"A tarp," Glory repeated, thinking. "I think I have one stashed in the basement somewhere, let me go and find it. If you come up with any better ideas, let me know."
"Sure. I'll wait here." Viktor leaned against the truck, deciding not to disturb Léan in the shallows. He looked like he'd just dozed off.
Going inside, Glory hunted around the basement for the tarp. She knew she had one... She grinned when she saw it folded up on top of some boxes and grabbed it.
"Found it," she said as she got back out to the beach. |
Viktor nodded, then dropped the door on the bed of his truck and hopped up, steadying himself behind the tank. "Stand back a little and hold the tarp out. He'll come out quickly, and flailing."
Glory nodded and got ready to catch the shark.
Viktor slid behind the tank and wrapped one arm around the side of it. Since the tank was heavy, it was a great show of his strength when he was able to heave it up and forward a bit. Water flooded out from the tank, and the shark panicked, thrashing around as it flopped out of the tank and onto the tarp.
Glory caught the shark, though a little awkwardly, and petted it gently.
"It's alright," she said soothingly as she slipped it into the water as gently as she could, considering it was still thrashing around. |
Viktor finished draining the tank, since they were so close to the water, and then set it back upright once it was empty. "Ah...that's better," he muttered, watching the shark swim around, shocked by the chilly water, and tried to get its bearings. "We should get some real sand in here..."
"We're standing on a beach," Glory pointed out dryly, keeping an eye on the shark. The water was darker here than it was used to, and she didn't want it wandering off. "Take as much as you like."
Viktor grumbled, since he didn't particularly want to do this alone. He scooped up wet sand instead of dry sand, since it held better, and piled it into the tank. Once there was enough in to constitute a suitable bottom, he shook the tank so it would settle down to the bottom and sighed. "Fresh water will do to fill it, so we can take it in, now, and you can fill it later."
"Thanks for your help," Glory said as she went to open the doors as much as they could go. Then she helped Viktor get the tank into the living room, in the only availible corner.
"Not a problem, not a problem..." Viktor set the tank down slowly, then clapped his hands together just once. "Is it all right where it is, for now? If you need to move it again, just give me a call. You going to start working again, now that we're back?"
"I'm not about to just abandon my job," Glory pointed out. "I rather like making money. It pays for my car's gas and other such things."
"True, true. Well...I'd better get going. I'll see you later," Viktor hummed, as he headed out the door. He had to get home and greet his parents, who weren't in a good mood, judging by the phone conversation he'd had with them once he'd disembarked the plane.
"Alright, I'll see you later," Glory replied. Once he was pulling out, she went back out to the beach.
Léan had been pulled from his dozing by the sound of Viktor's truck and was now resting comfortably in the shallows. Archie was afraid of humans, so he didn't worry about him being near, at least for the next hour or so.
Settling herself on her favorite rock, Glory sighed.
"It feels good to be home," she said. "I think I even missed my long jeans." |
"I'm not sure if I missed Arcturus or not. It was quiet without him," Léan hummed, teasingly. Of course he'd missed his brother. He'd been very worried about him, as well.
"Ah, you know you missed him," Glory teased gently. "You were worried about him the entire time we were gone."
"But it was quiet," Léan repeated, amused. "Ah, well. It was a little too quiet." He stretched his tail and arms out in the water, letting loose a long, loud yawn.
"Well, you'll probably having him bothering you the entire time I'm at work, so it won't be too quiet anymore," Glory said as she watched him stretch out.
Léan grumbled. "Gah...he is a complete pain in the neck..." he complained, contemplating a way to keep Archie amused while the two of them were alone.
"He'll probably be fascinated with the shark," Glory pointed out. She grinned. "Now get over here so I can kiss you again."
"He is afraid of sharks," Léan chuckled, as he made his way up onto the rocks. "But, he will get used to it." It was slow work, since he had no legs, but he had pulled himself up next to her in a minute or so.
"I'm a bit demanding, I hope you've noticed that," Glory murmured as she kissed him.
