Selena snorted, irritated.
I just told you. I don't deal with freaks. I hate freaks. Why in the hell would I want to continue something with that...that thing! It had a fucking tail! Of course I cut it off! |
Glory rolls her eyes. Really, now...
Then it's a pity he, Glory underlined the gender marker, really had his heart set on you. You're shallower than a puddle on a hot day. If I were you, I wouldn't come down to our stretch of beach. Fyi. |
Selena also rolled her eyes.
I'll go wherever I want to. If it were up to me, I'd have someone exterminate those monsters! |
Glory's eyebrows went up at that. All that statement brought to mind was a memory of an old cartoon where a robot was saying "Exterminate and destroy..." Biting down a laugh, she wrote a reply.
Well, 'monster' is such a subjective word... After all, I've only met one monster in this town, and she doesn't have a tail. |
Selena sneered. Her innocent looks often got her out of a lot of trouble, and she was indeed a bitch deep down, when she wanted to be...
Say what you want. I'm human. I'm not some animal; some...freak! I hope you drown... |
I'd watch what you say, Glory warned, trying to convey an almost sing-song tone, because your karma is already going to bite you in the ass. Now it's just a matter of how hard. Once she passed the note over, she turned back to the front of the room, clearly indicating that the conversation was over. She was sure that Selena would try to make life hard, and she was ready. She could give just as good as she got, and who would believe that the new girl would cause trouble so soon?
|
Selena rolled her eyes, as if to say 'Bring it on,' and also turned to pay attention to the teacher. She already looked like she was plotting...
|
Glory was a bit wary for the rest of the day, although she didn't think Selena would try anything so soon. Shallow as she was, it would take her a little while to think of something to try to do. Glory would just have to be careful, and probably make friends with some of the more unpopular people. She was fairly sure that Selena wouldn't bother with them in her 'revenge'.
At the end of the day, Glory got to her car and sighed a bit in relief. Nothing had been done to her car yet. She made a mental note to upgrade her security alarm and perhaps even booby-trap the doors as she got in and made her way back home. She visibly relaxed as she pulled into her driveway, and was taking off her shoes and overshirt even as she walked out to the beach. The day had warmed up, and she wasn't worried about getting cold until the sun started to set again. "I'm home!" she called. |
Léan was awake, and was munching on a small tuna he'd caught earlier. He perked up, tail swishing back and forth. "Welcome home...how was your day? Was there any trouble?"
|
"I think this year is going to be interesting," Glory replied as she sat down on the rocks. "Though you could have mentioned that she's so shallow that a puddle of her wouldn't get my feet wet," she teased. "She's pissed. It only took one hint for her to realize that someone else knows what's going on, and I think she has it in for me now." Here, she grinned. "I'm looking forward to it. I reduced a girl to tears in my old school with a few scathing comments. If she tries to make trouble, I'll send her to the school counselor."
|
Léan frowned, but nodded. "All right...just...don't get yourself hurt. I of all people know how she is...she can get very violent...and nasty...and...everything." He looked concerned for Glory's well-being.
|
"I can take care of myself," Glory reassured him. "And if nothing else, I still have the contact information of the judge who took care of my case before, so if it comes to that..." Standing up, she took her hair out of its bun and slipped out of her jeans. Without another thought, she jumped down into the water next to him.
|
Léan jumped, then smiled. "All right...if you say so. I'm just concerned." He frowned out at the sea. "Where are they...?"
|
Glory looked out over the water as well, only just noticing the lack of Archie and Damon.
"Where did they disappear to earlier?" she asked. "They probably found a place to cuddle." |
"They've been gone all day..." Léan clarified, worriedly. "They said they were going out to get food...and they haven't come back yet..."
|
"Then go look for them," Glory suggested, clearly able to see how worried he was. "I'm not exactly of much help there, though. I won't mind if you go and look for them, though. I'll get some homework done or something."
|
Léan bit his lip, then sighed and nodded glumly. "All right...fair enough...if I am not back in the span of five hours, steel for the worst...that will mean something has happened..."
With that, he turned and scooted out of the shallows, disappearing into deeper water... |
Glory watched him go and climbed out of the water again, up onto the rocks. Gathering her things, she headed into the house to change and start on her homework. She made sure to keep an eye on the time, occasionally glancing out the window to keep watch for when he got back.
|
About three hours passed. Then, on the horizon, three shapes could be seen making their way back to shore. One of them was a little slower than the rest...
|
Glory happened to be looking out the window when she noticed the three figures getting closer to shore. Getting up, she headed out to the beach and waited for them on the rocks. She hoped that nothing was wrong...
|
((I'll be back--must eat supper.))
Léan was the first to make it to shore, followed by a disgruntled-looking Archie--Damon was the last to make it to shore, looking tired. Léan nodded at Damon, and he quickly fled under the rocks. Léan was grumbling, of course. "I am not explaining to her, if she asks...that's your job," he muttered to Archie. Archie coughed, scratching his head sheepishly. |
Glory sat under the rocks, waiting for them. Léan looked annoyed, and Glory took her cue from that.
"Do I even want to know?" she asked as Damon disappeared under the rocks. |
Seeing that his brother most definitely wasn't going to respond, Archie went pink and scratched the back of his head. "Well, um...you see...maybe...I..." He cleared his throat. "We, um...mermen...don't necessarily need mermaids..." he mumbled, hoping she might get some clues from that.
|
Glory blinked, not quite understanding at first. Something was refusing to make sense in her mind. Then it clicked.
"Um... Okay. Not even going to ask. There are some things I just don't need to know," she said. |
Archie grinned a bit, scratching his head. "Um. Well...yeah. You probably don't wanna know..."
