Heh. That would be fun. Root vegetables, especially. I wonder if I could do a turnip base. XD

Yeah, she does. Called Tiger Suit. She also has an American tour coming up. Geez, it would be fun to see her live, though I don't know if I want to drive all that way. :gonk:

I have eclectic taste, too, though I like classical music and have '90s nostalgia pretty bad. Even the bad '90s pop music is better than the bad pop music now. XD

Sorry. Wish I could help you, but... I'm not much of a linguist, unfortunately. (Note to self: Brush up on French.)

Ew. Geez. Yeah, that's nasty.

Vexatious~Venom 09-19-2010 04:56 PM

A little turnip would look pretty good personified as a geek xD

Oh that sounds good. I'm up north in Scotland so I have to travel four hours to see anything decent, but there is a music venue about half an hour away from me, and that is where some people have been playing. The last one I went to see was Mr Hudson and in December I am going to see Professor Green <3

I hate the 90's for music. There is a few songs that I like, but mainly I can't stand it. 'Groove Is In The Heart' by Deelite has to be the worst in my opinion.

I think the 80's is the best generation for music <3

I suck at languages too. My french skills are shocking, very glad I dropped it this year.

It was so gross. All over my school hoodie. I was nearly sick D:

Cicadetta 09-19-2010 04:59 PM

I bet it would. :p

I have to travel about two hours for the best venues in Michigan. Which is still a lot, really. Well, except for theater. We have a really good local venue there. Gets popular Broadway shows and such.

Maybe '90s, especially late '90s, was better in the States than in the UK?

I'm decent with accents, but not so much with memorization, so my vocabulary skills are extremely lacking. Verb conjugation also.

I would have been, too. Geez, do people even use tissues and handkerchiefs?

Vexatious~Venom 09-19-2010 05:04 PM

Ah, two hours travelling would suck pretty much. I think the nearest place to me that would get decent Broadway shows would be Edinburgh. I'm going on a school trip there in December, and we get to go see Hairspray at The Playhouse <3

Yeah, it had to have been better stateside. In the UK the 90s was a disasterous era for music D:

I can pull of the accents too, but I can never remember the language itself. French was just so confusing. Class went a little like this:

Teacher: There are strict grammar rules that language follows *explains rules*
Me: Easy enough...
Teacher: But there are exceptions *explains all the exceptions to the rules*
Me: :gonk:

Obviously not. No tissue was to be found D:

Cicadetta 09-19-2010 05:10 PM

We are lucky when it comes to Broadway shows. Not so much with big musical acts, I guess.

I can't imagine. We had a lot that sucked in the late '90s (*cough*boy bands*cough*), but if you listen, you can usually find something good even in bad decades. Theoretically, anyway.

I love the French accent, though. And that got much easier after the French trip during my senior year. I didn't learn much in the way of new vocabulary, but just listening to native speakers was enough.

Ew. Except you, I guess.

Well, I should probably grab some lunch and go to the store before it gets much later. Nice chatting with you! :)

Vexatious~Venom 09-19-2010 05:17 PM

We're more lucky with music acts than broadway shows, in the Summer we get a lot of festivals so it's all good :)

Like I said, there were a few things that were good, but I didn't like the majority of the 90s. The early 90s were allright, and so were the later 90s, but from about '92-'98 the music was pretty dire in my opinion.

I love the itallian accent <3

I went on a school trip to Paris in my first year, I hated it. Everyone was so rude to us over there D:

I know, I was the only one who knew xD

Have a good lunch Cica, and it was lovely catching up with you again <3

Cicadetta 09-19-2010 05:20 PM

Oh, we do get festivals around here. I really meant to go to the folk festival this summer. Just wasn't in the mood, and it came right on the heels of Lilith. (And I actually went out of state for the concert I wanted to see. That was fun.)

Early '90s still has an '80s flavor to it, so maybe that's why you like it. That's okay, but my late '90s singer/songwriters... :boogie: Yeah, I like them quite a bit.

That is a great accent! XD

Paris was my least favorite part of France. Bretagne, where we did the home stays, was the best. Though our little tour of the Loire was great, too. Really, any part of France but Paris was good, is what I'm saying.

Thanks, I will. And it was great chatting with you, too, Vex!

Vexatious~Venom 09-19-2010 05:27 PM

I never really did much this summer. Next summer I'll be sixteen and won't need an adult to get in the gates, so me and a group of my friends are going to the big festival up here. This weekend there was one called Loopallu on, Paolo Nutini was playing and I love him, but I couldn't get a ticket

Yeah, that is probably why I did like the early '90s. There weren't many artists that I loved, but there was a few songs. 'Save Tonight' by Eagle Eye Cherry is by far my favourite '90s song. I don't know why, it just is :boogie:

I'd love to go to Italy one day. I hear they have awesome ice-cream <3

I hated Paris. We were only on a four day trip, and travelling to Paris by coack from Scotland took a day on each end. So we only actually had two days in Paris. The first day we went to EuroDisney, and since I'd been to Disney World Florida, I was not impressed. The next day we went to the Eiffil tower and things like that, so it was slightly more interesting. But in general, I didn't like it.

