Hello there and welcome to Menewsha!! I'm Love, or Hope (whichever you prefer). I'm a night owl as well. Which my fiancee doesn't like but he's not here to help me sleep, so oh, well. What do you want us to call you, dear? |
Thanks Azshare, Your dress is really pretty.
Hi Hope. Im always up at night, just cant help it hehe, You can just call me Chibi. Congratulations on being engaged ^^ |
Hi there Chibi. :) And yeah, same here! Horrible case of insomnia over here, so glad that my courses are all in the afternoons. Roomie thinks I am bonkers for sleeping 'so much' but I just go to bed way later than her. :P Or earlier, depending on how you look at it. And thanks dear! |
What are you going to school for? Yeah, even if i have been up all day i cant manage to sleep at night, so i just sorta, sleep when i can.
|
Deaf Studies is my major. And yeah, I'm somewhat the same way, I do need a bit of sleep, so I just catch cat naps whenever I can, setting alarms to wake me up so I don't sleep through my courses. |
What is Deaf studies?
|
Well, it's theory and background on the Deaf community and learning sign language, I would give you the description from my college page, but I can't seem to find it right now xD Nevermind! Found it! Deaf Studies Program Our program teaches the knowledge and skills of American Sign Language, Deaf culture and history, Deaf education and the interpreting profession. The Deaf Studies curriculum provides students with the knowledge and skills of American Sign Language (ASL). It also focuses on the uniqueness of ASL as a language and on the the Deaf culture; on the history of the Deaf Community; on Deaf educational practices and on the Interpreting profession. The curriculum is designed to assist students in determining which area of Deaf Studies to enter or to aide them in the area they are currently pursuing. Deaf Studies courses and American Sign Language can be used to: * meet personal needs in communicating with deaf people * learn about the social, historical, educational and cultural aspects of the Deaf * prepare to enter the field of Deaf education * provide added skills in the fields of counseling, psychology, speech therapy, audiology, nursing, business and education * assist law enforcement officers, fire fighters and emergency medical technicians and satisfies the bilingual requirement * meet the foreign language requirement at most high schools and colleges, including the CSU and UC systems * meet the learning style of visual/ tactile learners, who may more easily grasp the American Sign Language concepts * prepare for an interpreter training program * meet the Humanities General Education requirement for a Bachelor’s degree in the CSU and UC systems * transfer to a BA program in Deaf Studies The Deaf Studies Program at Sierra College offers a full range of courses, from beginning to advanced. Students with no knowledge or skill in sign language can enroll in beginning ASL / DFST 1. Our goal is to provide quality instruction for students taking ASL as a foreign language and students seeking careers in Deaf Education, Interpreting, Counseling, Audiology and Speech Therapy. The Deaf Studies curriculum provides students with the foundation needed to continue their education at a higher-level institution. |
Hello Chibi welcome to menewsha! |
whats are you going to do with that when you get out of college?
do you know some one that is deaf? ---------- Hello Lady kai, Thank you =) |
Oh, I want to be an interpreter. :) And nope. I just love it, and it's something that totally interests me. And drives me Love insane. Hehe! |
heheh thats really cool :)
I couldnt handle being Deaf, I love music so much. |
Oh, they can hear music, just not as we hear it. |
How?
|
More through the vibrations. It's hard to explain. |
So they can feel it, not hear it? hehe
|
Yeah, but it all depends on the music of course. :) |
*nods* when i was in school i had a friend that was deaf, I started to learn sign language so i could talk to her. but i dont remember any of it any more.
|
Awe! Yeah, it's definately one of those things that if you stop using it you'll forget it. I will just randomly start signing when I'm confused about something. xD Drives most of my family bonkers. |
hehe thats like my grandmothee, she would start babbling in french xD lol
|
 Yeah, it's like... "Um, yeah... Love, we don't understand what you're sayin'..." Which makes me respond in sign yet again. Because I'm evil like that. :P It's fun to do, they try to guess what I'm trying to say. Never works. |
What does Holding your fingers open and touching your thumb to your forehead mean?
|
