music matters

Across the world school bands learn and play songs. By doing so the kids get better at playing their chosen instrument. In my opinion music is a way to help feed and strengthen one's soul. i play the trumpet and have ben doing so for almost a full 4 years. A conducter of mine ounce said
Quote:

The notes are just ink on a page but what makes it music, is how you interpret the notes and what you put into playing them.
To this day that quote still rings true for me. I hope to see your oppinions on music and what it means to you, if you choose to post here.

I just like to think of music as an outlet of human feelings because we can't do it in words. I mean, I can't tell you what happiness is, but maybe through music I can make you feel it yourself. It's a show instead of a tell.
Also, your quote box isn't coded quite right. =P

I totaly aagree with what you said about happyness. Also i am not entirely sure how to set my quote boxes. Lastly north america.

Quotes are easy. In the basic text box they'res a button that looks like a speech bubble, press that and them type or copy/paste your text inbetween the two "quote" tags. The other way to do it is write
-text-
(minus the space in the 'end quote' tag).

Music for me, is soul lifting. I was never good at playing an instrument, I'm so tone deaf it's not funny, *eyeroll* but I am a good dancer. I love to dance. Music allows me to step out of the crowd and go "hey everyone, check me out." It's liberating freedom...

Note: Although I have to ask, why did you post your location? His signature is the link to his thread about where you live, and thats where you would post it.

Listen to her for coding and my signature.

Basically, the quote box is a code in two parts. The first part says the box starts here, and the second one ends it. The / in the second is sort of the off key.
And yeah, you've told me your location in a couple places now, including in the thread. Don't worry about it. xD

I know what you mean about dancing Syraan. Well, I can't dance at all, I don't feel it in my body, but I love to sing. Not even sing well, but singing at all is like, passionate. When I really like music I just want to sing out, and that's uplifting.

Codette 05-10-2010 04:54 AM

I totally understand Hermes! I love to sing as well. I suck at it, but theres nothing like being home alone and cranking up your music, just to dance around like a fool and sing off-key. When I'm around people, I try to sing softer so my voice is barely noticeable, but I can never resist getting up and dancing even when it's not socially appros. *giggles*

I'm in a lot of drama classes, and sometimes we end up doing dancey stuff (not including my actual dance classes). Like, movement classes. But some of them have started with instructions like "Just move to the music however you feel it" For me that means walk on beat and twitch my fingers and do a head bob. I just want to sing. =P
I was in Beauty and the Beast last year, and I played Lumiere, so I got to sing Be Our Guest, and that's by far one of the most satisfying things I've ever done.

Codette 05-11-2010 12:40 PM

I'm almost 19 (in 2 months) I've been taking drama classes since I was 10! I also took all 4 years of drama!

Unfortunetly my classes rarely had anything to do with dance, except the 2 years I was in my high schools musicals. We did Pirates of Penzance and Les Miserables.

"just move however you feel like"? Wow, for me, that would involve twirls and sways... I walk normally for everyone elses sake ^.^'

Hermes 05-13-2010 12:53 AM

You did Les Mis? Holy shit, you lucky bugger!

Anyways, our school has a pretty in depth drama program, and I've done a lot of theatre stuff outside of school (I'm 18 right now, just finishing High School this year). I do dance classes in school, but that doesn't count here. Have you never had a movement class? I'll bet you've done like, heavy vs light, slow vs. fast, direct vs. indirect, right? That's drama class movement, and the whole move how you feel thing was that too, to a different degree.
In any case, it was an interesting way to experience how everyone else hears and feels music. Another fun thing to do is just stand in a circle and take turns going in to dance to the music and have everyone else try to join in, but ban 'dance moves.' What I found was that some people dance to the vocals, some to the bass line, etc. People are actually focusing on different parts of songs.

What most schools lack is an opportunity for people to get into guitar and bass.. I honestly, out of the.. Hold on, let me count.. 9? 10, if IDT counts, anyways, out of the 10 schools I have gone to (I am a freshman, and I will be moving AGAIN soon, oh the horror..) not one of them have had any sort of a rock / punk / metal group. Sure, most people learn that and get started on it on their own, but "orchestra" and "band" is all.. not really relevant to society any more. o_o;

Hermes 05-14-2010 01:37 AM

I think orchestral musical training is totally relevant to society. There's still a thriving classical music scene, and like many other things, learning classically is an excellent doorway to other forms of performing. Specifically to guitar, you can learn 3 chords and write pop punk rock, but if you know all about the guitar, you'll just be a better musician. And even if you're not learning guitar, the knowledge of music you get from learning other instruments will still definitely aid you.
