Pets

I did not see a topic about this already, so here I go.
A topic I'm always interested in talking about, Pets!
Come and discuss about your own pets too. Discuss anything you want about them.

I have five cats + one cat my parents and I are babysitting for my older cousin for the summer. All six of the cats are females, all of different ages.

There is Tiger as the oldest. She's going to be either 13 or 14 this year in August. She's kind of a grumpy old kitty now. Tiger is my cat, I've had her ever since she was a kitten. <333

Boots is the second oldest, coming in at about 3 - 4 years old. We think she's about that old, we're not 100% sure. She was an abandoned cat who found her way to our door step and we took her in. She's become my dad's cat because she looks exactly like his childhood cat whom was also named Boots. Only different is that childhood Boots was a boy. This Boots is a girl.

Finnegan is the third oldest, being my mother's cat. We went and adopted her at a nearby shelter. She was named after a cat my mom had as a child.

Then the two babies (who are also sisters from the same litter) are Merry and Pippin, both just over a year old now. We went and adopted them from the same shelter that Finnegan came from. Merry doesn't look like she'll ever grow any bigger than she has. I like to call her a little "pocket kitty". :P

Sally is my older cousin's cat, who is also about 3 - 4 years old. We're watching her for the summer while my cousin goes off to work at some camp in Kentucky.

I LOVE cats! :)

Also, I'd like to say that I misread at first the name of the two kitties as "Mary" and "Poppin." I was like "What? No way!" Then I reread it. :P

Anyways, I love little kitties. I don't have any pets at the moment, and it sucks. At my dad's there is Kirill, a Miniature American Eskimo (no, not a huskie. Eskimo is a different breed of dog). He's really needy and an attention whore. Lol. He also thinks he's like 5 lbs. but he's actually like 50. ("Miniature" is a relative word, eh?) I love him though. :)

I've got two dogs and two parrots.

One dog, named Buddy, is a mix of a boston terrier and an Italian greyhound. It sounds weird as hell, I know, but he's adorable. He loves sitting on people's laps and he will lick you forever. Nonstop. He used to have sooo much energy for the longest time. He's barely larger than the average house cat, but he can easily clear our couch in one jump (and therefore probably the fence in the front yard, but he hasn't discovered this yet). He's very well-behaved until he escapes from the fence. Then he just runs everywhere and scares us to death. O_O He's almost gotten hit by a car so many times. *heart attack* He's calmed down a lot since we got our other dog, but he's still crazy outside the fence. He's also the sweetest dog I've ever met.

Our other dog, Jazz, is almost two years old, so she's still quite a handful. She's a golden retriever, so she has this natural tendency to grab everything she sees in her mouth and take it to us. She pretty much learned to fetch on her own. The difficult part is getting her to let go of whatever it is she's holding, be it a ball, a shoe, socks, the television remote... She's also still a little bit jumpy. She's been that way ever since she was a puppy, but when we got her, she had to go on an airplane, and she was all alone for hours, without her mother or litter mates, and she was only eight weeks old. D8 We think that might be a bit of why she's so jumpy. She's very nervous around strangers, too, but once she sees that they're not going to hurt anyone, she's very sweet. Once she's grown up a bit she is going to be a wonderful companion (not that she isn't already). ^_^

One of our birds is a bluethroat macaw named Trini. He was kind of a rescue, as he was in a breeding program with this other bird who would pluck out the feathers around his eyes, and she would chase him and torment him, and eventually he wouldn't go near the other bluethroats in the program. So my mom bought him several years ago, and he's having a lot of difficulty being happy, I think. I'm pretty much the only person who pays attention to our birds anymore. As long as it's fairly quiet in the room, I can pet him, and he grabs my hand and tries to throw up on me. XDD He gets very jealous of anyone I'm paying attention to. He loves grapes.

Our other bird, Scarlet, was definitely a rescue. My little brother used to go to daycare in our neighborhood, and one day when my mom and I were picking him up we noticed this tiny bird cage in the corner, covered with a towel. We asked if we could see the daycare lady's bird, and when we took the towel off the cage, we were horrified. We had expected to see a few finches or a canary, maybe, but the bird in the cage was a female eclectus parrot, in horrible condition. Her feathers were dirty and didn't look like she'd preened them in forever, her beak was overgrown, a few of her toes were missing nails, and the nails she did have were far too long. We asked the lady why she kept this bird in such a small cage, and why she covered it, and the woman told us that she lets her out a little bit every Friday, and that if she keeps the cage uncovered, the bird makes too much noise. It took a few weeks to convince this woman to give us her bird, but I think in the end she was glad to be rid of her.
That was about six years ago. Today, Scarlet's beak is nice and smooth and short, and she files it down herself now without us having to trim it (certainly traumatizing for the bird). She's still got some ingrown nails, but the other ones are normal, and she preens and has a dish of water she takes baths in. She has free roam, but sticks to her cage and Trini's cage. She doesn't make much noise but sometimes she squeaks. Doesn't like people touching her.

