Everything was golden, bathed in the sun that barely peaked above it’s place in the sky. The walls of the cozy townhouse caught the white beams, though the warm clay-red bricks released the bright light all too quickly. In the places the light couldn’t reach thick blue pools of shadow hung as if desperately clinging to the chill of night. The flowers didn’t mind, they were too busy shining their strong royal purples and delicate peach pinks hues. Yes the earth truly is a wonderous place, an ephemeral world of unimaginable colour range. Unfortunately, near every spec of this beauty fell deaf on the eyes of the color-blind boy.

“Rather parky today ain’t it?”, he harshly whispered to no one in particular, least of all the toddler who sat beside him absentmindedly fiddling with a pinch of gaudy string. The photographer gave the kid a glance over, “I don’t suppose you have some briliant ace up your sleeve, do you. ” Davis pulled his attention from his nik-nack to part his lips in a wide toddler grin, he giggled as his brother tapped his foot to feign irritation. The older couldn‘t help it as his own smile broke out upon his face. Reaching over a hand he ruffled the boy‘s dark shock of hair, “Thought not, you little ankle biter, you.”

Faust shrugged, shuffling three jugs of orange juice out of the way before leaning back quite uncomfortably onto the stone steps. Never could the term ‘patient waiter’ be used to surmise the fellow who now waited for his mum to return with the flat key. If there were even words to describe William Faust it would be everything but patient. As a brat waiting for television shows to come on was agony. As a primary student he would click his pen tell his thumb grew soar waiting for the clock to tick out the remaining class time. Even in university there were times when he would walk half a mile to the labs rather than wait an hour for his roommate to be done with the shared computer. He wished he could say he had changed, but the whole reason he was here had everything to do with impatience. It was all Leo’s fault, he tried to convince himself. But the truth is it was all him, his stupid decision to chase his brothers shadow, even after the trail had been cold as ice for more than a year now. Yet here he was still in the same town he was born in, seeking out his brother. Waiting to find the last of the person he cared the most for.

A small babbling voice called out for his attention. He quickly apologized to the waiting boy, giving him a quick bit of attention via a light flick on the nose. The child squealed with delight as he clutched his face as if gravely wounded.

Tsunami Iyoki
Not a single ray of light beamed through the darkened clouds crowding the sky. 5 AM... Would expect the sun to be up anyway. Pale ears grew irritated as the chime of her alarm continued, repeating the same uplifing melody was danced along the keys of a piano. What day was it? Saturday... Right? It was a painful thought, a slender hand reached out, clear nails tapping on the burning red button atop the clock. Two fingers, index and middle pressed down upon the button, a click stopping the morning melody, leaving the room silent. Hazy plum eyes fell closed for what felt like seconds, yet when they opened once more heavy rays of the sun penetrated the room, warming the insides of the woman the rays bore on her.

"Mmmm..." Tsunami moaned, sitting up in her coazy, quilt-smothered bed. Her eyes slowly flicked to the clock, 8 AM. Amazing how time flew. The morning was greeted with a lazy smile, birds chirping wildly outside her window, taking delight in the bird bath sitting among her garden. The tanktop worn for bed was neatly placed upon the bed as her undergarments followed, her slow-moving form making its way to the shower. Waiting mere second for the water to heat, the bathroom was filled with steam clouding sight, yet the way was known by heart already. The heated water warmed her body as it spilled over her form in a uniform beat. Three levels of shampoos ran through her luscious locks which stuck to her neck and back, her body following with cherry blossom body wash. Soon the constant beat and flow of water stopped, leaving only the sound of lonely, sparse drops falling to the tile floor. A shower was always made short to save water, Tsunami did what she could to be 'enviornmentally safe.' Her hair was neatly combed before she began to try it, constant attention to each strand as she brushed through. As the blow dryer stopped, her hair was left slightly frazzled, yet with the brush of her comb, her hair flattened and straightened out to perfection.

Soon dressed after dressed in her usual light blue blouse and black jeans, the jacket was left behind and black slip-ons were adopted by her feet. As unhealthy as it was, Tsunami didn't eat breakfast, she was ready to start her day. As quickly as she'd gotten up, the bed was made and her undergarments and tanktop were tossed into a hamper. The quick beat of pattering feet danced down the wooden floor of the hall way, tumbling quickly down the spiral staircase leaving her in the living room. She'd sawed off some time getting ready, the day was quickly coming to a start. Grabbing her house keys and popping them in her pocket, she slipped out the door into the sunlight. Birds playing in the bath fluttered away as the heavy red door came to a close, the jingle of keys following as it locked. Today would be a wonderful day for gardening yet her plans were far different, it was a day to explore the town!

