Six & June through Space and Time!
Six and June traveling through time and space!
In an alley in a small village there was a blank wall. It is an average wall, there's nothing special about it. No doors no windows, nothing just a plain brick wall. On the wind a faint screeching, almost pulsating sound can be heard. Look again at the wall and just of the corner of your eye you will see a door that was not there before. It's just a door, so you pay it no mind, but the trick is not the door it self, but what's inside it. His trench coat swept the ground as he walked down the side walk looking around. He was holding a small hand held device in his hand. The man was moving it around like he was scanning for something, once or twice he smacked it like some one would smack a broken television. The device was beeping, as he reached a cross walk the beeping grew louder and the man turned right and moved across the street. |
As her pink hair fled behind her, Miyu hugged her briefcase close to her while running to the store. "I can't believe I forgot to get more milk!" The streets seemed rather bare to her at that point. She'd moved to the village because it was quieter than the large city she'd moved from, but she did miss the noise of the city at times. The village did have its perks, though. The store was easily accessible for her, as were all stores, and most of the people were friendly. She'd managed to at least become friendly with some. To her, getting to know people was always a plus no matter what.
She stopped short, however, at one end of the crosswalk. The man across from her, walking toward the side she was on from the other end, looked unfamiliar. The last time there had been a tourist or anyone new in the village was likely around a month after she came a year ago. Never since. What was it he was there for, though? Curiosity struck her, so she ran to him, smiling to him with a curious glaze over her eyes. "Sir? Are you looking for something? It's uncommon to see someone from outside the village inside." |
"Yes, I'm scanning the areas for any psychic feedback. You haven't seen any giant brains sitting around here have you? Walking mannequins anything like that? No, sorry I'm rambling," he said. He took a pair of glasses out of his coat and put them on. He stared at the screen of the device.
"That's a...Unique question, to say the least..." She giggled, smiling up at him. "So you're looking for anything bizarre? I don't think you'd find it here, though. This village is pretty bland, actually. That's why we rarely get outsiders coming to visit!" As she watched his intent gaze at the device, she asked a question once more. "May I ask what that is though? It looks pretty fancy to me..."
"Didn't I say? Oh, sorry this is a device for scanning for psychic feedback, are there any big abandoned wear houses in this town?" he said. Suddenly he looked up at the pink haired girl. "Sorry, I forgot to ask, what's your name?"
"It's okay. Most people don't ask that sorta thing nowadays, though I don't know why... My name is Miyu. It's nice to meet you, Mister... Um... Your name is?" Giggling lightly, feeling foolish for her wording, she thought to herself. "Well, there is a house near mine that hasn't been lived in since the owner passed away before I moved here. Maybe it's there that you want to go?"
"That's is exactly where I want to go! Let's go there, right now!" he said beginning to walk off. He turned back around. "I'm the Proffessor by the way. Where did you say your house was?" he asked smiling.
"Isn't there more to your name then just 'Professor'? Like a first or last name? Most people consider the word "professor" to have to do with a profession more than anything...." Shrugging it off, she pointed in the direction of her home. "It's that way. Just make a right at the drug store and you'll see it easily. The abandoned house is in really bad shape with the roof barely up but no one's fixed it. You can't miss it."
The Professor turned and began walking. He stopped and turned around again. "Are you coming?" he asked.
"I can't- I need to get some milk from the store. I ran out at home. You'll be okay anyway, though, won't you? You can always ask someone else if you get lost- everyone knows everyone, so if you just tell them it's near my house, they'll help you get to the right place."
"There's time for milk after I save the earth. Trust me the last thing you want to do is make buying milk the last thing you ever do," he said. A mannequin in the window of a shop started moving. It stood up from the chair it was sitting in and began beating on the glass. The Professor and Miyu stared at it. It stared back at them.