SORRY FOR THE LONG POST. I LOVE ANIMALS. O_O
I've owned birds, dogs, cats, rats, hamsters, rabbits, snakes, mice, guinea pigs, turtles, fish, and lizards. Parrots, dogs, and cats remain my favorites to keep though. Unfortunately, I'm mildly allergic to cats, so I might never be able to keep one for myself. D8

Usagii-sama 05-25-2010 01:23 AM

I have 7 cats.

3 are adults and 4 are about a year-old now.
I'd describe how they look and stuff but because there are seven of them I'd rather show pics instead XD

we have:
Amber (F, 11 years-old)
Daisy (F, 9 years-old, on RT) &
Oreo (M, 7 years-old, on LT)

Token (F, 1 year-old, Orange one) &
Nicco (M, 1 year-old, White one)

Crystal (F, 1 year-old, She is the White one to the far LT, Nicco is to the right of her then Oreo.)
Yuki (F, 1 year-old)

Amber is actually the only Cat we actually adopted from the pet store when she was a kitten. the other 6 are strays, well Daisy and Oreo are anyways.

Daisy showed up 7 years ago with a little baby Oreo on our door step. both of them were starved so we took the in.

Now these 4 kittens (not really kittens anymore but that is how I address them from the rest of the cats) there is a long story behind how we go them. I'll make it short: When their momma (Be-Be) got pregnant with them, their original owner (which is our neighbors) literally kicked Be-Be out and stopped feeding her. We basically let Be-Be stay in our garage and we feed her and gave her water. She finally had her kittens in our garage. We feed them, after about a month, Be-Be's owner wanted her back. we really couldn't do anything at that time so we let her taken Be-Be but we didn't let her have the kittens. load and be hold Be-Be got pregnant again and the neighbor did the same thing all over again. We couldn't handle another litter so one day when the owners weren't home we took Be-Be to the Adoption place in Petsmart and they took her in. We have had the kitten's ever since.

Oh my goodness, I could not finish reading all of your text, TalkingBackwards, I'm sorry. That sucks thought that you're allergic to cats. Do you have any medication to handle it or does it not work for you?

@khboy0:
Aw, I'm sorry you don't have any kitties. I hope one day you can have the joy of owning at least one cat. :)

@Usagii-sama:
Oh wow, your cats are so cute. :D The one named Amber looks like a mix of our two sister kitties, Merry and Pippin, haha.

I have a little menagerie going on at home. I currently have:
Three indian stick insects
Three giant African land snails
One giant African train millipede (Ti)
One carribean land hermit crab (Perry - here with me at uni)
Two cats (Poppy, Lucky)
One dog. (Patch)

I'd love more animals, but thats not going to happen until i have my own house. I plan on having another dog, a couple of cats eventually, and a corn snake.

Aetera 05-25-2010 10:40 AM

I have four cats and one dog. The cats that I have are Melkor, who is the only male cat, Chewbacca(yes, we named a female cat Chewbacca. Shut up. >_> ), Kringle, who is a bit... slow(she's adorable, though), and Nienna, the youngest.

I don't like our dog. He's a black lab/collie mix named Ulmo.

Yes, three of our pets are in fact named after Valar from Tolkien's Silmarillion. I'm a nerd. xD

Amelia Ivanov 05-25-2010 05:18 PM

Wow people have a lot of pets on here o.o; Of course I'd have more if I could, but I move around to much and on top of that, my school doesn't allow pets xD though I do have a cat named Tweety that my sister and mom are taking care of for me currently... I used to have two and they were named Tweety and Sylvester, but unfortunately my dad lost one of them while they were in his care T_T he tried to catch Sylvester before he moved but he couldn't and I was sad because I was like 'HOW COULD YOU LEAVE MY BABY?!' It's the same with my dog though >.> my dad never did like having pets... When I went to college it seemed like he was determined to have my pets 'run away' or something >.>

Oh well, I still have my baby Tweety with whom I cuddle with every time I come home =^.^= She sleeps with me every night whenever I'm home =]

Robard 05-25-2010 06:29 PM

So many menageries!
Usagii, your cats are adorable!

I miss having cats around, but I change locations so often it wouldn't be wise to have any pets...

Snort Like A Pig 05-25-2010 09:15 PM

O_O WOW, YOU HAVE A LOT OF CATS. cool brah. i wish i could have pets but my parents hate animals in the household.

KaoKitty 05-25-2010 09:56 PM

I'm a bit more of a cat person.

I have two. A 9 year old calico, Maxine and a 4 year old gray tabby, Ichigo, who is currently deciding to bury herself under my blanket.
Max lives with my mom just because she is more attached to her and doesn't really get along with Ichigo.

