"You would indeed be right." There was an oddly strained tone to Léan's voice as he looked around, and then hopped up out of the water. "Suddenly, the waters do not feel so safe anymore."
"You'll have to explain this one to me," Glory said, moving over so he could sit next to her. "I'd really like to know what's going on." Then again, she had a pretty good idea already. She just wanted confirmation.
"Dark green is a very rare scale color. Myself, I have only ever seen it once in my life. My father," Léan murmured, eyes scanning the expanse of the water.
"That's what I thought you would say," Glory replied, scanning the water visually. She didn't see anything out of place, but she also didn't know what she was looking for.
"I had thought he would go after Arcturus, since he's closer to our old home..." Léan sighed. "But he has always had something against me. For the life of me, I don't know why..."
"I don't know, either," Glory said. "I don't exactly have the best model of family life, either. I didn't see anything when I took a look around, but there are places to hide around here that you can't see from the surface."
"He is dangerous...but he won't come up on land." Léan crawled up onto a higher rock. "I don't know what to do, now..."
"Well, first we get back on the beach," Glory said. "It's not that hard from here, since this rock is sunk half-way into the sand as it is. Then I go upstairs and get the suitcase, and we camp out inside for a while and see what channels they get here in Hawaii." Simple solution to a complex problem.
"But...if he knows the shark is with us, he'll find it and kill it," Léan reminded her, softly. He frowned, then perked up a bit. "It isn't that big yet...perhaps Viktor can find a big enough tank for it? It should fit in one of the rooms, if they're big enough. It would scare Selena, however." He looked amused by that thought.
"That just makes me want to put it into our room more," GLory said, grinning. She might be friendly with Selena, but all wasn't forgiven quite yet. Digging into her pocket, she sent Viktor a message, asking about the tank.
Viktor responded quickly enough, telling her to wait a moment. His truck crested the hill a moment later with a large tank, with a filter on it. "Will this do?" he asked, his head out of the window. "If so, I'll take it back now and fill it up...and I'll be back a minute later with a tarp. Sharks can survive out of water for about fifteen minutes, as long as you keep it moving...needs to keep moving to live."
"That should be alright," Glory replied, referring to the tank. It looked big enough, and the shark couldn't outgrow it in a week, could it?
"All right, then," Viktor called, as he turned the truck around. "You should get that shark ready to go! Get it some food before I come back!"
Slipping down off of the rock, Glory gave a cautious look around before wading out just far enough that the shark could come up next to her. Holding out a hand, she stroked it as it went by.
"Sweetness, go find something to eat, alright?" she said softly. She wasn't sure if it could understand her, but she hoped it could. "You need to be back in a few minutes, though." |
The shark stubbornly refused to move now that Glory had shown it attention. After a moment, Léan's shoulders slumped, and he slowly slid back into the water. He returned a moment later with a rather big, squirming fish and held it out to the shark.
The shark snapped its jaws shut on it at once, killing it and snacking on it. Léan quickly pulled himself up onto the rock again. |
Glory stayed standing in the water, since it only came up to her knees. She leaned against the rock, so she could keep an eye on the little shark.
"So much for a relaxing vacation," she said. |
Léan sighed. "I'm sorry...I shouldn't have come..." He was silent for a moment. "Well...we can still have fun. Maybe Viktor has a way to disguise what I am in public. He does have a near-limitless supply of money to use..."
"You have as much right to a vacation as anyone," Glory replied. "It's not your fault. I'm sure we'll think of something." She grinned. "Then again, we could put you into the tank as well," she teased gently. "It would probably be more comfortable to sleep in than the tub or suitcase."
"I think you would have to get Selena's approval first, or she'll go crazy," Léan reminded her. "But...that would be nice, if it's possible."
"If she doesn't like it, we'll figure something out," Glory replied. "But to be perfectly honest, it's a practical solution that doesn't involve the semi-permanent use of the bathtub."
Léan nodded, understanding. "I believe that tank, from the looks of it, might also fit into your home if you have someone to help carry it in...we could use that when I get tired of my brother's company, or--even better--for Damon to stay in. I fear for Damon, in his current state, if my father gets a hold of him."
Viktor returned as he spoke, with a large blue tarp in the back of his truck. "All right...let's get that shark mobile." |
"We can discuss things later," Glory said to Léan. She looked out at the shark. "Now... how is this going to work...?"
"We scoop up the shark and your friend there and wrap them up in the tarp. That'll conceal Léan from everyone else and help keep the shark calm," Viktor explained.
"That sounds good," Léan mused. |
"Whatever you both think is best," Glory said. "We'll go with that."
"All right, then. You mind getting Léan? He'll probably be easier to get than your shark friend, here," Viktor reasoned. He thought the shark might struggle and try to bite.