We never got to go to the Louvre, which I was rather sad about.

I'll catch up with you soon *nod*

Cicadetta 09-19-2010 07:20 PM

K, I'm back. Quick trip. And Cica has spicy Cheez-Its and joy. XD

We didn't get to go to the Louvre, either. When we were there, the museum workers were on strike, so... Oh, but we got to see the courtyard of the place with that bizarre pyramid, at least. A group of us went to the Eiffel Tower, though, at night, so we got to see the lights and avoid pick-pockets. It was very touristy. We met another group of students from a non-francophone part of Canada. (They were very adamant about that.) Rural and small-town France is much better.

Vexatious~Venom 09-19-2010 07:28 PM

Ooh, spicy Cheez-Its sound yummy :)

Yeah, we never really got to see any of the nicer places in France. I may be going to the South of France next summer though, so I'm looking forward to that. We never got to go anywhere at night. We stayed in a hotel and were there. We had a party on the second night and got majorly screamed at by out headmaster xD

Cicadetta 09-19-2010 07:38 PM

They are. And you end up eating them more slowly because of the spicy, which is good.

The way they organized the trip was great, with the week-long home stays. Also, it's farther to go for us, so it makes sense to stay a while. But wow, Brittany. That's... probably the closest to you, actually, geographically and culturally both. And it's so beautiful. It would be neat to see the south, though!

(Misses Europe lots.)

Vexatious~Venom 09-19-2010 07:42 PM

Makes them last longer, what win <3

Our school never really organised the trip well, and after our year group went they never did the trip again...just proves how awesome a time we had ;)

My dad has travelled all over France, and he says that it's really nice there. I hear the south is supposed to be lovely and warm, so that will be why we're going. We're going to rent a boat and sail over, dock for a week, and sail back. Sounds a nice way to eat up some of my summer I have to say XD

Cicadetta 09-19-2010 07:46 PM

Exactly. ^_^

Our school organized trips (through a private firm, I think) to France every other year, so third and fourth year students could go once in their high school careers. Trips to Spain were organized on alternate years for third and fourth year Spanish students. But I only ever took one year of that. My senior year, as an elective. I wasn't the only senior in a class full of freshman, but it was close. XD

Wow, yeah, that sounds like an amazing vacation! I'd be jealous if I didn't have issues with sail boats.

Vexatious~Venom 09-19-2010 07:53 PM

Our school organises watersports trips every year. I'm a decent swimmer, but I hate all that sort of things, so I never go. Shame really.

Though this year our school has organised a trip to Edinburgh to sit in a political meeting and meet some of the Scottish MPs and shizz, as well as shopping and seeing Hairspray. So I'm looking forward to that. One of the only decent things our school does.

Ah, I won't be sailing, I will be sunbathing on the deck with a nice book and some art supplies xD

Cicadetta 09-19-2010 07:58 PM

Oh, that would be sweet. My school never did that, though it's not like we don't have lots of coastline. But, well, budgets that keep getting cut and all that.

Yep. Jealous of your upcoming Edinburgh trip. Except maybe the political stuff. That gets so... I don't know, tiresome. I don't know about the UK, but in America, it is one big public flamewar, and talk radio and Fox News is full of trolls fanning the flames.

It's not so much the sailing as riding around in tippy boats. I much prefer ferries. :)

Vexatious~Venom 09-19-2010 08:01 PM

Yeah, our school recently just re-built itself, so they don't really have enough for any other trips. The majority of our school are athletic anyway. So if you like football, hockey or watersports, then your sorted...I like none xD

Politics is pretty boring, but educational for the class I'm taking. We're studying US politics at the moment. I have found out that if I was an American I'd vote Democrat though. Shame that won't come in handy over here xD

The boat we're hiring is a Calley Cruiser, so it's sorta like a ferry, but without the space for cars XD

Cicadetta 09-19-2010 08:05 PM

Wow. And by football you mean soccer. Not the football I think of when people say football. (And I do enjoy the soccer sort of football, though I haven't played it since middle school.) Still not much into athletics, though.

To me, politics fluctuates between boring and OMG People Suck modes. Currently hating the teabaggers and the extreme right, but getting bored with the anti-tax rhetoric again. (I do tend to vote Democrat.) It gets old.

Ah, so not tippy, then!