Tsunami momentairly bathed in the light of the sun, a sigh escaping her as her shoulders shuddered, delighting in the warmth. Sunny days were the best... Her lips curled into a smile as she adjusted the tank-top-like sleeves. How relaxing it was to just stand there for minute after minute. She couldn't appreciate such a lovely town enough. With a relaxed walk, she began her way along the street into the main part of town, leaving Risika behind. She was a smart girl, she knew the way and didn't need to have her hand held.

Risika Iyoki
The day always began late on Risika's watch. The constant rumble of Tsunami's movements as she prepared herself went unheard as the girl slept soundly. Tsunami was kind to Risika, very lenient as well. Often Risika was allowed to sleep until two in the afternoon on weekends, yet today was a special day. The night before, she was warned of a festival by Tsunami. Her alarm rang out, ten AM shown bright in green letters, flashing violently until the button was tenderly tapped by her fist. A messy spray of brown hair lifted from the covers, her eyes slowly opening to acknowledge the sun which beckoned her to come play outside. A stretch was thrown as her body arched, a yawn rolling from her mouth as her jaw dropped, her pajamas rustling with each movement, hanging from her limbs, obviously far too big. She liked them that way though.

A slow shuffle brought Risika to the bathroom, hunched forward, far too tired to even look at her own reflection, but as a weary hand reached forth for a tooth brush, she spread a citrus blend of tooth paste along the brissles. Lazy brushes were made as she struggled to wake herself, often this helped start her day, along with the citrus face wash which would soon follow. With a light brush of her hair, it returned to its flattened state the night before, there was no need to shower, Risika always showered before bed. It was spring, a season that had the intentions of being warm while the sun was out, but still managed to be cold. Risika slipped into her jean skirt, a slit falling from the center front until her ankles where the skirt ended. A long sleeve peach turtle neck and a brown over shirt finished the outfit. As often, she looked irresistably cute. Boots were quickly slipped on followed by her hat which sat comfortably on her head, the corners on the top looking similar to cat ears. It didn't take long for the girl to wake up.

"Good morning, sun." She smiled to the window, "Be there in a second!" It was almost painful how cheerful she began each day. Down the stairs Risika reached the kitchen, a piece of bread popped into the toaster for minutes, patiently Risika awaited it's return. Though prepared, as it sprung from the toaster, Risika still managed to squeak out and back away. Snatched once her fear dimished, she threw on some butter and popped it into her mouth, slamming and locking the door behind herself as she sped off at top speed.

Ally wiped the sweat from her brow. A few loose strand os chesnut curls stuck to her face.

" Well I belive that was the last room." She huffed as she set the broom back in the hall closet. She had spent her entire morning cleaning. Since it was a new year she had decided to start it fresh with a clean slate, that and she had just moved in and she needed to get rid of the dust that still lingered.

The windows were wiped, the floors were swept and mopped, and every last piece of glass, crystal, and silver was polished and gleaming. Ally stood up straight and looked around her home.

"Perfect."

A small 'ding' broke her proud moment and she glided down to the kitchen. As she went down the spiral stairs she looked at her new living room set. Her cream and blue cushions went well with her ivory walls and baby blue drapes. Her mother and her snotty friends would be jealous. A large archway brought her into her larger than life kitchen. A sweet aroma and dancing from her new double oven. Her red velvet cake was done.

She took the two circular pans from the oven and put them on he island so they could cool while she went to bathe. Her shower was quick and she came out smelling like a tropical breeze. Her hair was still soaked she she gave it a quick towel dry, which made her curls even tighter. She went back to her cake and began mixing a creamy frosting. She did her bottom level and then placed her top layer carefully. Once she was down she grattered some white chocolate on the top and finished it up with an innocent smile.

" Happy New Year." Her smile was there but her voice seemed to be void of any emotion. She wrapped her cake and placed it the front basket of her cherry red bike. Then she was off to the town's center.

She rode along the dirt roads. Taking quick shortcuts that she had learned earlier this morning when she wanted to memorize the are more. The trees were wizzing by her and the her hair was blowing freely behind her. Riding up and down the small hills were taking a toll on her legs. A thin sheen of sweat graced her pale forehead.

"I took a shower only to get sweaty again." Her breath was slighlty labored.

