@Ole - Yummy! Although, my favorite is a nice vanilla cupcake smothered in chocolate frosting! Yummy!

Also, I am lazy, I prefer making whole cakes to cupcakes >_>

Oleaceae 05-27-2010 02:40 AM

Which recipe? lol.

scholar 05-27-2010 02:40 AM

All of 'em!

Oleaceae 05-27-2010 02:41 AM

Um. The chocolate recipe is the first one on google search "Chocolate Cupcake Recipes" on "allrecipes.com".

I'd have to get my cupcake book for the vanilla buttercream if you really want it.

For-Chan Cookie 05-27-2010 02:41 AM

Oh, oh! Are we going to recipe swap? I have some awesome cake recipes. For my favorite tropical coconut cake that has pineapple curd and white chocolate coconut frosting! Or the beer and whiskey chocolate cake I made that was amazingly yummy :D

scholar 05-27-2010 02:42 AM

I love allrecipes! Which cupcake book? I should probably buy it!

HitsuHime 05-27-2010 02:43 AM

I wish I could write fanfinction. I'm really bad at writing. but I apparently have interesting story ideas and interesting characters. I use them to roleplay with instead.
and I'm well behind times and don't have Microsoft Word OTL

For-Chan Cookie 05-27-2010 02:44 AM

@Hitsu - Well, not to sound discouraging, but some people just aren't good at it. I read plenty of really bad fanfiction x_x

But yeah, I don't have Word either XD I use Open Office, because it's free and awesome. I also use Google documents, also free and awesome.

scholar 05-27-2010 02:45 AM

@Hitsu: Fanfic is actually all about learning to write. There are a lot of nice communities out there (just avoid fanfiction.net) for various fandoms. Livejournal's really great, too. You could try downloading OpenOffice, which is like Microsoft Office except free and open source.

For-Chan Cookie 05-27-2010 02:45 AM

@Scholar - Fanfiction.net always gets such a bad rap. But there's plenty of good stuff there. Just a lot of crap too XD

Oleaceae 05-27-2010 02:47 AM

It was given to me.
"Cupcake Heaven" is the book.
Lol.

For the cake:
1 stick unsalted butter at room tempurture
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 cup self-rising flour
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
2 tbsp milk

Preheat oven 350 F

Beat butter and sugar together in a bowl until pale and fluffy, then beat in the eggs, one at a time. Sift the flour into the mixture and fold in, then stir in the vanilla extract and milk.

Spoon the mixture into the paper liners and bake in the preheated oven for about 18 minutes until risen and golden and a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.

Frosting:
6 tbsp unsalted butter @ room temperature
1 3/4 Cups of confectioners' sugar, sifted
1 tbsp milk
1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract

Put the butter in a bowl and beat until smooth and creamy. Add the sugar, milk, and vanilla extract and beat together until smooth and creamy.

Makes 12 cupcakes

Woosh.

scholar 05-27-2010 02:47 AM

@For-chan: True -- it's simply too big to make it easy to find the good stuff. My stuff is archived there (under a totally different name I'm not going to share), and I don't think it's bragging to say that it's quite decent. But I know a lot of writers who pulled out of ff.net a few years ago. There was a good reason, an outcry, and I can't remember why.

@olea: OMG THANK YOU!!! *cuts and pastes*

HitsuHime 05-27-2010 02:48 AM

I'm one of those people that aren't exactly good at writing. my flow with words is horrible? and My grammar and punctuation is like a nightmare come true. ._. yet I still got good scores on my writing assessments ._.

I'll try to get it and see if my laptop decided to cooperate and not constantly Die on me. Oh Livejournal I liek it. Oh yeah Fanfiction.net is pretty bad...I do have like one or two stories up under Bleach which I think I'm going to delete...yeah...delete...

For fanfic I think it will get better with all of the new gadgets it has but I personally have not much interest for it.

For-Chan Cookie 05-27-2010 02:50 AM

@Ole - You lost me at self-rising flour. =/ They should just tell you how much baking soda and salt they want in it! *pokes recipe* Do it properly! XD

@Scholar - My stuff is there too. I tend to only read by recommendation on ff.net. It's too frustrating to slog through the crap. I started reading on the Archive of Our Own lately.

@Hitsu - As in all things, practice is good. It won't make it perfect, but it will make it better. :D

scholar 05-27-2010 02:50 AM

@Hitsu: Ack, an old computer can be really frustrating. I've had to upgrade every few years just to make sure I can keep working. Since I work with video in my scholarship, sometimes the software for editing stuff upgrades to a new version not compatible with my system. Grrr. As for writing, my opinion is that it's like learning an instrument or getting into a sport: you just got to work at it every day. And if it's not something that draws you to it, that makes you want to work hard to get good at it, then it's totally not worth the hours spent. :P

Oleaceae 05-27-2010 02:50 AM

Reading over that recipe makes me lol.
I don't think I've ever actually folded the batter. I use the kitchen-aid mixer. LOL.

scholar 05-27-2010 02:51 AM

@For-chan: great minds... *rofl*

@Olea: KITCHEN AID MIXER FTW!!! I got one as a birthday/christmas present this year (sucks having a january birthday) and used it obsessively for a few weeks before it went to live on the bookshelf next to the kitchen counter. It does take up space, but it's so wonderful to have.

Oleaceae 05-27-2010 02:52 AM

It's amazing.

And...

I have a recipe for self rising flour, too:
4 cups of flour
2 teaspoons of salt
2 tablespoons of baking powder

Combine all ingredients; store in a tightly covered can or jar
Makes 1 pound of self-rising flour.

scholar 05-27-2010 02:53 AM

And meanwhile, I've been trying to figure out what sort of gold accessory would go well on top of my avi's head, as suggested by... oh dear, who was it? several pages ago.

Oleaceae 05-27-2010 02:53 AM

Which reminds me that I have to make self-rising flour tomorrow, too. x3

For-Chan Cookie 05-27-2010 02:53 AM

@Ole - The aforementioned Tropical Coconut Cake is made from scratch with cake flour and you have to separate six eggs, construct the batter with the yolks and then whip up the whites. Then you have to carefully fold them in, and you do have to fold them. OMG! So tedious! I thought my hand would fall off x_X But the cake is so amazingly worth it!

I want a big stand mixer so badly. It is my dream!

Also, I am not a fan of self-rising flour. I'd rather just mix the required ingredients into regular flour so I have exactly what I need instead of random proportions. I'm anal about that in my backing. Because baking is a science!

HitsuHime 05-27-2010 02:55 AM

Oh yeah.. practice makes better I know...I'm just not the best with patience. and well electronics don't like me in general... I've killed one laptop. quite a few mp3 players and then out of the blue my parents buy me an ipod knowing my bad habit with electronics. yet my room is practically filled with electronic devices OTL

Oleaceae 05-27-2010 02:55 AM

You could calculate it out if you wanted too.
Lol.
I just make the stuff from scratch and use it.

Naoto-chan22 05-27-2010 02:56 AM

*jumps in*
Yo ^_^

Oleaceae 05-27-2010 02:56 AM

Nao. <3
