Art Dump by Jazz =D

Hi people! I wanna show off some of my new art. While I appreciate compliments... (Ok I love them xD) I also appreciate honest helpful C&C feedback.

yes I will open an art shop once I get back into the hang on things here. Since I am poor and really need things to fill all my excess free time with. So please don't ask. xD

This is my new OC. So far I have only determined that her name is Toffee. =D Further suggestions for her background are more than welcome.

As a compliment you have a very fine and clean lineart. But i think your drawings most times lack volume, shading is very important, even when you are working with flat color like those. I like the use of the gradient in the first drawing, and my only wish there is that you used it more. Perhaps you should try experimenting with brushes and textures so your drawings gain a little more "impact". When i saw them i was like "Whoa!... but this could be so much better". I believe texture and volume is what you need to work on right now.

My line art has always seemed to draw compliments. =D Thank you.

Texture has always been my achilles heel so to speak. I have never been able to grasp them well enough to be satisfied with the outcome. And finding decent tutorials is hard as hell. It is definitely something to take into consideration though because I do know that my work could be so much more if I could grasp textures a bit better.

Try looking textures in this web: [CG Textures] - The worlds largest free texture site. There you can find a lot of diferent textures, from rock to fabric.

Not allways the goal is to use texture to give realism to you drawings (Using a fabric texture on your Oc's clothes for example). Sometimes you can use them just to give a certain feel over your entire artwork. For example for a urban look i like using concrete textures over mi characters with a very dim "multiply" or "color/linear burn". This way, they seem dirty, like they were painted on a rough surface. A lot of textures work in this kind of fashion.

Also, i highly recommend you to look for "Alex Dukal" set of Brushes. They are great for organic effects.

I'm not fantastically fond of overlaying textures like that. I was thinking of a more painterly texture using different brushes and techniques. But some of those textures would be quite interesting to use.
