain.. and while that is very very difficult to heal since it takes a LOT longer and its a LOT harder and more scaring, I don't hear much about the physical stuff.
SO, to satisfy my curious and slightly sadistic personality, I want to hear about the worst PHYSICAL (not emotional) pain you've ever been in.

How old were you? Did you need stitches/surgery? Were you scared? etc.
(It can be graphic, but please keep in mind it's a PG-13 site)

Surprisingly, I've never really experienced any horrible physical pain. The worst that I can think of that's happened to me is stepping on a long nail while hiking- it went an inch into my foot, but it missed everything important. .-. I think I was about twelve at the time, and all I did was wash it off with river water and wrap a hankie around it. It was scary, because I was paranoid about more nails laying around after that XD

I bruised the arch bone of my foot. it took 6 months to heal to a point where it didn't hurt often. It was delayed pain. The day after it felt like sprain. No big deal. The same on Monday. Tuesday, I step down and omg! I thought I broke it.

I also, sprained my left shoulder and didn't get physical therapy on it for about year.

Oh god...where to begin? I think the only cut that actually hurt, was when I was slicing Lemons and then went to peel some Apples with the same knife, ended up cutting my thumb open a little, and got loads of lemon juice in the cut. That was the only one that really hurt. The only really bad one that I can think of is from when I was working in a paint recycling warehouse. We had to cut holes into the cans to empty them, and one of them ended up getting stuck, I grabedd it(with my thumb on the inside of the can) and ended up slicing my thumb open almost to the bone. Took 7days for the bleeding to stop, and everyone said I should go to the doctor...I didnt bother. Just kept pressure on it, and ended up going through a box of band-aids by the time it was all healed.

I usually don't get hurt or sick. I've had some bad stomach flus (flues? floos? fluses? o__o;; ) and I had a reeeaaally high ever when I was little but as for impact-type injury... not much either. When I was about eleven or twelve I fell out of a tree and fractured one of the itty-bitty lil' bones in my wrist. It hurt a lot and I landed also on my butt and it hurt to sit for a long time too D: I had the cast for twelve weeks. That's about all I got but I have been around for bad things happening to friends.

One of my friends hit her sister in the face with a rock and blood was spurting out kind of a bit and she had to go to the emergency room. I was riding a bike with one of my friends and she fell and the hand brake stabbed into her leg. You could see under her skin because of the hole! Another one of my friends had corrective surgery on his feet, they had to put a rod with screws attached to his bones to stretch them out, so for six months he had to painful metal in his feet and had to use crutches. He used a lot of painkillers but it hurt a lot anyway. Then he had to get the other foot done D:
When I was little, my other friend was playing tag with me and he ducked into one of those playground fort tunnels and hit his back on the edge and it took off the skin on his back. You could see the white of the cartilage/bone whatevers underneath.

Don't feel bad rainbows, I didn't have anything fun happen to me either. The only really painful thing I've ever gone through was one day when I was 15, I had horrible period cramps. It was so bad and on the apendix side, I thought it was my apendix rupturing!! It only lasted about 10 minutes though, so I didn't think anything of it.
I was doubled over in my room crying in pain though. I really thought something ruptured! D:

Runes, anything with the foot is terrible! :( My dad would know best haha! He's had so many things go wrong with his :XD

Draciolus, not gonna lie, the thumb thing was hilarious! You didn't go to a doctor?!? Jeez, that's rediculous!
One time, a vending machine fell on my brother's friend's thumb and took it right off. I found it later (long after it could be reattached) and then gave it back to him on Christmas (a few weeks later).

Wow Zack!! I'm so glad I never had anything that happened to your friends happen to me! I guess I should be grateful!! :x it sounds awful!!

Shiruvya 02-26-2010 01:30 AM

An hour after my period starts every month I get horrible attacks where I puke, shake, almost faint, and have horrible muscle, bone and cramping pains...most definitely the worst.
I usually find myself thinking how I'd cut 30 years off of my life span if I could never feel that again... It's..pretty bad. I hear it isn't all that uncommon though. Not really sure about the degree other people have is the thing.

Liquid Diamond 02-26-2010 01:33 AM

OMG You have to go through that every MONTH?!? That's horrible!!! D: I guess suggesting Advil would be stupid.. what if that happens in public?!

Beetle 02-26-2010 02:20 AM

Toothache (I had a hole in my tooth for two years ^^').

