I find it really difficult to read things that aren't written in proper grammar. And it's hard even to process things that are written in excessive third-person point of view.

Yeah, I guess so. But I always thought that English was English, and there was a 'right' way to speak it and a 'wrong' way to speak it.

ah true true, when Sora went to Japan for japanese class trip, Sora thought that with the japanese language, but the japanese kept saying, just talk, don't think about as right or wrong XDD

Well yes, when studying a foreign language you should just talk without worrying about making mistakes--that way you can practice and -be- corrected if you /do/ make a mistake. But there's still a wrong way to speak and a right way to speak. Otherwise, what would the point of having a class for it be--just talk and you get an A, right? No. You make mistakes, you get your grade marked down.
Also, this is English. Not Japanese. Nor is it funny for you to imply that I'm old. I'm about the same age as you, and I still think that it's important to speak properly. After all, if we didn't have a manner of standardisation to the language, it wouldn't be a language and we wouldn't be able to understand each other. Some mistakes can -entirely- change what you're trying to say. |

but there are so many ways that people talk in english, what makes which one proper English as a fact? slang, hillbilly talk, trucker talk, third person, first person, or English from england english?

English is taught in school for a reason. That is 'proper', that is the standard, and that is the way it is meant to be spoken. All the rest is doing it wrong, and doing it wrong intentionally is like putting your clothes on inside out and then getting surprised when people laugh at you.

I'm certainly not trying to be rude, and I'm definitely not trying to argue. I just don't understand how someone can 'feel differently' about a fact. What if I 'felt' that this site was named Yumeh-Land?
That and it makes my eyes and brain hurt to try and read bad grammar and chatspeak. That's why I play on Menewsha instead of other places, but if this is going the way of Gaia I guess I ought to find a different site to hang out on. |

Ah. I...really can't understand that sentence. But it's all right. ^^; I mean it's not like he's been trying to rile anyone. Except for when he started saying very rude things about me, but meh. I'm not too bothered about that, and if the worst he can do is call me 'old', then I guess I'm all right.