Miyu was curious. "Strange... That mannequin never moved before. It must be some sort of new mechanical one- it does look a different color then the old ones." She giggled and looked to the man near her. "And what do you mean 'save the earth'? You really are confusing me. And either way, I doubt you need me for it no matter what it is you need to do. What would make me so helpful? I'm really rather curious and confused now..."
"That's beautiful thing about it though. You are just an average human being. You can wake up one morning and say, 'I'm going out for milk' and find yourself saving the world," The professor stared intently at her for a second. Suddenly his gaze loosened into a more playful expression," But who am I really? Just a mad man with a vial of anti-plastic showing up in a small town out of no where to break in to a house I've never been to before. Sorry to bother!" he turned to walk away.
She blinked- he was very confusing, yet very interesting. Though she wanted to just continue on for her milk, she couldn't get his words to stop echoing in her head. He'd said he was a mad man. He didn't seem insane, though. He seemed like he was trouble, but not insane. "Wait up, sir!" She ran after him, deciding it was safer to follow due to her own curiosity. Better to go for milk later rather then end up dwelling on it for the entire day, right?
"Decided to join up have you?" he said smiling. More and more window dummies were standing up. "It's getting worse," he said," the consciousness is waking them up. I hope you're right about this abandoned house. How far away was it again?" He sped up a bit.
She sped equally to keep up with them. "This is sorta starting to get to be like a horror movie. I'm getting scared, actually... Are you going to play the part of the hero that saves everyone while I hide in the corner?" Pushing her joking habit aside, she added, "Follow me, there's a small shortcut if we go this way!" She began to run ahead, turning into an early alley that had barely enough room to fit a person to go, sliding through to the other end and pointing at the house. "Luckily it leads to the backyard. Any signs?"
"No, you're going to save the world and I'm going to hide in the corner!" he said smiling. "It might be scary but, you gotta admit it's exciting!" He looked around the back yard. "There's nothing from what I can see, let's go." they approached the back door of the abandoned house. It was small, the consciousness must be in a basement some where. He approached the door and tried the handle. It was locked. He took out a device from his jacket and pointed it at the door. It made a weird noise until the door unlocked. "Right in we go, keep your eyes open," he said as he began to look for a basement door.
"I can't walk with them closed so that sounds fine." Miyu giggled, glad for the quick comic relief as she followed. "I haven't ever been in here now that I think about it..."
"No, no one's been in here for ages. I can't imagine a sisteen consciousness lives here. They'd have to stir up some dust to get it in here. Hold on," he said moving towards a door. "There's some foot prints here," he looked up. "What'd ya say? Should we follow them?" he asked her letting the excitement show in his voice.
"I'm leaving that to you. You seem to have experience with this stuff- I definitely know I don't."
He looked back down at the floor. Then up at the door, "Alright then let's go," he said as they moved down stairs.
Miyu kept slightly closer than she normally would. She was easily excited and easily curious, but it didn't keep her from being cautious. He was the one who was experienced, she remembered. So, for her to let him stay in front was probably the safest choice.
The Professor crept down the stairs. The basement was dark. He looked around it for a few brief seconds. He looked back at Miyu and whispered, "I don't think there's a Systeen Consciousness down here but there's definitely something down here. Something rustled in the dark. He reached for the device in his coat but didn't draw it. "Don't be scared," he said to Miyu. The rustling grew louder.
Stuttering lightly, she frowned. "You make that sound easy, sir..." Being scared usually is the hard part... But... In this situation... The rustling caused her to snap out of her thoughts, jumping lightly and barely able to keep balance. "W-What's going on...?"
The Professor spotted the human shaped outlines. They had found and cornered them this basement. Their lifeless eyes shone through the darkness with ill intent. He took Miyu's hand in his and breathed deeply. He looked to her, "Run," he said. They both took off back up the stair with the creatures in hot pursuit. They reached the back door and shut it. He took the device out of his coat pocket and pressed it to the door. It made a strange sound locking the door. Thumps came from the other side of the door. "That won't hold them for long," he said turning around. They both took off running back to where they came.
