Yeah. It is painful. I hope it is better very soon.

Shadami 05-29-2010 01:18 PM

I saw the other thread on here and picked up the challenge back in April. Sadly I've only read 6 books since than. Oh well. I'll speed it up as soon as I get my move done.

Oh and if you are looking for Sci-fi, I highly recommend Ender's Game and the other Ender books. They are quite amazing.

Angel Spirit Girl 05-29-2010 01:26 PM

I am more into fantasy myself, but I don't turn my nose up at things that are something else.

Guivre 05-29-2010 04:06 PM

Ender's Game came highly recommended from a good friend of mine, so I really want to get around to that series at some point.

I just started reading How It Ends, which so far is talking about lifespans and actuaries and such, but is supposed to get around to how the universe will end.

Shadami 05-29-2010 08:25 PM

i'm a fantasy reader myself, so i was shocked when i picked up Ender's game and couldn't put it down. XD my boyfriend was like "oh your reading? here read this" put it in my hands and i finished it in by the next day pretty much.

Guivre 05-29-2010 08:27 PM

Nice. I like books that transcend genders. I'm not a huge chick-lit fan, but I see myself fall into it sometimes.

Shadami 05-30-2010 03:46 AM

transcend genders? like both male and female will read and love?

tirethminet 05-30-2010 04:17 AM

that would be the meaning. ;3

fiarra 05-30-2010 06:08 AM

:') I should have poked in here earlier, all the books you're talking about are ones that I hold near and dear to my heart.

The Ender's Game series is one of my absolute favorites. And Anne McCaffrey's Pern series pretty much defined my life in 8th grade. :)

Shadami 05-30-2010 06:13 AM

i haven't gotten around to the pern series yet but my dad and my best friend rant about it constantly. XD

fiarra 05-30-2010 06:44 AM

Haha I basically ate my way through them in 8th and 9th grade. I stopped reading them about she started co-writing with her son though.

Flux 05-30-2010 07:06 AM

Orson Scott Card's "Treason" is interesting.

As an author, Michael Stackpole is a believable author with a sense of realism in combat.

Angel Spirit Girl 05-30-2010 02:09 PM

I will have to check out Ender's Game, then.

Garth Nix's Sabriel was very good. I should get to finishing Leriel - the sequel to it.

Robard 05-30-2010 02:44 PM

I very much enjoyed the Abhorsen books. Have you read any of his other stuff? I've been partway through the Key to the Kingdom series for quite a while now... I should really track down the rest of it.

*picks through thread for more recommendations*

Angel Spirit Girl 05-30-2010 02:49 PM

I have the first several of the Keys to the Kingdom books, but have not read them yet.

Knerd 05-30-2010 02:50 PM

The Abhorsen trilogy is a great YA series. I loved those when I was in middle school. But I've found that much of Nix's other writing falls flat. The Ragwitch was pretty awful, and Shade's Children really didn't impress me. I think that he invested so much time in creating the Old Kingdom that it became difficult for him to branch out into other worlds.

slowtrain 05-30-2010 02:51 PM

hey guys, what's happening in here?

I'm doing a 50 book challenge this year, but I'm aiming for 65... not sure if I'll get there, but I got to around 60 last year ^^

Angel Spirit Girl 05-30-2010 02:59 PM

He did d well in detailing the Old Kingdom. It takes a while to do something like that world building, so no wonder other books with less work on that aspect fall short.

jazzkitteh 05-30-2010 03:11 PM

I just started my first 50 book challenge the start of this month! I am on my 7th book already. xD

Any recommendations in the fantasy genre? I'm gonna run out of Wheel of Time books eventually and I have nothing planned once I finish them...

slowtrain 05-30-2010 03:15 PM

I'm about to start the third in the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, but that's not really fantasy...

um... all I can think of is the Chronicles of Chrestomanci series by Diana Wynne Jones right now, but they're middle grade...

Angel Spirit Girl 05-30-2010 03:18 PM

Young Adult fantasy is some of the best stuff! ^u^

I should finish the last Harry Potter book, too.

slowtrain 05-30-2010 03:19 PM

yeah, I love young adult fiction, it's what I read the most
Chrestomanci is a bit younger than young adult though...

have you read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, jazz?

jazzkitteh 05-30-2010 03:20 PM

I loved the last Harry Potter book. I thought it was really good. ^__^

Hitchkichers books sound amusing. There not the type of book I normally read but I have been known to enjoy other genres. I just might check them out.

I read all of Terry Brooks Landover and Shanara series and am craving something along those lines.

slowtrain 05-30-2010 03:22 PM

Deathly Hallows was awesome, it's my favourite of the series
I'm a huge Harry Potter nerd

you should definitely check out the Hitchhiker's, it's hilarious ^^

jazzkitteh 05-30-2010 03:25 PM

I think I will as soon as I finish The Wheel of Time and Chronicles of Narnia series. =D

Do you think Audio books should count? xD I like to listen to them sometimes while I draw. LOL!