Liquid Diamond 02-26-2010 02:29 AM

2 years?!? How come you waited so long to fix it?! :(

Nadhja 02-26-2010 02:37 AM

omg... i just finished my meat cutting class here in college and i had the strictest chef in the school... true fact...
ok so for sanitation at the end of our 6 hour class, we have to move everything from one side of the room to the other so we can scrub the floors... well everything in there weighs like 200 lbs... theres 10 hard wood tables... most of the people in my class r stupid and dont know that we have a time limit to clean so me and a couple of my friends r the ones to move everything around... well when i move the tables, i grab them by the legs cause im not very big/strong and the edge of the heavy ass tables r always resting on the inside of my elbows... well over the course of my 8 day class, ive aquired some pretty nasty bruises... they hurt like hell... and it now looks like im a herion addict >.<
i know its not very graphic but god it hurts!!!

left arm:

Liquid Diamond 02-26-2010 02:41 AM

OH MY JESUS!!! Nad, that looks like it hurrrtttsss like a mother____! I've had bruises before, but never so many in one area at once!! Just wait until they get all yellow and weird colored.. then you'll really be hurtin! :(
I hope you feel better though! Ice always helps ;) DON"T use heat though.. that makes [bruises] worse!

Nadhja 02-26-2010 02:47 AM

lol yeah theyre gonna look wicked weird in like a week
omg i was at my exs house once and i turned really quickly and started to run and i smashed my thigh against a trailer (on the back of a truck), the piece of metal i hit was about the length of my hand... my thigh turned almost black >.< when it started to heal, it turned purple and blue, then green, then orange, red and yellow... and my other thigh was all red and orange and yellow cause for some reason i scratch my legs at night and give myself bruises >.< wicked bad dry skin at random times in the year...

Beetle 02-26-2010 02:50 AM

@Liquid Diamond: I'm scared of dentists! =(

Vamperus 02-26-2010 03:53 AM

worst pain for me was a broken ankle, i walked around on it for five hours before the pain became unbarable, when i got to the hospital i couldn't move my leg at all with out it hurting. i had to get a cast, and after everything was healed my right calf muscle was alot smaller than the left, it sucks i look abnormal lol ^.^ and now i can't run because my ankle will just give out and i'll fall... O.o

Ryuujadie 02-26-2010 04:49 AM

The worst physically pain I have been in is when I hurt my back doing bacl flips in the pool. When I was finishing off one of the back flips I hit the side of the pool the same time I hit the water. Literally once I hit the water the air was knocked right out of me and my lower back and legs felt like they had been crushed. I was able to pull myself out of the pool and had to walk home to my apartment. When I got to the emergency room at the hospital my whole lower back was bruised and I had a huge knot on my lower back that looked liked a huge goose egg.
I was really lucky that I only sprained my back and after a month was able to move around normally and most of the bruising was gone, but to this day I still have problems with my lower back.

Quantum Angel 02-26-2010 04:56 AM

One time...I swear, my guitar was angry at me for not practicing enough. I was walking through my room...and it fell as I was bringing my foot forward...end result, kick AND crush, broke two bones in my foot. Hurt like a son of a bitch. XD;

Another extremely painful thing that happened to me was the result of my doctors being douchebags. They had to run an IV in me for a test they were doing...they missed the vein. But they thought they had it. So they started pumping the saline anyway.

Most doctors or nurses STOP when there is a lot of resistance and/or the patient complains that it burns. And well...okay, I was pretty much throwing a fit anyway (hospitals scare me to no end), but the fact that I was saying "STOP, IT HURTS, SOMETHING'S WRONG!" probably should have been a clue, as should the resistance. But no. They pumped the entire freaking thing in under my skin. Only AFTER this did they realize they'd missed the vein.

You could see the result - a nasty, discolored bruise-like thing - for two weeks. I felt it for a month. :gonk: This was made worse by the fact that at work, everything presses on that spot. x___x;;;

Vompire 02-26-2010 02:34 PM

Well, once I fell over the handlebars on my bike, and landed head-first on a bunch of stones o.o Made my face, and sisters bike bloody, and my teeth are still crooked many years later. I had to get 3 tooths removed to straighten them out a bit D:

And this is what my cat did to me today >.> When I wanted to go for a walk with him.. Ungrateful cat!

LadyNique 02-26-2010 03:09 PM

physical pain ~thinks~ I have a very high pain threshold so I'd have to say the worst pain I go through is my migraines that require dark rooms and ear plugs for noise reduction. I've sliced the spot by my thumb open before cleaning a can for recycling (the most used part of the hand at that -.-) I've had stitches lower on the body (baby related for the curious and not to get graphic) but they were nothing compared to the migraines that hit hard without warning and confuse the doctors. Oh and the tailbone that I hurt falling down the stairs...but it only bothers me in cold or extremely wet weather. Boring I know but wanted to add to the thread ^_^

amyrex2 02-26-2010 03:32 PM

I broke my nose tripping over a garbage can at work. I also broke my leg...I didn't even feel the pain in my leg my face hurt so much. I had to have surgery to straighten it back out. To this day I wonder how any one, and i mean ANYONE can hate their face enough to willingly have their noses "fixed" I was on so many pain meds that I was high for a month straight. I also had to wear a cast on my nose.