Vexatious~Venom 09-19-2010 08:09 PM

Oh yeah, I mean soccer. Football in the states is like Rugby over here...sort of. Violent with a ball shaped like an egg xD

I'm not into sports at all. So my school sucks in that respect.

Politic does get a bit repetitive for me. We had to do a test on it on Friday, and I'm pretty sure I failed. My knowledge of facts and figures about the '08 election was shocking. All I knew was Obama won xD

Yeah, a nice smooth ride on the cruiser *nod*

Cicadetta 09-19-2010 08:12 PM

Yeah, only rugby is more interesting, and played with far less padding, last I knew. :) Just didn't know if you were "translating" or not.

My school was very strong, for a public school, in the arts. Particularly the performing arts. I was in orchestra and participated in theater, mostly backstage. Once it was both at the same time, in the pit for My Fair Lady. (I miss high school.)

Obama won, and there are nutcases still contesting his birthplace. And his religion, which doesn't even matter.

Going on a cruise sounds better than going on a sailboat!

Vexatious~Venom 09-19-2010 08:16 PM

Yeah, rugby is really for hardcore nutters. I refused to play that for PE, I saw the people on TV get flattened. It wasn't happening lol. Nah, I rarely translate things like that, I usually forget XD

I wish our school was more into the performance arts, because that is what I'm interested in. I want to get into Stand Up after I leave school, so to try and get my equity card you need stage experience. I haven't done drama since I was eleven :(

Some people are just never happy. I have to say, I like Obama much better than the UK Prime Minister, David Cameron. He is an asshat D:

It'd be rather funny if I was going in a row boat xD

Cicadetta 09-19-2010 08:20 PM

A cousin of mine played rugby once. That was entertaining, since she's kind of the quiet, cheerful sort. She didn't get hurt much, as far as I know, but it wasn't a hardcore league, either.

I think I got very lucky in terms of school districts. It's rare enough to find one with an orchestra program, especially a public school. For it to have such a huge theater program was kind of impressive. It's not a very big school, and it's kind of rural, so... :) But I never did get a part in a play. Stuck to the backstage stuff, and that was fun, too!

You're right, they're not. Of course, we always have this right vs. left tug-of-war game going on and not a lot gets done except for the flaming. And I guess I don't pay enough attention to world politics. Sometimes... sometimes I'd just rather go on about my business, do my voting and just live...

It would be either funny or disastrous, I think. XD

Vexatious~Venom 09-19-2010 08:23 PM

Yeah, in my class half of the guys are part animal, so I refused to be anywhere near them when they charged. That is just frightening xD

Ah, our school has connections to an orchestra, the Highland Youth Regional Orchestra, but since the only instrument I can play is the Keyboard, it doesn't help me either xD

I'd quite like to do backstage stuff too. What sort of things were you doing?

I don't pay much attention to politics in my own time, basically since I'm not elegible to vote until the next election. I only know about politcis because I have to if I want to pass my exam. I used to be really good at it, but then I dropped the class for two years and now I'm failing xD

Disasterous or funny, either way it will make for a great anecdote xD

Cicadetta 09-19-2010 08:29 PM

Ohh, good grief. Yeah, I don't know if I could deal with rugby. Football/soccer is dangerous enough!

If you can play the keyboard, can't you play the piano as well?

I was mostly doing set moving. We had a whole team of set movers, and we had to be fast and coordinated due to time restrictions on the contest plays. Once I helped clean out the props closet, though. That was a mess. oO

I feel guilty about not paying more attention. It's just... there are so many nutjobs making noise, it's just easier to ignore the whole thing, mostly. Sad but true.

Yes. Yes, it would. You could write a book about rowing a boat from Scotland to the south of France!

Vexatious~Venom 09-19-2010 08:38 PM

I know! I hate sprorts when there is the chance of injury, I'm a wuss. I think chess is about the only sport I can handle xD

I don't know. I've never had access to a piano, I assume so...but who knows o.O

The last thing I did for a production was stage make-up. I got to make everyone look awesome and Shakespearean xD

I know what you mean, much easier to ignore the nutjobs than try to reason with them -.-

Yeah, my epic journey. Just imagine the upper body strength I'd have after that xD

Cicadetta 09-19-2010 08:41 PM

I don't hate them, but I am not an aggressive player at all. When I was playing in a non-competitive soccer league in middle school, I generally played left defense. I could kick the ball pretty well with my left foot, which not everyone can do, I guess, so they put me there. Not a lot of running and tackling in that position!

I tend to think of the piano and keyboards as similar instruments in terms of technique. Probably wrong, but... :/

Yeah, I don't think I could deal with makeup. That sounds like fun, though!

And yes. Hard to ignore the nutjobs, too, though. They are so loud!

You'd probably want to work out before the epic rowing journey, too!
