Léan sighed, lowering his eyes. He shrugged, losing his confidence. "What do I do?"
Léan's indecision seemed like a weakness to Aster, who was idly wondering if he really was asserting himself as alpha of the area. He was far too young, in his opinion, to be an effective alpha. |
"You're the one who wanted to come out this way, and you're asking me what to do?" Glory asked softly. "You know I don't know what I'm doing..."
Léan lowered his eyes. He had a feeling he wasn't cut out to be a proper alpha, either. But he didn't know who else would be willing to take the reins. Archie was even worse than he was. He glanced at her, then murmured, "Should we let him stay...?"
"It's up to you," Glory replied. She wasn't sure why he was suddenly so hesitant, but she would support him if he needed it.
Léan hated having things up to him. He frowned, and then sighed, glancing at Aster. "You can stay. But you realize that means you're the bottom rung of the group? Don't do anything unless you get permission from someone else..."
Aster made a face. He liked being in charge. "Fine." |
Glory could live with that. She gently squeezed Léan's hand.
"Come on," she said softly. "Let's go find somewhere to relax for a while." |
Léan nodded, and glanced around the area. This part of the territory wasn't as hospitable as the reef was--it was all rocky, and there were urchins and bottomfeeders everywhere.
Aster decided to head back towards the main area of their territory, to get to know the others living here. |
Glory followed Léan once he started off. She just wanted to relax a little with him and not think about anything for a while.
Léan seemed happy to oblige, and quickly led them off to a secluded area nearby. There wasn't any coral or seaweed, but it was quiet.
As long as it was quiet, Glory was happy. She settled down with him and cuddled close, just wanting the contact.
Léan curled up close with her, staring off into the distance. Being nomadic for so many years was taking its toll on him. He hated staying in one place for too long, and he wanted to travel. But he was not willing to leave her in order to do so.
Glory watched him. It wasn't hard to guess that he didn't like staying in one place, and she knew she was the one keeping him here.
"You want to be moving again, I guess..." she said softly."You can, you know... I'll be here waiting for you when you get back. I mean, I'm not exactly fit to travel..." She rubbed her stomach gently. |
Léan lowered his eyes. "...I...don't think I'd be comfortable leaving you here alone. Not in your current state..."
Not in any state, actually. But he didn't want to say that--it sounded a tad creepy and stalker-ish. "Perhaps at a later time..." |
"But you're not happy here," Glory pointed out. She was still kind of glad he'd refused, though. She didn't want him to leave.
"I'm fine," Léan assured her, firmly. "I'm simply far too used to being nomadic. The Mediterranean is very nice around this time of year..."
His voice trailed off. |
It was tempting, but Glory still wasn't sure if was a good idea for her to go too far from home. A month ago, she wouldn't have thought twice about suggesting they go, but now they had the twins to think about, too. She snuggled close to him.
"We should go, sometime," she said softly, regardless. She just hoped that it would be after the twins were born. |
Léan nodded, slowly. "I suppose we could all go...you and I, my brother, Damon, Eden, perhaps your parents, and Lleu and Morty...if we all went, we would have to bring the newcomer along. I would not trust him here alone with your grandmother."
"We would have to keep an eye on him," Glory said. "I'm still not completely sure yet that we can trust him." It was a bit unlike her, but she wasn't really into taking the chance.
Léan seemed to have the same problems. As long as Aster kept his distance, it wouldn't be a problem if he had some issues...but if he intended on getting to know everyone closely...then there might be an issue.
"We'll have to see what happens," Glory said softly. She cuddled close to him.
Léan curled up closer to her, as well. He seemed happy to just cuddle with her, for now...but he was thinking of things they could possibly do that wouldn't be hard on Glory in her current state.
Glory rested her head on his shoulder. She was content to cuddle with him for now. She'd been thinking a bit about how they would need to talk about names eventually, but for now, she was happy just to snuggle.
Léan was still not thrilled about the whole idea of children. Until he was assured that he had good parenting skills, he wouldn't even begin to think about names, or anything of the like...it was sad, but it was how he had always been.
Glory stayed snuggled next to him, one hand on her stomach. She couldn't help but notice that her stomach was starting to get in the way a bit... She was pulled from her thoughts when she felt something under her hand. The slight fluttering became more insistent, and it took her a moment to figure out what it was. When she figured it out, she relaxed again.
Léan, who was being quite careful not to touch her stomach unless he absolutely had to, did not take notice. He was being a bitter old bastard about the children right now...once he was better, he would cool off and start being much more proactive. He rested his head on her shoulder.