Ally was on her way into town so she could see the celebrations for the festivals. She had never been to a festival and she was a little excited. When she saw the town's center approaching she hopped ff her bike and decided to walk the rest of the way. A natural breeze ruffled he white pleated skirt and ended at her knees. Her dusty rose ballet flats crunched against the small pebbles. They matched her long sleeved cotton shirt. Ally was humming as she entered the busy town square.

"Wow. I might not want to leave this place."

He heard the sound of a door unlatching, a nob being turned and the sturdy oak pushed open. Lazily Will shifted his eyes towards the figure, a smudge of black in his peripheral vision. Curious he turned the rest of his head. The figure was ominous, a hulk of black and grey. Ah, so it was this man again. The silent one. In the three seasons that he had been living here in the blue-doored flat he had never seen the man speak once. It was curious for the photographer. Such a bigg’un, he probably didn’t have to say much to get his point across at all.

For Will he saw little intimidation, his brother had brought home friends that size or bigger before. The kind with so many scars you couldn’t even begin to count them all. This was the reason his curiosity quickly beat out any trepidation he had of initiating conversation. He just had to see how this guy sounded. And of course he needed to contact his mum about that key, but that was only extra incentive.

Leaning forward he patted the tyke on the head, moving him up two steps. He re-situated the three juice jugs around Davis as a sort of make-shift barrier before standing up to quickly dust off the back of his jeans. “’scuse me mate!”, he called over to momentarily monopolize the fellow’s attention. Lightheartedly he jogged over the quite slight distance between them. Looking up to the taller man still upon the stoop Faust questioned, “M’ flats all locked up. I don’t suppose you’d have a phone I could borrow?” He clasped his hands flat together mock-praying.

Damn. Silent again, he should have figured. Still he was thankful for the phone and showed it with a wide smile, "You're a life saver." Thoughtlessly he entered a few digits, having a little trouble with the touch screen. It wasn’t his fault, the highest piece of technology he ever had to work with was his print enlarger and that was only mirrors and glass! He couldn’t help but be a little proud when he managed to input the entire number, he was even quickly rewarded by the deep hum of the outgoing ringer.

“Speaking”, came the soft greeting of his mother.
“Marina”, spoke the boy calmly as he tried to hold the phone somewhat close to his ear. He was very careful not to put the delicate glass to his cheek, he’d rather not mess up the screen for the kind fellow.
Without waiting for a reply he sighed half-sarcastically, “You must be positively batty!” This time the woman was louder, he was sure the other could hear her loud voice over the receiver.
“Oh William, my boy! I thought you’d be here by now! The twins are just being little devils without you.”

At this the boy bit his lip hard to quell his frustration, blanching it with the pressure. “Brilliant really, but I Can’t!”
“Can’t! Are you positive?”, came her incredulous reply.
He sighed turning his face to the side, to hide his dismay from the near-stranger in front of him. He lowered his voice a little, “I can’t, you heard me. The door is locked, the key is with you, I have more orange juice than I can carry, my camera is inside. Oh, and I have your toddler. Though he really is being lovely, so that’s not so much an excuse as a statement. I’m positive.”
The woman sighed rather dramatically, “Well have you tried breaking in?”
Will replied with distinct silence before saying, “I’m not climbing the trellis again if that’s what you’re thinking Mum.”
“Alright, alright. Don’t get your panties in a bunch.” The boy’s face flushed a bit at this but he did not respond, rather wishing not to add fuel to the fire. “I’ll send Daphne over." Goodbyes were hurriedly said before he hung up the phone and held it out to the man, his ears still a little red.

Risika-chan 03-03-2010 07:14 AM

Tsunami paced slowly along the road, taking her time to observe and memorize, she'd just moved in days ago. Though the air was chilly, the sun seemed to warm once in its rays, soothing the goosebumps which rose under the shade. Steadily she made her way into town, good time being made even with such a slow pace. It was surprising, she really wasn't that far from the center of the town, it was almost comforting knowing it. As she made her way past homes, she caught a voice.

“M’ flats all locked up. I don’t suppose you’d have a phone I could borrow?”

Tsunami smiled, what a charming voice. Although interested in the speaker, she was sure to stay on the other side of the street, her head turning curiously as she caught the sight of two men standing with eachother, one on the phone while the other patiently waited. She knew well enough it was rude to stare, yet the blue-eyed woman stared boldly as she passed by, the smile still curled upon her lips. He soon finished his call and held out the phone to the owner, who she spent moments studying as well. Quite possibly she'd see them at the celebration this afternoon.

