The Afro Chocobo

Welcome one and all! This is a thread dedicated solely to the most epicful game series ever (in my book at least) Fina Fantasy.

May this thread serve as a place for all Final Fantasy lovers to come and talk about any and everything final fantasy related! I skimmed the forum but I didn't see anything about this here somehow. If I missed it I do appologize, truly not trying to double topic! I'd liek to stress that this is about ALL things Final Fantasy, not just a specific game or even just the games specifically.

Feel free to talk about the games, movies, spin offs, anime, manga, anything related to it. Heck feel free to show us your fan art and fan stories if you want to! We'd love to see them!

As for why I named the thread AFro Chocobo, I just thought the little guy living in Sazh's hair in 13 was kinda cute. Probably my favorite part of the game. And hey, what can I say, it sounded cool. I just like saying "afro chocobo"

All Mene rules apply here, this should go without saying. Also, everyone please try to get along and play nice kids!

Parasite Steve 04-07-2010 07:00 AM

That chocobo... Frak... I missed the Twitter event that gave you a free Chocobo prop for your avatar for 360... Makes me sad.

I said I was going to sleep but I failed so I'm back =D

Favorite Final Fantasy was 6(Or American 3), with Terra and Kefka. Potentially my favorite pro and antagonist of all the Series.

Least Favorite would be 11... Not a fan of MMOs.

Favorite character is stuck between Terra(6), Zidane(9) and Blank(9).

What else can I say? Reno was my favorite Turk. Only one's I haven't played are 11, 3(Japanese 3), and the mobile phone one.

Jenova Rofocale 04-07-2010 02:25 PM

Hmmmm... favorite games are FFX (Because I love LuLu and Auron) and Dirge of Cerberus (Because I love Vincent.) Although next in line would have to be FFXII purely because I love going around screaming "I'M CAPTAIN BAASCH OF DALMASCA!"

Following the pattern here, my least favorite is probably FFX-2... Its just annoying as all get out. O_o

Favorite character I'd probably have to say Sephiroth. He's just so darn sexy. XD

And as for the TURKS, I'm gonna have to say Reno as well, unless Vincent still counts.

CrownofEblan 04-07-2010 08:37 PM

Well, I can't say there's a game I particularly dislike, but my favorites are FFIV (like that's really a supprise), FFVII:Ciiris Core /sepcifically/ and Dissidia.

I've played parts or all of most of the games, the notable exceptions being Final Fantasy VI (Terra), III (Onion, how I do wish I had you) The Turk mobile game, X-2, XI, and XIII.

Favorite Charater? Let's just say /lots/. Least favorite is Kefka. Creeps me out like you wouldn't believe.

And Favorite Turk? Sorrry folks, but I gotta roll with Tseng. I love Reno, and Rude isn't bad either, but no.

Parasite Steve 04-07-2010 09:30 PM

Not asking for a dislike, just a least favorite. what's the mobile phone like? I really want to try it but can't get it for my phone.

To be honest all the Turks are pretty awesome.

And don't doubt Kefka.

CrownofEblan 04-07-2010 10:31 PM

I /haven't/ played the mobile game. The games listed are ones I either have never played or haven't gotten atleast halfway through on.

I actually own very few games, I just 'borrow' my friends games and their consoles XD

Parasite Steve 04-07-2010 10:57 PM

Oh whoops my bad for misreading!
You haven't played FFVI!? Go! Go play it now!
As far as owning goes I have: VII, IX, X, X-2, XIII, Tactics(Broken...), Tactics The War of the Lions(PSP remake), and Crisis Core.
Friend owns VIII, I'll prolly burrow it off him and hopefully beat it before rating it again. I don't recall why I didn't like it... Just know I didn't.
Currently hoping for an awesome remake of VI That I can play... So XBLA or PSP. It would suck if they did a DS one... (Because I don't have a DS)

CrownofEblan 04-08-2010 02:06 AM

I've played FFVI a 'little bit' and watched some cutscenes/animation-things on youtube. I'd have to find someone who has it, though. And that would be a pain.

