The Landover and Shanara books were pretty good.

Oh god I cant count how many times I have had an audio book in and have had to skip back half a chapter! xD

Terry Brooks is my favorite author so I am actually a bit sad that I read all his Landover and Shanara series.

jazz: Haha I was about the recommend the Word & Void trilogy, but apparently that is part of the Shannara sequence? That is totally news to me! When I read them, I didn't see any connection... so clearly I have fallen behind.

Have you read any Trudi Canavan, I enjoyed her Black Magician Trilogy. (oh gosh, there is another series, but all my books are at my parent's house... so I can SEE the covers, but can't remember the names).

Has anyone here read the "So you want to be a wizard" series by Diane Duane? That is one of my favorites. Also the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik.

If you read the set starting with Armagedons Children you will understand. Terry said he had no plans on entwining the series but it ended up happening! xD

I'll have to look into Black Magician. The name sounds interesting. And "So you want to be a Wizard" sounds familiar but I don't think I have read it.

Most definitely want to second the recommendation for the Temeraire series--after hearing the books recommended a million times I finally borrowed them last summer and they are fantastic.

I enjoyed the first "So you want to be a wizard" book, but I have yet to read the others...

@Slowtrain -- I've tried audio books, and it was hard for me to enjoy the storie for some reason, though I loved the authors and the narrators were very good. They sold used for more than I paid for them, though, so all was good. =D

jazz: Haha I would hope he didn't intend on combining them, since the tone is very different. I will definitely have to go back to it now!

Robard: Yay another Temeraire fan! I love the world building throughout the whole series. :) (And it helps that Naomi is a total sweetheart IRL too, lol) And I highly recommend the rest of the Wizard series.

fiarra- I know I was kind of surprized since I wasn't all that fond of his Word and Void series to be honest. The new books were amazing though!

Knerd- That's what I did with the Harry Potter books when I was re-reading them for a refresher before reading the last two books.

Sometimes I find audio books incredibly amusing. Especially when a guy is trying to do female voices and failing utterly at it. xD

I've read all the "So You Want to Be A Wizard" books up through "Wizards at War," but I don't know if Duane has written any more. I know she was working on a new one, last I checked. I like them a lot.

I've read the Black Magician series too! Highly recommended, and I heard that Canavan wrote another trilogy that's a continuation, with the son as the main character.

An author I personally loooovvveee is Meredith Anne Pierce, who wrote the Darkangel Trilogy. Her Firebringer Trilogy is more popular and geared toward younger readers. But I love the world she has created in The Darkangel. I'm not sure how her writing is dry, but that's one of the critiques. I was personally really sucked in, she's so imaginative!

sunrain: The newest book A Wizard On Mars, was published a few months ago. I haven't read it though... waiting for the paperback. xD

I loved the Firebringer series by M. A. Pierce.

I also love the books by Tamora Pierce. I have read her Lioness Quartet books, and should read some more of hers.

I don't think so? I only just got into sci-fi really. fantasy is just still my ultimate favorite.

I think I'm into sci-fi more so than fantasy. I took a class called Fairy Tales, Fantasy, and Science Fiction and I did love The Hobbit by Tolkein (second read) it was better for me the second time around (guess that's usually the case with books). I also had to reread Martian Chronicles by Bradburry. I was utterly lost when I read it the first time (about 14 years ago o_O) but it made more sense the second go round. The separate stories may allude to another but they are not really connected...that's what screwed me, but I love it.

The first two times I tried to read Dune, I stopped in the middle of the first chapter because it was so weird.

I LOVE the Darkangel Trilogy! I found in randomly in the library back in middle school because I was looking for Tamora Pierce books, and I've been hooked on them every since. I've been rereading them lately because I've finally gotten around to getting my own copies. It's been a while, so it's almost like reading them for the first time, since I've been noticing all these new details in them. I hadn't realized just how much those books had influenced me, but now I can see echos of that world in my own writing.

It seems to be such an obscure trilogy though, which makes me really sad; used bookstores almost never have them, and even Powells only had the first two, and I've never met anyone else who's even heard of them until I tell them about it.

I loved Tamora Pierce's books when I was younger! My sister has all of them now, but every so often I'll pick one up for a quick read. :)

Speaking of quick reads, I read The Hunger Games last night (as in.... I picked it up and 4 hours later I realized it was over lol). Excellent book. I will be looking for the 2nd next time I am at the store.

And now I will sit and be ashamed that I have not read any of the books that have been featured on page 1 of the thread.
