I am kinda getting it: You get the tools by just chatting and having them donated and going to the shed. You get seeds by doing missions and fixing your team's machine. I only have 1 credit so I am not sure how to get those. The FAQ page wouldn't load for me so I had to figure this out by asking folks.

You can get credits by chatting but it's rare. The most efficient way to get credits is by trading seeds for them in the Hangar.