Strange thing though, for years afterward, every time I would eat rice, a single piece would fly up into my sinuses and I would literally have to blow my nose to get it out. I checked, there was always a grain of rice there.

I live in fear of things flying at my face now.

The pain was indescribable.

silenttiger43 02-26-2010 04:27 PM

Well I've gashed the crook of my thumb open far enough to see the bone, although it wasn't all that painful strangely enough. I would have to say that this one takes the cake and it's a long story so hang in there.
Wisdom Teeth.

Now for your average, ordinary Joe or Jill, removing your wisdom teeth is a standard procedure. You might be down and out for about a week before it's OK to return to life and let the rest of things heal up as you move on.
I'm the youngest of three siblings and the last person to get her wisdom teeth removed. So I did the math, my father didn't have much trouble removing his, my mother had a bit of a bad experience however that was due to the surgeon. One of my older brothers went out to play baseball the same day he got his out, my other brother went skateboarding the day after.

I should have been fine.

I go to school a fair distance from home and I can't afford to take days off so the only available home time was Christmas break. It was a bit disappointing, however judging by the rest of my family I'd have more than enough time to recover and eat our Christmas feast. So I went in and got those teeth removed without any problems at all. I spent the rest of the day in a medicated daze and by the next day I was feeling well enough to go out for an hour or two. This was also one of the rare occasions I can hang out with my friends from home so I really wanted to see them.

By day four I was in excruciating pain however we were told that was usually the worst day. I took my super pain killers, got a bit giddy and dealt with it.

One week after my teeth had been removed I found myself waking up for three nights in a row in tears. My medication had worn off as I slept and sheer agony had awoken me in the middle of the night. Finally we managed to get in to the oral surgeon on call (the one that had actually removed my teeth was on holidays, go figure) and this man fixed things right up. It still hurt, but he put a very nasty tasting dressing in the gaping hole where a tooth used to be. Apparently one out of the three teeth that had been removed, decided not to heal the way it was supposed to.
Might I mention that this particular day was my birthday (I'm born December 28'th) and I had to cancel all of my plans to party with my friends that day. It's terribly difficult to even get a few of them together over Christmas holidays and the one year I had managed to get almost all, this happens. Oops, that's emotional pain, sorry, I shall return to my story and yes, there is more.

You may think at this point things would just get better, and for the most part they did. I was told it would take about six months for this hole to completely heal now but at least the pain had been taken care of. All I had to do was keep it clean, no problem.

Today is February 26'th and it has been two months since this happened. Time has been flying by and keeping this hole clear of food debris has become a part of every day life. It never occurred to me how long it had been until just a few days ago. I was having trouble getting a stubborn piece of food out finally grabbed hold of it and pulled.

I pulled out one of the dressings the dentist had put in two months ago. The area had not healed over at all because this had been stuck in there for so long. I thought I had gotten rid of everything yet somehow this strip of medicated bandage had stuck.

I don't have time to go back to the surgeon, and I still have a gaping hole in my mouth (haha, I mean other than my throat). Now I'm praying that the hole heals up all on it's own otherwise I am going to have this for the rest of my life.

I tend to avoid gettign injured, only sprained my ankle once in my life. But the most painful thing I did was actualyl eye surgery.

It was scary as shit, and by the time they got everythign set up, the drugs they gave me were startign to wear off, so I was kinda feeling shit.

I had lasik . At first, before the drugs kicked in, I was just scared shitless that they would fuck up and I'd be blind or my vision would be even worse. Twenty minutes later, I was digging around shit in the doctor's office, giggling and, when asked if I was ready, I gave them two thumbs up and said "FRY 'EM."

They put in some weird eyedrop that made them feel heavy, gunky and kinda hard to move them. The real pain was when they put two peices of metal under my eyelids to keep my eyes open, which the strain also hurt. I was squeezing a woman's hand through the whole procedure (which lasted they said 40 minutes) enduring it all.

I have no regrets. D: VIVA LA LASIK

For me, it would be getting ran over by a riding lawn mower when I was 3. I got three toes cut off and a portion of my foot. So, obviously, surgery and stitches were required.
