It isn't, but that is life the the poorer people.
We had to put our dog down, but she was 11 human years, had arthritis, was going blind, and had bad ticks and fleas. She was in a lot of pain. |
@Siri: I completed my first year, but my depression has necessitated a break.
|
@dragonness: No it's not. You just shouldn't get animals.
Sorry, but this really bugs me. I don't understand your thought process. |
I feel that it is much kinder to put down an animal who is in pain.
Sometimes I wish we could do that for ourselves, when the time comes. |
@steel: Oh, I'm so sorry! I'm starting Vet School next year, so that's why I was asking.
I know it's really tough--my roommate just finished her first year as well. |
Oops, activated my power hour...
|
It's miserable. It's hard to make friends, and you will have no life.
I wish you luck, though. Perhaps you will handle it better than I did. |
It is hard to keep from happening.
I know that the power hour button is so easy to accidentally push when you are trying to go to the shed. |
@ Siri - I take care of my pets when I have them, providing for their basic needs, but do not have the money for the "extras" including vet visits and shots.
Pets are great companions. If they get slightly sick, we just hope that they live through it, if not then what is is what is. If they are in really bad pain and missery, then the best thing to do is relieve them of that pain and suffering. Which that is normally only when they are really old and had a full life. |
@Siri: Hon, I think you may want to lighten up a bit on the subject. It's getting a bit much. And if you do go into private practice, you will have to deal with people who can't afford their pets regularly. Diplomacy works a bit better.
|
There are so many cats that are out on the street.
I think it is wonderful for people to try and help out to take care of them. |
@dragoness: There's nothing wrong with putting animals down when they're suffering. I have no problem with that--obviously I agree with that.
My problem is that you're adopting animals when you can't provide for their basic needs. Shots and an occasional vet visit is not 'extra'--it's something that you should plan for before getting a pet. @steel: You know, I'm just going to go ahead and argue my point. This isn't real life--I'm very good at dealing with clients and I would never have hit on this topic at my local vet clinic. But someone has to say it online where there's anonymity and I don't have to worry about losing business because of the truth. |
Yeah, all but the oldest cat is adopted from the street. The oldest cat was adopted from the animal shelter.
@ Siri - I consider it extra. At least the vet visits. The few basic shots may be more of a good thing to have. |
Okay, new topic.
Is anyone listening to some neat music right now? |
I am listening to silence.
|
Alright Siri. Just some friendly advice, is all.
In all honesty, though, a street cat is going to have to fight for food and is likely to have a miserable life. And they certainly weren't going to get shots, parasite prevention, or health checkups. So how much different is it? Edit: Sorry, missed the new topic memo. Currently still watching river monsters. But I am totally going to have to get the Prince of Persia soundtrack. Alanis Morrisett did a great job with it. |
I like those points, Steel.
|
How many people are in their power hours right now?
|
I am. ^_^
|
I'm also in my power hour. :)
|
Yay for the Power Hour feature! ^_^
|
Then we need to keep posting, and I propose we come up with a nice safe subject.
I just ate some watermelon this evening. |
Yeah, don't worry. I already stopped responding to the last topic, even though they brought it back up.
|
I am in the mood for a salad, but I am probably going to bed in an hour, so I don't really need anything to eat.
@ Siri - I ended talking about it now too. |
That's weird. I just had to reactivate my power hour. D:
