"Mm." For a moment, Viktor said nothing more, apparently responding to a long text. When he finished it, he briefly glanced over to her. "He's a bouncer. He works at a club down the street from the restaurant...comes in sometimes to get something to eat. Guy's a hulking monster--he's almost a foot taller than me."
"Have I seen him around before?" Glory asked. "What does he look like?" Of course, she already knew, but at least this way she could ask more questions without being questioned herself, and she could pass it off as having chatted with Selena for a little while.
"He hasn't come to the restaurant for the past few days--too busy with work. And he's graduated already, so he doesn't come here unless it's to pick me up when my car's having issues--he's twenty-four," Viktor replied, easily. "Tall redhead. Pale skin. Lots of tattoos."
"Into the older ones, hm?" Glory teased gently. Of course, not that she was one to talk... She pushed back a blush when Léan popped into her head. No need to have Viktor asking questions she couldn't answer...
Viktor couldn't help grinning as he continued to text. "Mm...maybe I am." He paused for a moment, then started texting again. So far, he's seemed to be completely oblivious to Selena's odd behavior. In fact, he seemed more relieved than anything that she wasn't hanging off of him.
"Selena is upset, you know," Glory commented as she started to smooth the rough edges of her jewelry box. It was almost done, she just needed to stain it and put on the hinge and the clasp. "I figure it's not my business to pry, but she and I came to a kind of a truce."
Viktor clearly resisted the urge to roll his eyes. "I reaaallly have no interest in her, romantically...maybe as a friend, but really nothing more than that. I don't know what gave her the idea that I was..." He shrugged. "I've never told her to her face. I can't stand seeing girls cry."
"I don't know," Glory said, although inwardly she was starting to wonder. One of them was lying, if their stories were so different, but she wasn't sure which one. "Maybe you should talk to her and set everything straight?"
Viktor grumbled a bit, too caught up in his texting to care. "Lemme guess. She probably told you we had something?" he muttered. "I've hugged her in the past and took her on trips with me, along with a bunch of friends. She probably got the wrong idea. Again, I don't really have the heart to tell her. She probably won't be herself again until she finds someone else..."
"I never said that she said something to me about it," Glory said. "Until yesterday, we hated one another, remember?"
"Yeah, I know. I texted her before school ended yesterday to ask her if she needed a ride. She said she didn't...that she was getting a ride from you." Viktor paused and grinned at a picture Curry had sent him, and hid the phone so no one else could see it. "...Heh."
Glory raised an eyebrow when he grinned at his phone. She couldn't help being a curious person by nature, and she kind of wanted to know what he was texting the other guy about. At the same time, she didn't, because there are some things best not asked about.
"So is he really just a friend, or something more?" she finally asked, after wrestling with herself over the question for a moment. She had no problems with it if he was dating the other guy, but she didn't want to just believe the rumor. |
Viktor paused. "...Ehhh...I guess you could say he's a little bit more than a friend," he offered, finally. "I'm a fan of open relationships, so we're not 'dating,' per se...dating is for closed relationships."
"Ah, a 'try-anything-once' kind of thing, hm?" Glory mused. "That's cool. It must be nice to be so casual with someone. I don't think I could ever have an open relationship. I don't think I'd be secure enough."
Viktor hummed for a moment, tilting his head. "All it requires is some semblance of trust. And I trust him. And if he betrays that trust, he's going down. That's all." He seemed so chipper about it.
Glory shook her head.
"I couldn't do it," she reiterated. "It's just too abstract. Not enough structure or support." She shrugged. "Everyone is different, I suppose." |
"I guess so, yeah..." For a moment, he just texted in silence. "You single? I haven't seen you with anyone, or even eye anyone up, here..."
((I'll be back--must eat.)) |
"Not really, I guess?" Glory replied, trying to find the right words. There were some places where words just failed. "It's extraordinarily complicated."
Viktor wrinkled his nose and waved her off. "I'm not good with complicated relationship...things. Let's just leave it at that." He grinned, stretching a bit. "Man, am I hungry..."
"For right now, I'm okay with complicated," Glory replied. Because that was all she could do until she and Léan got things figured out. Until then, things would just be 'complicated.'
"Good for you." The bell rang quite suddenly, startling him out of his seat. He shoved his phone in his pocket. "I'll see you later, then..."
Glory nodded and put her things away. The rest of her day was fairly quiet, even lunch. Not that that was a bad thing, really. When the final bell rang for the day, she made her way out to her car. Somehow, she just wanted the familiar feel of the wheel in her hands. A little driving would do her good, and the company would be nice.
Selena was waiting out by her car, looking a little cold because she only had a light coat on. She had her eyes closed and was humming to herself, quietly. She didn't have her friends around her...
"Hey," Glory greeted when she saw Selena. Unlocking the car, she immediately started it up and turned on the heater. "I don't know why it's so bizarrely cold today... It's barely the beginning of September."
"Mother Nature is going through menopause?" Selena suggested, huddling up in the passenger seat. "I wish it wouldn't be so cold...I prefer warm weather. It's so much nicer..."
