Cadence stares. "Until they all die." His voice takes on a very cynical tone and he leans even more into the wall.
|
Charmase's smile didn't waver.
"Life never ends, even after death. We are reborn, reshaped...perhaps we are placed into different worlds, different lands...but life never ends." |
"Maybe I should have prayed for death then. It'd be a hell of a lot better than this shit." He stares down at Charmase.
|
Charmase's smile still didn't waver.
"You should stay alive as much as you can. Because you can meet so many people...so many different faces, imprinted in your memory, forever!" He once again raises his arms. "Everyone you meet changes your life. Even if it is only minutely. Every single action will yield a response, or a consequence. Life teaches us so many things, good or bad. Why would you want to leave it so quickly?" |
"Anything's better than the shit I had to deal with before here. That was hell on earth."
(I'm trying so hard to censor Cadence. And I can't. I really can't.) |
"As I said before..." Charmase mumbles, nodding to himself. "Not all experiences in life are pleasant. But we will always learn something from them. Gain some insight."
He raises his arms once more. "Just because something is painful or not enjoyable doesn't mean it wasn't a vital experience to you..." |
Cadence shrugs and mutters almost too low to be heard, "Then what's vital from getting your ass kicked all the time?"
|
Charmase was, amazingly, still smiling.
"There is a reason why everything that has happened to you happened to you in the first place," he replied brightly. "While it may not have been a pleasant experience, you must have gained something of importance from it." |
Cadence stares at him. "I got scars. And fucking night terrors. That's what I got from that fucking experience." His voice is low and bitter.
|
Charmase tilted his head a bit.
"Then you should use...now, where did I put it..." He dug in his small shoulder bag, which he always kept with him. "Ah-ha. Here." He held out what looked like a small, well-made, colorful dream catcher. "It has love woven into the threads," Charmase informed him. "I'm...a little magical, you could say. This will keep your nightmares away. Oooohh..." He smiled a bit more, happily. "That rhymed." |
Cadence just stares at it. "Does it have drugs in it?"
|
"No." Charmase tilted his head, and then raised his arms again.
"It has love woven in every stitch. It keeps the bad things away. Night-time meanies are repelled by the amount of love it radiates." |
Cadence snorts. "There's no such thing as love. It's a sham to get your own way."
|
Charmase shook his head, smiling.
"Oh, but that is not the case. Love...happiness...kindness...these are the only true emotions in this world. Everything else is a desire...a desire that can be good or bad. In the end...love is all you have. Ooohhh..." Charmase giggled softly. "I did it again." |
Cadence rolls his eyes more. "Whatever you say. And desire is fun."
|
Charmase tilted his head, puzzled.
"Desire is not fun. It makes people do not-nice things. And then they end up hurt, or in jail. It makes people steal things..." He...doesn't seem to mention the other kind of desire. It may be that he has no idea what the other kind is... |
Cadence snickers. "Well that's fun too. But that's not what I meant. I meant the other type of desire. Which can be fun."
|
Charmase stared at him, slowly tilting his head.
"There's another type?" His statement sounds painfully honest. |
Cadence shakes his head. "Never mind." He stretches and his back cracks loudly.
|
Charmase's face falls.
"But...I want to know," he declares curiously, tilting his head more. "I had no idea there was another kind. Will you tell me, please?" |
Cadence sighs. "Fine. Don't blame me for breaking your mind. The kind I was talking about was sex."
|
Charmase stared at him for a moment, seemingly puzzled.
"...What's that? I've heard the word thrown around before, but I don't know what it is." He tilted his head in the opposite direction. "Is it a precious jewel? A big bank somewhere holding a lot of money? Something valuable? A sport?" |
Cadence just stares. "I...am not explaining what sex is to you. That's just weird."
|
Charmase blinked.
"But then how will I find out what it is?" He sounded a little sad that he couldn't figure out what it is. |
Cadence rubs his temples. "Sex is how babies are made." He smirks a bit at that.
