Sometimes I have the feeling George Lucas doesn't know as much as we'd hope. Or maybe it's just directing he doesn't know enough about. I'm still unhappy about the new movies.
Oh I know. I was fairly happy with one, a bit disappointed with two and just didn't like three, but Lucas really wrote himself into a hole there. He had to have Anakin fall in love, grow up, turn to the Dark Side and have kids all in three movies, so all things considered, I think he did fairly well. Still prefer the old ones, though. I like number six best.
Personally I don't think the story was at all the problem. Just something was lost in the 30 years. It just turned into more action flicks without soul. D:
I've noticed that more and more with movies...just take a look at The Sting versus any recent movie dealing with con men. New movies just don't have it. 1970's and earlier had the best music and movies, in my opinion.
We're all too saturated with ideas, it's impossible to throw something new at us anymore. Or at least, we just don't notice when we see it, so we just complain about there being no originality.
I wouldn't disagree with the saturation, but as far as originality goes, there's been a lot of repetitiveness for centuries; human culture has a few ideas that get drawn on for new stories. Look at any of the ancient stories of any culture around the world - they follow general themes. In that sense, originality disappeared from the earth before the Dark Ages.
Well, I guess that's one way of looking at it. I like to think there's at least a little innovation left over though. =P
The innovation, I think, is in how the story gets told. For example: good versus evil is one theme that's fairly common. A take on it is evil overloard versus good rebels. A unique take on it is a a Deathstar, Jedi masters, Sith, and X-Wing fighters.
That's a good point. I don't have much to say other than I'd never thought of it like that.
That's just how I think of things :) I do that a lot.
Well, if you have any revelations about Yoda and Star Wars, just let me know. =P
I'll certainly try and think of some ^^ I have a half-arsed idea forming already, actually.
Well, while you work on that I have to point out my friends are planning a full, all 6 parts Star Wars marathon soon, so I will make sure to compare the Yodas. Perhaps the whole one sitting viewing thing will reveal some other revelation.
Oo, possibly. Good luck sitting through almost 24 hours of video...I can hardly make it through one movie without distracting myself in some way.
Well we did all the Lord of the Rings in one sitting, so Star Wars is sort of, next on the list of series to see. xD I just eat a lot to stay awake.
Lord of the Rings is half as long as Star Wars :P Staying awake isn't the problem for me, it's not going crazy passively staring at one thing for hours on end.
Come now, Lord of the Rings is not half as long as Star Wars. We did extended edition Return of the King, and our total time was over 12 hours. Star Wars will not be 25 hours. =P
If they're 2 and a half hours each it'll be what, 15 hours? |
I was referring to the normal length <.< How should I have known it was the extended edition? Normal length would be half as long as Star Wars.
No it wouldn't! For that to be true, Star Wars movies would have to be as long as Lord of the Rings movies. Lord of the Rings movies none-extended editions are about 3 and a half hours. Star Wars? Not even close.
Here, according to Wikipedia, Lord of the Rings has a theatrical running time of 558 minutes, or 9 hours and 18 minutes. All six Star Wars movies is supposedly 13 hours and 44 minutes. Also, I guess I was wrong about Lord of the Rings being 12 hours. That's a gross exaggeration, even with an extended edition. |
If you say so. I was working off how long the series are each and making an estimate.
Well, 6 is twice as much as 3, but you just have to take into account how absurdly long all the Lord of the Rings movies are.
They didn't seem long to me. Movies never seem long/short to me because I'm always doing something else while I watch them. To me, all movies seem about the same length.
Hahaha
I have a terrible attention span for things like movies. I always know if movies are long or short, regardless of if they have my full attention or not. =P |
