"I...can't promise you that..." Archie already seemed to be restraining his voice. He didn't want to scare the children, but he couldn't help it.
"You have to stay quiet if you want to see them," Glory said. "Otherwise, we'll taken them back inside." She held Orion close to her, trying to make sure he stayed calm and quiet.
"I'll try, but I can't promise anything..." Archie rephrased, chewing on his lip slightly. He looked like a child being scolded for something he was embarrassed about.
Glory figured that was about as good as it would get. Moving over to the rocks, she sat down carefully on the nearest one and held Orion so he could see him.
Archie's tail, if possible, moved even more quickly. He went off into a thankfully quiet series of fusses and coos. When it came to children, Archie loved them. The complete opposite of his twin.
"Orion is only one of them," Glory reminded. "Your brother is holding Autumn."
"I have a feeling he's not going to get very close to me, though." A mischievous grin spread across his features. He knew that Léan didn't want to be clung to or hugged.
"With good reason," Glory pointed out. "You have a really bad habit of jumping on people."
Archie huffed, folding his arms across his chest. "I can't help that I get a little overexcited sometimes!" he whined, pouting.
"Well, he's the one holding Autumn," Glory said. "I can't hold both of the children at once, at least not all that easily."
Léan shuffled his feet around semi-anxiously. "...We could switch quickly," he offered, as a compromise. "Switch twins..." That way, he wouldn't have to get near the hugging death-trap and said death-trap could see Autumn.
The suggestion surprised Glory a bit, but she nodded.
"Alright," she said, getting up. She went over to him to hand him Orion and take Autumn. |
Orion seemed to have some gnarly sense when it came to Léan. The moment he was in Léan's arms, he started to complain and kick his legs around. Léan, who looked like a deer in headlights, simply stood there and tried to restrain his legs.
"Rock him a little," Glory said to him. "Try to calm him down." She held Autumn close. Autumn herself was perfectly happy to have a turn being held by her mother.
Léan stared at her like she'd just started speaking in Pig Latin. He awkwardly rocked Orion around a bit. His efforts were pathetic at best simply because he had no instinctual reactions to anything children seemed to do.
Orion shut up, but he had a sour look on his face. |
Glory rolled her eyes a little and gave him a kiss.
"Good enough," she said. "See, you're getting the hang of it." |
"I feel like an imbecile," Léan retorted idly. And he did...he knew little to nothing about children and how to deal with them. His father's way of dealing with he and his brother was to leave the house, harm them, or lock them up in the closet.
Archie was craning his neck to get a glimpse of Autumn. |
"That's just because you have no experience being a father," Glory pointed out as she sat back down on the rock. "You'll learn."
Léan shrugged. He stood there rather awkwardly...though, he seemed mildly amused and disturbed by the vicious glaring he was receiving from Orion, still.
Archie treated Autumn with the same forcibly quiet fussing as he did Orion. |
Autumn looked at him, a bit curious. Glory held her so that she could see, but was still secure. Autumn definitely had a better attitude than her brother did.
Archie seemed to be restraining every part of him...except for his tail. His tail was swishing back and forth rather rapidly, like the tail of an excited little puppy.
"There," Glory said. "Now you've seen them, and I'm sure you're going to go babble to Damon for a while."
"Unless you want me to stay," Archie replied, frowning a bit. "Damon's in a bad mood today and all he and Eden want to do is rest. So I'm all alone."
"Damon's in a bad mood?" Glory repeated. It seemed strange, somehow. "How did you manage that one?" Getting up, she went and gave Autumn back to Léan, taking Orion again. "You, be nice to your father," she murmured to Orion.
"He hasn't been getting a lot of sleep lately. I think it's called insomnia? He struggled with it when he was younger and now it's coming back..." Archie admitted, lowering his eyes.
Orion pouted up at her, letting loose a fierce whine. |
