"No, no..." Léan muttered, almost too quickly. "I always have issues sleeping--it is not a big deal." He seemed to be telling the truth.
"You seemed to be sleeping just fine a little while ago," Glory pointed out reasonably. "I don't mind going back inside if you want to sleep some more. I'm sure I have a book somewhere that can keep me occupied."
"I...I'll be fine," Léan muttered, shifting a bit. For some reason, he looked like he just couldn't get comfortable. And he couldn't--it was true. He'd tried sleeping on the rocks, in his cave, out in deeper water, on the beach...the shallows weren't even all that comfortable for him right now--he'd just passed out there.
"Are you sure?" Glory asked, concerned. "I'll llet you sleep if you want me to... It's no big deal, really."
Léan nodded once more, confidently. "I will be fine. I assure you." He seemed a bit more awake, but the fact that he hadn't gotten a lot of sleep still showed through.
"Alright..." Glory replied, a bit doubtful. Then she grinned, splashing some water at him. "I reserve the right to be amused if you fall asleep on me, alright?" she teased.
Léan grunted, not bothering to dodge the water. "You'll likely splash me awake, anyway," he replied wryly. "So it is not bothersome to me."
Glory giggled.
"I could see if I can find that seaweed from yesterday to throw at you again," she suggested playfully. "That would keep you awake, right?" |
Léan grumbled some more. "I would end up hiding it somewhere. I'm not in a good state to be moving around too much," he reminded her, speaking of his fatigue.
"I offered to let you sleep more and you refused," Glory pointed out. "Now I'm offering to keep you awake, and you won't let me. Make up your mind already."
Léan frowned. "I want to stay awake," he informed her. "I just feel so lazy today...if possible, I'd like to do something that requires little movement..."
---------- ((I have to go eat--I will be back.)) ---------- ((I'm back. ^^)) |
"Well..." Glory said thoughtfully, "Nana asked me to run out to the store to pick up a few things. It shouldn't take me long, and you can keep on being lazy until I get back."
Léan nodded. "All right. Fair enough. That will give me time to get a bit of rest..." He seemed tired, but he hadn't wanted to sleep while she was there and willing to speak to and spend time with him.
Glory grinned, standing up.
"I shouldn't be long," she said. "The worst that can happen is I get a bit lost on my way there, and honestly, it's hard to get lost in a town this small." Grinning again, she made her way inside to put on some proper clothes before grabbing her keys and heading out to her car. Getting into the driver's side, she marvelled briefly over the fact that it had been three whole days since she'd needed to go anywhere. Shrugging, she turned the key and made her way into the more populated area of town, looking for the grocery store. |
Léan watched her leave, almost remorsefully. He hadn't wanted her to, but he did need to get some more sleep. So, he relaxed, curled up, and closed his eyes. Despite his not being able to get comfortable before, he was out in a matter of minutes.
Glory wandered around the grocery store, trying to figure out where everything was. As she found things, she added them to her basket, and was pleasantly surprised to find fresh tuna in the seafood section. Absently, she picked through it, looking for the good sushi-grade fish. Once she found it, she added it to her basket and turned to head to the front. She didn't get very far, though, because she nearly ran into someone.
"Sorry," she automatically. |
The aforementioned 'someone' blinked, puzzled by the sudden near-collision.
http://i371.photobucket.com/albums/o...g?t=1271553243 "Oh...it's okay," she assured her politely, smiling. |
"I totally didn't mean to run into you," Glory said. "I guess I'm a bit distracted."
The girl chuckled--it was a pleasant sound--and extended her free hand. The other was holding onto a basket.
"My name is Selena. What's yours?" |
"Gloriana," Glory replied, shaking her hand. "People call me Glory."
Her attention immediately sharpened when the girl had said her name was Selena. Now, what were the chances...? It was an uncommon enough name, although her own name was even more rare, but how many other Selenas could there be in such a little town? |
"It's nice to meet you, Glory," Selena greeted, grinning. "You look kind of lost in here...first time here, maybe?" She didn't seem nasty...
"Is it that obvious?" Glory asked, a little embarassed. "My grandmother and I just moved into town, so I'm still a bit... turned around."
"It kinda is...not many people move here, so trust me--I can tell when someone's new," she clarified, nodding. "Well...I hope you like it here! Do you need a tour or anything? I can help you out if you do. Also, will you be attending the school here when it starts? Because I will. I could help you around there, too."
"Well," Glory said, "in the order of your questions: I think I'll be alright, and yes, I'll be going to school in the fall." Chatty one, wasn't she? Glory's mind was reeling just listening to her. Glory wasn't even all that quiet herself, but Selena was definitely making her feel like a hermit crab curled in its shell. She grinned to herself when she realized what kind of comparison she'd made without realizing it. Seems being on the beach so much was rubbing off.
Selena nodded, smiling. "Great! I can give you a tour. Here..." She dug in her pocket, and unearthed what looked like...a business card, or something. It looked like a photocopied version of a complicated school ID, photo and all. "This is all I have with me right now, but it has my phone number and homeroom for school on it. You should check your mail--you should be getting something like it, soon. I'd suggest making copies of it, in case you lose it. The school won't give you another one, should you lose it."
