"Oh there were a pair of little snakes I worked with that I liked well enough," Glory said, setting her own empty plate down. "They liked wrapping around my elbow, because it was warm."
Selena nodded, yawning slightly. "I probably should have told my mother I wasn't going to be home tonight, but she probably won't care...I was over at a friend's house last month for three days without and when I came home, she didn't even say anything to me."
"You can call, if you like," Glory said, standing up. "Let me go and grab you a pillow and some blankets. Just so you know, my room is down the hall if you need anything. First door on the right."
"No, she won't worry..." Selena assured her. "And all right--I'll make sure to remember that." She looked tired.
Grabbing a pillow and a pair of blankets, Glory went back out to the living room.
"You look like you're about ready to crash," she said, setting the bedding down on the couch. "You can go on to sleep, if you like. I may head outside for a little bit, but I'll make sure to be quiet when I come back in." |
Selena sighed, arranging the bedding to her liking. "I didn't mean to crash on you--I've just had another hard day. It's okay if you wake me up coming back in--it's your house."
Nonetheless, she settled down comfortably onto the couch. |
"It's fine," Glory replied. "I like sleep as much as the next person, so I'll try not to wake you on my way back in."
"Thank you..." Selena curled up, eyes closing. She seemed rather peaceful...it was a strange look for her, considering how she had been for the past two days.
Quietly, Glory made her way outside, grabbing a jacket as she went. She wished it was warm enough to go without her shoes on, since she liked the feel of the sand under her feet, but it wasn't. The beach was peaceful, and Glory settled herself on her favorite rock, looking out over the water.
Léan yawned, softly. He had made his way back to the shallows already and was working on making a bracelet out of some pretty blue stones. There was an eerie calm over him, considering he knew Selena was near.
Glory saw the ripple in the water but didn't say anything. If he felt like going to sleep, she wasn't going to interrupt him. It was a quiet evening, and the sound of the waves was soothing.
Léan didn't notice her at first, but then he looked up from his work. "You're back out? How is everything going?" Something seemed...off. He was too calm...
"Everything's alright," Glory replied. "I wanted to come back outside, though. It's nice and quiet, and I don't need to tiptoe around delicate subjects if I'm sitting out here." Glory leaned back on her hands and sighed. "It must be nice, having this kind of peace and quiet every night."
Léan shrugged. "Eh...it gets kind of boring sometimes..." he mumbled, fiddling with the bracelet he was working on. "Sometimes peace and quiet...becomes too quiet. Far too quiet." He looked solemn.
"Too quiet?" Glory asks. "Maybe I enjoy it more because I spend all day trapped with gossips and stoners."
Léan hummed softly, stopping his work on his bracelet and just staring at the tiny ripples in the water in front of him. Something was weighing on his mind.
Glory noticed how quiet he was being, moreso than he normally was.
"Are you alright?" she asked softly. "I can tell something is bothering you..." |
Léan glanced up at her. "...Well...I had free time, so I went to visit my mother's grave," he murmured. Léan's mother, according to both him and Archie, had been the most important person in Léan's life before she died. He adored her and missed her terribly.
"Oh..."Glory murmured. She didn't know what to say to that. She knew he must miss his mother terribly, and she figured that the closest she would ever come to knowing how he felt would be if she lost Nana.
Léan simply nodded, slowly, looking down. "...I miss her, of course...but she wouldn't want me to be upset." Firmly, he started to work on the bracelet again.
Archie had also said that his and Léan's mother had been murdered by humans... |
"You know... I'll go inside if you want to be alone," Glory offered. She wouldn't necessarily like it, but she would do it for him.
At the mention of being alone again, Léan immediately shook his head. "No, no...I would be worse off alone. Too many thoughts running through my mind, and..." His voice trailed off.
"Are you sure?" Glory asked. He looked so down... Slipping her shoes off, she rolled up the bottoms of her pants and put her feet into the water. "God that's cold..."
"I'm sure..." Léan looked off into the distance, absently. "If I were alone, I would be so much worse. The quiet gets to me when I'm thinking about my mother...she would always feel the need to fill quiet spells with soft humming..."
"Alright," Glory replied, wiggling her toes to make sure she could still feel them. Curious, she looked at the thing in his hand. "What are you working on?"