Jenova Rofocale 04-08-2010 04:10 AM

In all honesty, I enjoy watching other people play Final Fantasy then actually playing it. Does it still count? I mean, I HAVE played, but not as often as I've watched. ^^;

I also wish Blitz Ball was possible. It would be one of the best sports ever.

Parasite Steve 04-08-2010 04:12 AM

I SUCKED at Blitzball... I don't think I ever understood the game... I should prolly go back and see if my now superior brain can comprehend that game.

Watching people play counts I guess? You still see the awesome story and fights. Kinda like watching a movie.

Is playing XIII as we speak =3
I kinda wish I could skip the running from point a to b... It's pretty linear for a FF. I haven't even been to a town or world map yet and I'm on disc 2. Funnily enough I'm on disc 2 and I still can't even change my team. Still feels like the prologue.

Jenova Rofocale 04-08-2010 05:15 AM

Ugh... I always hated the whole traveling aspect... EVERYTHING seemed to take SO LONG. They'd be able to fit alot more on to a game disc if they cut back on the travel. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy fighting, but after a while its like... Really?

Parasite Steve 04-08-2010 05:41 AM

I personally liked the traveling. It's nice having a whole world. Feels more realistic. And it REALLY helps grinding. Hard to grind when you can't back track, or just run around in one spot.

Jenova Rofocale 04-08-2010 06:03 AM

I suppose that is true. I guess I'm just impatient? Heh.

BlackSwan317 04-09-2010 05:40 AM

This may sound weird but I kinda agree with you both. Lol. At first, I usually like the running around killing stuff earning ex and such, but then usually after about the fifth hour of game play I find myself pondering the fast travel necessity and getting pissed at encountering the same kinda random creatures for the ten billionth time. This goes for most rpg's as well, not just final fantasy. Like, I was big into Oblivion, probably lost months out of my life if you were to add up all my time from my various characters, and it always started out the same, I'd try to make myself just run everywhere so I could fight things and find the various things on the map etc etc etc, but after about the fiftieth wolf or wild hog that I killed, or the tenth time I died because some random bear or mt lion actually mauled the s**t outta me, I'd just start traveling to the closest point I had.

Ok sorry, I know that was kind off the ff realm topic, but I thought the principle applied, and it still holds true in a very similar way for my over all final fantasy experiences. Like, I know just in the first twenty minutes of play 3/6 on the advanced I found myself getting irritated at how much stuff I kept encountering just trying to walk through part of the cave or whatever random thing I was doing at that point (No, I wasn't in the opening cave place for twenty minutes... at least I don't think I was... it's been almost 3 years since I played 3/6. Had it stolen out of my back pack in college and just never got over the frustration to buy it again... now that I think about it I really hope that I'm even talking about the right ff... I really hope I am. I'd Google it and research a bit to find out for sure but I'm at work and pretty much anything game related is blocked on our work comp).

Parasite Steve 04-09-2010 06:00 AM

Ya that's true. It can get old at the start. I agree that part in VI does get old fast... I prefer random encounters with characters I use. So fighting with Biggs and Wedge is pretty stupid. A fast travel does help in some cases but it's there so your not behind enemies level. In XIII I feel the monsters are too strong and I should have grinded a bit in the last section.

I do quite enjoy grinding though. I remember in IX I was stuck on the last boss so I ran outside and grinded from level 40 to 70.
And in Eternal Sonata I couldn't progress through the story (Because Orcarina(A member here) doesn't like spoilers and we were taking turns playing it) so I just sat there and grinded for about 8 hours.

