I picked certain plants and animals to place on Belle Island after a 1,000-year flood destroyed the plants and animals on Belle Island. Some were native, and some were non-native. This way, I was “recreating” and ecosystem by introducing these species to this area.
I think that improving an ecosystem by creating suitable habitat helps wildlife populations, not harms. It helps wildlife populations because you can reintroduce certain plants an animals that would keep other plants’ and animals’ stable. For example, if I picked the Osprey and the Bluegill, then the Osprey would eat the Bluegill, while the Bluegill would eat small plants in the water and worms. If there were more Osprey than Bluegills, then they would eat too much of the Bluegills and if there were too many Bluegills, then the worm population would go down. In this way, creating suitable habitat helps wildlife populations.
I don’t think that resource managers could design and actually develop an entire ecosystem “from scratch” because it would require a lot of planning and also, there are many factors that affect wildlife populations. For example, there’s weather, water, space, soil, sunlight, and much more. So in my opinion, it is not very realistic that resource managers could design and develop an entire ecosystem “from scratch.”