I also have a betta named Harris. ^^

Yullei 05-26-2010 12:41 AM

I have 3 dogs and 1 cat.

Once of my dogs, Rex, (how original I know) likes to chew on my newspaper. >.< He's a small, brown yorkie ^^. My other dog, Scruffy, is a snauzer (sorry for the spelling) and he sleeps and eats. That's it... My third dog is called Sadie, recently got :D She's puppy Shih Tzu (again sorry for the spelling) and she likes to sleep on my socks and chase a cotton ball.

My cat, she's black with a white splotch on her back. Her appearance got her the name "Oreo" ^^ She's 8 now, and likes to sleep under the bed.

itachiluvr4eva 05-26-2010 01:21 AM

I have three cats right now.

Sockbaby: A 1 year old long haired tuxedo kitten with a fluffy squirrel tail.
Secret: Sockbaby's mom.
Tiger(or el tigre as I call him all the time): Is an orange tabby I have had since 4th grade. Considering I have been out of school for a few years, he is a pretty old kitty.

Skykittykat 05-27-2010 12:37 AM

I live on a farm so this may take a while but here it goes.

As of right now, I have around thirty cats, the number fluctuates (Sadly) because of births and deaths. Currently there is one litter of kittens. They're only about a week and a half old but they're cute and their eyes are already open. There is a boy and a girl. The girl is a tortie (tortoise-shell) and the boy is a black tabby with a pure white underbelly and a slightly flat face. The mama's name is Folina, she's a large brown tabby barn cat. She's rather possessive of her babies so whenever I try to take one out she grabs at my wrist to try and stop me.

Out standard poodle, Sophie, is currently pregnant as well. Her babie's will be Possies. Poodle and Aussie (Australian Shepherd) mix. I can't wait to see them and she's roughly due in two to three weeks. We have four Aussie puppies from our female Aussie. The mama's name is Luna and her puppies are Romeo, Torch, Blackbeary, and Yogi. Romeo is a red merel all over like his mother. Torch is white with patchs of red merel coloring on his face, legs and sides. Blackbeary is a black bi, meaning she's black with a white underbelly and face. Yogi is a full blue merel like his father. The father of both Sophie and Luna's puppies is our blue merel aussie male named Scout. We also have three minature Aussies names Cocoa, Brody, Cosmo, and Apple. Cosmo and Apple are Brody and Cocoa's puppies. Apple and Cocoa are both black tris, and Cosmo and Brody are both blue merels.

Out in the fields we have about fifty horses, most of them mares. Recently we have had five foals, all unnamed as of yet. Our mares are usually kept out in the pasture and they've now grown so used to being together that whenever we try to take a mare and her foal out to lead them to the barn the head mare actually charges us to try and keep them out in the pasture.

In our chicken coop we have eight chickens, all unnamed, five ducks, also unnamed, and four rabbits, Opal, Rose, Buttercup, and Big Red. Rose and Opal both just had a litter of rabbit babies each but they were born last week so they're still all scrawny and hairless.

That's a brief overview of my pets.

pinkii 05-27-2010 04:18 AM

That's a lot of cat O:
I have a big fat golden retriever!!! I loves him :3
I also have a betta fish which I intend to keep for 2 years. I've had him for 5 months now (My dog's name is Chewy and my fish's name is BoBo).

Kurai Amaya 05-27-2010 04:37 AM

I just have one doggy named Rudy. We adopted him from the SPCA when he was a year old. He's seriously like the nicest dog ever. He's a mix of some sort. We think he's got some duck toller, lab, beagle... various others, lol.

Keyori 05-27-2010 06:00 AM

Two cats, Hebe and Hermes (both named after Greek gods of course xD)

Hermes is the bigger kitty.

I have two beta fish and two dogs.

The beta fish are mine. The oldest beta fish's name is Pete, and he is dark blue with red fins. I have had him for a year. The other beta fish's name is John. I've had him since last fall. He is all red.

The dogs belong to my dad. The older dog's name is Lincoln. He is about five years old, and he is a yellow lab. We rescued him when he was a puppy. The other dog's name is Tiny Tim, but we call him Tiny. We're not too certain how old he is since we also rescued him. We think he is a chihuahua/terrier mix.

Kay 05-27-2010 03:55 PM

I have currently 5 cats, 2dogs (one border collie and 1 beagle), around 30 chickens, five ducks, and several fish.

Seiki Nova 05-27-2010 06:30 PM

I have two dogs. A german shepherd/chow mix, and a mutt.

It is a lot of cats. xD;
And we have another one outside that always acts like it wants to come in and find a home, but runs away when we get close to it. I think she's an abandoned cat, but she won't stay put when we try to get close enough.

So technically, there are seven cats around, only five of them are ours, one is an abandoned outdoor cat that we've been feeding, and now my cousin's cat is in the house for babysitting during the summer.

FUN. xD;;;