Jenova Rofocale 04-09-2010 06:00 AM

I agree with you completely. I feel the same way about Assassins Creed. When I'm not admiring the amazing graphics, I find myself really irritated that I cannot just get on with the main plotline. As cool as it is to do Leaps of Faith after doing a Viewpoint, it gets rather repetitive and dull. Same goes for FF. I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT, COME ON. *Throws controller across the room in frustration*

Parasite Steve 04-09-2010 06:01 AM

Yaaaa that part in Assassins Creed did suck.
Outside running from point a to b FFXIII is just story and no world map or random encounters. but I'm thinking linear hallways point a to b is worse then huge ass world point a to b.

BlackSwan317 04-09-2010 06:08 AM

I agree. It is. O_o don't even get me started with the controller throwing. Lol. I smashed the hell outa my one lamp when the x-box controller took a bad bounce after I chucked it at our very big over stuffed poofy couch. Granted I haven't thrown one in ages. I got my temper under control big time when I Was pregnant, and I won't even raise my voice to anyone else if my child is in the room. I had to grow up in a home where people were always yelling and fighting and slamming stuff around so I don't ever wanna put her through that. On the note of my child though, she LOVES sitting on my lap playing ff12 on the ps2 with me. :-p I gave her an old controller that doesn't work anymore and she'll sit and mash on the buttons and try to copy what I'm doing with the working controller. She gets all happy and giggles when the music come on after winning a fight :-p I'm so already programming her to love FF. She also loves watching advent children.

Parasite Steve 04-09-2010 06:14 AM

Nice. I plan to sit my child down and make him/her play through all the Final Fantasy's before they can do anything else... I'd say the same for Clock Tower but not sure if I want to put a kid through that... Maybe when they're older. Gotta teach them the good games.

I don't smash controllers. When I do throw, it's upward so I just catch it to avoid damage, this happening a lot in Resonance of Fate, it's a fun game but quite hard bosses.

Back to FF. I need to go back and beat IX and VII... I made it to the last boss like three times in both of them... but my file always blows up before I beat them...

BlackSwan317 04-09-2010 06:18 AM

Uggh! I had that happen once in 7. I don't even remember what happened... I think that might have been the thunderstorm moment. One of the ff's I was playing on a play station system at any rate. I was almost through it, and hadn't yet learned teh beauty keeping up two save files, when a thunderstorm knocked the power out while I was saving D-8. I turned it back on and my ff save was just.... gone... it was almost heartbreaking. Luckily my Xenogears file was still there :-p

Parasite Steve 04-09-2010 06:27 AM

Good ol' Xenogears and Blanka's cousin Rico.
In case you don't get my joke:
http://fightingstreet.com/folders/va..._pics/rico.jpg

Playing Sword of Mana (Which is pretty much FF: Mystic Quest(Least I think it's Mystic quest... maybe one of the other ones) my batteries were dying so I went to save, and they died while saving so it killed the file... I hate that.

So, whats everyones take on FFXIV? I heard it was supposed to be another MMO.

BlackSwan317 04-09-2010 06:35 AM

Hahaha That's awesome about the Rico Blanka bit :-p I honestly never thought about that till just then.

CrownofEblan 04-11-2010 05:55 PM

FFXVI?

I know there are three XIII's, but I haven't heard of a fourteenth. Yet. Unless it's just the U.S. fudging the entire numbering system. Again.

Parasite Steve 04-11-2010 06:16 PM

There are three XIII's that's not America ruining things (I don't think) but I also heard of another MMO for FFXIV To google!
FINAL FANTASY XIV | SQUARE ENIX

Not looking forward to another MMO... I still haven't played XI so it's just a scar on my not played list...

BlackSwan317 04-12-2010 03:26 AM

So after much deliberation and mucking about in hyperspace, I decided to stat playing through 3/6 again, considering StEve will be back to school and not on late enough for me to spend all night talking to him. :-( Which saddens me greatly. SOOOOO I shall now be bringing my ds in and playing it while at work instead of sitting on mene all night. I'll still be on mene off and on over the night, hopefully with random rants and praises of the game as I play ^_^ Wish me luck!
