I have Chrome too... I use it for quick surfing and stuff... especially now that it has StumbleUpon

They use different engines, so FireFox is much much faster, and has much more site compatibility.
Security, IE is basically Windows' way of letting anything download without your knowing, and that's a bad thing.
Features, FireFox has many more features than IE at this point.
You'll have a vast library of plugins to choose from for FireFox. (For security, you can look up and try out AdBlock Plus, NoScript, Ghostery, TACO, Web of Trust, YSlow.)

IE8 takes longer to load into memory but if you keep it open it can be quicker.

Firefox can let you download just about anything as well; it all comes down to settings.

Firefox does not really have more features than IE8 (a web browser should not have a lot of features anyway); what it does have are plugins.

Chrome takes longer for page navigation but has a faster JavaScript engine. Also, it's not as secure as Firefox.

12 minutes of power hour.

Yeah... it came on my computer though and I do use java stuff a lot.

Flux 06-04-2010 01:03 AM

Opera development focuses on compatibility.

Mozilla (Firefox and SeaMonkey) development focuses on security.

IE8 and Chrome development focuses on catching up with the others.

Chrome/Chromium also doesn't allow a lot of things, like the full potential of Ghostery. xD

*bounces in* Saving up gears/flowers/spanners for a power hour later!

Java and JavaScript are different. In my opinion, Java (applets) on web sites are very bad thing. JavaScript is common on most sites these days, much to my dismay.

Java applets and JavaScript both execute on your computer (not the server giving you the file), but Java applets require a plugin to play (similar to Flash), whereas all modern browsers have a built-in JavaScript engine which processes the JavaScript.

It's still too new to be very useful.

Rad Lionheart 06-04-2010 01:07 AM

Google isn't going to allow Ghostery to block trackers though, ever.

I'm quite sad no browser has the capability yet to block a part of a page which I can configure (I would block any URL which have "google" in the domain).

Rad Lionheart 06-04-2010 01:17 AM

I can block Google trackers on FireFox using Ghostery.

Flux 06-04-2010 01:17 AM

@Anime_Scholar: How do you manage to appear offline and still post?
