It is for a NSF 9National Science Foundation) grant that we received for furthering women and minorities in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) areas.

It's nice that I can set my own hours, but I would rather be at home! ^^;

That sounds really cool actually, as does the setting you own hours part.

Hey, Teamsters! Am sneaking some chat in during my open office hours. Only one student came to ask how his grade was doing, and fortunately I could tell him that if he aced the final and did the extra credit, he could still (barely) pull an A. Poor kid -- a science major in a music history class. They all think it'll be an easy A, but then they realize they actually have to use their brains.

Nifty ninja.
That sounds like me when I took a drawing class.
What exactly does a Music History course entail?

It has been sunny today. (:

Blargh, I was born in the Winter and excess heat will always be my enemy, to my hair, and my being, lol.
But I'm glad you're getting sunshine.

That's such a great thing to be doing! I initially started college as an astrophysics major, but the competition for summer jobs was really fierce, and none of the labs were interested in me. I'm doing better in my new field, now.

Wow! ^^; I can imagine that those jobs would get taken faster than hot cakes!
I was really lucky. I tried for an opportunity to work abroad in China but I didn't get accepted. I was going to apply for Google's Summer of Code, but I couldn't find a topic to submit and it was a hellish week to do an application (3+ exams and projects due and...).

I love music and History!
Also, speaking of Music and stuff... I'm dating a decendant of Johann Sebastian Bach. Not kidding. Really, his name's O'Malley Bach. He's on the internet. First picture on Google if you type in his name in Images. XD
I was excited when I could actually get a reference picture of him for a painting i'm doing...

Are you with him in some of the pictures? O:

Really? O:
Cool~ My boyfriend got his DNA tested. He's really a legit Bach. XD It's pretty awesome, because he composes for me... <3

@Popcorn: Well, it involves listening to music, learning about history, putting the two together and drawing conclusions about what caused what, how we use music today -- there's as much sociology in the study as there is history and analysis.

@Milady: DNA testing is so cool. One of my distant relations tested his and found out that we can trace our roots back to Mesopotamia. o.O

Urbeth 06-02-2010 06:33 PM

You look like a lovely couple. (:

Chickie Nuggs 06-02-2010 06:35 PM

Indeed you guys do! :)

Milady Purity 06-02-2010 06:35 PM

Awwh, thanks~ That was Sophmore Semiformal XD

scholar 06-02-2010 06:36 PM

@Milady: Cute kid! (Though I think I'm biased by the fact that he's standing someplace where it's obviously very cold.)

----------

Hey, demo! How have you been?

Chickie Nuggs 06-02-2010 06:38 PM

O heya Anime!
I've been good. I'm just keepin an eye on my spanner/gears count while sipping coffee and watching Coneheads. I love that movie...

How have you been? Good I hope.

Urbeth 06-02-2010 06:40 PM

Gotta go for my meeting! XP

scholar 06-02-2010 06:41 PM

Stupid computer getting old -- had to Force Quit both Firefox and the Dock, for some reason. I need a new laptop!

----------

@demo: I've been okay. The quarter is finally winding down, though I did get a stack of 40 papers to grade by next Tuesday, and they have their final exam on Wednesday (3 short essays...), so it's a lot of grading to do in a short period of time. But my own writing obligations are now minimal, just one 8-page paper left, on Kiki's Delivery Service.

bye, Urbeth! See you later tonight, I hope?

Chickie Nuggs 06-02-2010 06:43 PM

Cya Urbeth.

That sucks, anime. Geez, you are stuffed with work.

That just sounds like a lot, lol, not that it doesn't sound interesting, but it does seem like you'd have to put a good deal of work into it.
I just want to know how could anyone could ever think that is a cake course?

Oh, compared with other quarters, this is minimal. In the fall quarter I had 60 students, and there were three essays, an essay+scantron midterm, and a longer essay+scantron final. LOADS of grading. Plus the two pop quizzes.

So this quarter, 40 essays to grade, is easy.

Chickie Nuggs 06-02-2010 06:47 PM

Oooh, you're an instructor! It all makes sense, now.

scholar 06-02-2010 06:47 PM

@demo: Well, I'm a Teaching Assistant. So I don't make up the exams or assignments, but I grade them and run Friday discussion sections to review and explain material in more depth.

Chickie Nuggs 06-02-2010 06:50 PM

Hmm, I guess you're still a pupil, in a way.
I used to wonder about what it would be like if I taught Art. It seemed interesting, but I hear that it takes a lot of work to get that kind of job as teacher.