The new-spring chill flashed briefly around him, carrying with it the musty smell of wet leaves underfoot. It chilled his bones through the grey windbreaker and sent a good shiver up his spine. He heard a slight whimper coming from his own stoop, the two-year old had pulled his knees firmly up to his chest for warmth. Without thinking his brother stripped his jacket and stooped down to wrap it around the tiny shoulders. Of course the selfish little part of his brain immediately found fault with this as it suddenly realized it's limited apparel, just a thin short-sleeved t-shirt. Damn, could he really afford to wait a whole half-hour for Daphne to show? As a sudden gust caught his medium black hair he made a firm decision, he was going to have to take it into different hands. Not necessarily his, but hey whatever was successful.

The stranger wasn’t at a very fast pace, it was more than easy for Faust to cover the distance between them. Still he ran, if only to get the warmth of energy back in his cold legs. Recollecting on it he supposed he could have called out to the man, but that roundabout strategy was never his preferred modus operandi. He was as literally as always a hands-on person. So instead of the very logical confrontation upon catching up to him he simply reached out for the back of the silent man's sport coat, giving it a slight tug like a child would. It wasn’t too hard to make this connection either, considering their noticeable height difference. “I’m very sorry, but could you help me out once more neighbor, just this time?”

Now came the actual hard par, proposing the difficult question. The man not answering made it worse, set an ominous tone to the conversation. But really more than that he noticed it was completely bad ass, like talking to an modern movie gangster like in those old films. What he was about to ask would only solidify that image in his mind. “D’you think you could help me…eh…break into my own house?”, said the man.
He rubbed his neck from nerves before turning his head to indicate the little boy,
“Neither of us have much of a jacket or anything and it’ll take sis about thirty minutes to make her way down here…” He trailed off hopeful for a positive response.

Risika-chan 03-04-2010 06:17 AM

Tsunami Iyoki
Delicate lips pursed as Tsunami drew closer into town, passing by pleasant shops closed for the celebration. Shame, she was hoping they'd be open, breakfast sounded good right about now. A fragile, slender hand pressed over her stomach as it rumbled. She forgot dinner the night before was small, she didn't have time for a bigger one. Regret picked at the back of her mind, she'd had so much time before the celebration started, if she had known she'd be hungry, she would've prepared something special, especially since today was Risika's first day in Arlington. A frown slipped across her features as her eyes narrowed to the ground, she looked rather spiteful. Where was the celebration being held anyway? Perhaps she could get there early and help set it up? Slowly down the side walk, Tsunami peered into windows, admiring what sat on display, taking note on which store captured her interest and what she'd visit later. She was excited for the celebration, she was ready to make a friend, meet a neighbor, have some acquaintances, last thing she wanted was for her and Risika to be lonely.

Risika Iyoki
She'd run nearly all the way from home, slowing gradually, panting. She was sure she would've caught up with Tsunami, judging by how slow she walks in comparison to her. The younge woman adjusted herself, her hair a slight mess after running for so long. She'd seen many walking, but many she ignored.
"...Think you... help break... into...house?”
What sounded like mumbles soon grew louder and though unsure of the whole sentence, she'd heard enough words to make her concerned. Moments before closing in, she frantically glanced for a hiding place, spotting two garbage bins, one blue recycle and one grey. Hopefully they hadn't seen her yet, before she dipped behind them, peering past the side every moment. "Theives!" She gasped, her brows knitting as she grit her teeth. Not in her new hometown! She listened to his mumbles from behind the can, perhaps homeless then? Either way, breaking into a house was wrong!

He laughed a bit “Lovely.”
At a medium pace he ambled towards the stoop. Quickly he moved to shuffle the jugs and baby, oversized coat and all, out of the way. He held his hand palm-up towards the door, “Where here it is, but now that were here. I have no idea what to do.” Shifting his weight to one side he partially covered his mouth with a spare hand, deep in contemplation.

“I was thinking breaking the door would be too harsh, maybe something like picking the lock? I don’t have the strength for the former or the skill of the latter.” Not to mention his mother would skin him alive for harming her delicately painted blue door.
He put his hands akimbo, turning to the man with a peerless half-smile. “Well, what do you think?”

kandii_k 03-05-2010 01:31 AM

Ally continued into town and looked around at some things that had been set up already. She realized that she had walked quite a bit and she was beginning to exit the town square but on the opposite side. The breeze was beginning to get to her so she slipped on her white jacket that was hanging off the back of her bike. She walked by a store window and saw her reflection anad she almost scared herself. Her cold icy blu eyes were glaring back at her. She looked so angry, so cold. She took a calming breath and closed her eyes. She tried to put a more happy image in her head and her faux smile began to grace he full lips. When she opened her eyes she looked slightly kinder.

"That's a lot better." When she checked her reflection a few strands were loose in her pony tail she she huffed and undid her hair and shook it out. When she stood straight she saw another person reflected in the window. Ally turned and watched another woman walking across the street. Her bright violet hair whipping around her. Maybe I can give my cake to her. Ally walked across the street and caught up to her in time to hear here stomach growl. She gently tapped the woman on her shoulder and gave a small wave.

"Good Morning."

Risika-chan 03-05-2010 04:32 AM

Tsunami Iyoki
With the flick of her head, Tsunami found herself staring at another indiviual, a friendly smile slipping on her lips. "Good morning." She greeted. Her voice was gentle, like the kiss of a butterfly upon one's skin. It could only wish you the best intentions and the greatest happiness achievable, her tongue seemed twisted with an unobtainable accent, it seemed to sing the song of wonderous riches into one's ear. Her once cold blue eyes softened and warmed, half-lidded as her smile seemed sweeter than buttercream. She was the epitome of gentle although while walking alone, she seemed so cold and vicious. After being on a female gang through her junior high years, it seems to have stuck. Quickly her hand lifted from her stomach, she would've been rather embarrassed if she was aware the stranger noticed her stomach grumble and her state of hunger. Turning to face the stranger, she folded her hands together before her, offering a quick bow as a greeting, often how members of the Iyoki family used to greet eachother, they were part Japanese afterall. "Lovely morning, isn't it?" She began, tilting her head before her eyes lifted to the sky, sparse clouds dancing a ballet about the sun. It indeed was a nice spring day, though a chill seemed to be in the air, the sun warmed your soul instantly after a small breeze. The weather seemed to fuel her good mood also, however she always tried to be in a good mood. No one liked a sour person.

Risika Iyoki
Risika seemed to tremble as she ducked behind the garbage pins, every so often peering past to watch the two men before the town homes. How would she do this? Would she scream for the police and neighbors? Would she throw a shoe at one? Should she find a phone and notify the authorities? Speaking of phones, she left her cellphone at home. How careless! Even after she promised she'd keep it on her at all times. A delicate growl rolled from her throat as she glared. Maybe she could throw garbage at them? But who would want to stick there hand in someone else's trash? Sitting back, she crossed her arms and furrowed her eyebrows, sneering. If only Tsunami were here, then she'd have better chances of bringing justice. She couldn't exactly scream for anyone, what if they carried weapons! Well, at least she could run like the wind. However, though confident in her own speed, men were always faster and stronger than women. A sad fact of life. Silently, she waited an action from the two, peering over every few second, taking much care to be left unseen.

Will’s eyes lit up as he saw the door open with a click. Horridly he went down the stairs to scoop his brother up in his arms, neglecting the rest of the groceries. Hiking the boy up on his hip he opened the door with the other hand as an invitation for the vibrant-eyed man, “You can come in, it’s awfully cold out there I think. “

The man entered anyway keeping the door open for his friend. Re-depositing the boy in a nearby chair he called over his shoulder, “One second let me get my camera, kay?”. As he said this a cat, a real one this time, slunk it’s way down the stairs. It bounded steadily over, very dog-like, but it did not speak one meow. ‘Stranger’ it seemed to say with it’s dark grey ears pointed straight at attention and wide blue eyes fixed completely on the taller man. A few times it open and closed it’s mouth as if uncertain of the new person’s status.

kandii_k 03-05-2010 02:10 PM

"Lovely morning, isn't it?" The stranger smile was almost as bright as sun. Ally couldn't help but think, She is really pretty.

"Yes it is. " Ally chuckled and looked up at the slightly clear blue sky. She rarely got to go outside when she lived with her parents. She almost lips almost turned into a frown when she thought of them but she remembered she had to keep up appearances.

"Listen, I heard to stomach a little while ago," she reached into her bike's front basket. "I have a cake that I baked for today's celebration," Ally nervously head the cake infront of her and bowed slightly. "You can have it if you like." Ally looked into the stranger's eyes and acted as kindly as possible.

