There's no notice or anything, they just happen to pop up in your inventory... I don't donate until I have a set of twelve. Right now I'm at 10 gears and 10 flowers.

So you don't get the item for donating unless you donate them in a big stack of at least twelve? The donated items don't accumulate to get the item?