"Listen, I heard to stomach a little while ago."

Tsunami blushed violently, the red shade sweeping over her cheeks as her brows furrowed. How embarrassing. Yet all discomforted expressions faded as she watched her bow and offer a cake. How sweet... Her smile returned, the blush still blatantly placed upon her cheeks, yet she looked so sweet. "How very kind of you." She stated, taking the cake with both hands. She'd never been offered a gift of this sort, actually, she'd never been offered a gift from anyone beside Risika. "Thank you so very much, I will enjoy it. What kind is it?" Tsunami wouldn't dare state the truth that she never enjoyed sweets, however Risika would flutter and die over the cake, most likely eating all of it for herself and not gaining a single ounce of weight. How frustrating, if Tsunami ate the way she wanted, she'd gain 20 pounds in a week. "We can still share it at the celebration, I wouldn't dare keep out towns people from such a treat from such a lovely lady. Is that alright?" Tsunami, of course, didn't want to insult her. "My name is Tsunami Iyoki, by the way. I just moved her a few days ago. I'm starting as the Chemistry Professor at the college." She was very keen on introductions, though she despised her surname, she wouldn't be who she was without it. Everytime she gave it out though, she felt shamed.

Risika Iyoki

Risika remained silent as she observed the two picking the lock and breaking into the home, her eyes narrowing, squinting as if she'd burn holes through their backsides. "Not on my watch..." She whispered as she scampered to the door, careful to remain behind Gabriel before he entered the home. Standing to her full height, Risika sucked in a breath, her chest expanding as she prepared to scream the loudest she could. Although groceries sat in plain sight, nothing clicked with the girl. "Help! Police! Help!" Her eyes closed tightly as she screamed to the best of her abilities, her voice echoing down the street as she ripped off her boot and tossed it at Gabriel. "Not today! Homeless thieves!" She had quite the spunk and the gall to act so righteous. Again she sucked in a breath to scream once more to the neighborhood, beckoning the neighbors to leave their homes or to call the authorities.

kandii_k 03-06-2010 12:20 AM

"Hello, I'm Aleece Halls. I just moved here to finisha my last year of highschool." So she was a professor. She didn't really seem like the know it all tutors that Aleece had the displeasure of meeting. Ally couldn't tell a stranger the real reason she was there.
"The cake is a red velvet double layer cake with a nice white butter cream frosting." She could almost feel the pounds being added to her body as she talked about it. When she nice lady had metioned sharing it she couldn't help but decline.
"I'm sorry but my mother would have a stroke if she knew I was eating anything with more that 70 calories. But I would really like you to enjoy it." After all today was a day to be hospitable. That and she was slightly happy at the fact that she got invited to share tonights celebration with someone else.
"And I look foward to spending the day with you Miss Iyoki."

A high pitch scream met his ears quite clearly, stopping him in his tracks as he walked up the stairs. “Shit!” He said as the girl was screaming something preposterous about thieves. Well damn, this plan worked much better the first time. Starting at a run he quickly passed by the girl, gearing up to scream some more and the tall neighbor who was far too busy finding the company of the feline persuasion. His palm smacked the doorframe as he leaned out the door to yell, “False alarm people! I live here, go back to your Saturday breakfast gatherings and whatnot.”. He accompanied this with a ‘shooing’ hand gesture.

Slowly he turned his head towards the girl, fixing her with a curious glower, “You can knock off the bleeding scream you know, I swear on my own life this is the place I shack up.” To prove this point the jogged over to the mantle, carefully snatching a picture frame from it’s esteemed location.

It was true, there was his spitting image, in fact there it was twice. Both of the unsmiling teenagers looked like him, identical. “This is me, eh, on the left I believe. You can tell, I’m slightly shorter.” He tapped the slighter looking twin with his nail before replacing it above the fireplace.

“So now what’s all this ruckus and commotion about, young lady?”, said the man using the authority of all twenty-four years under his belt. “I can’t well blame you for the screaming considering the situation, but boots can be painful. Shouldn’t be thrown lightly y’know. Head trauma, I know a bit about it myself. A nasty little cretin of a condition. One second.” He added a wag of his finger for good measure, in no general direction, as he walked back to the open kitchen. Reaching out his hand he briefly scratched the kitten behind it’s ears before picking up some of the groceries to pack away. “Well I was going to ask you if you’re all right, but I see the ‘gentleman of our household’ has very well beaten me too it. Touché Mars.”
