ooh, sounds like a  worthy population!

Cicadetta 06-05-2010 08:34 PM

Okay, cool, Facade. "Asian" is pretty general, so I was curious.

Twisted Insanity 06-05-2010 08:34 PM

Ooh. Sounds like fun.

Facade 06-05-2010 08:37 PM

 worthy?

Well, they all pretty much have amazing food. We have an annual/biannual Greek Affair, which is basically a Greek festival. And lots of Greek pizza joints... Tons of baklava, to say the least! :P

We also have an Armenian food store, a Euro-Market, blah blah blah. It's a pretty diverse area, I guess, although there's still the typical white-man-fever of racist attitudes and difference-fearing freakishness. Which I don't like one bit. :gonk:

@Cica: The Asians I hang out with most frequently refer to themselves as Asians, so I guess the word's rubbed off on me. :P None of them are country-specific in their social circles, so I guess that's why. They're just a big grouping of "Asians" - although in their circle there aren't any Indians. :(

Jeannesha 06-05-2010 08:38 PM

lol.... but the pictures are a REQUIREMENT of a prom, Facade!
Sheesh....

They're more for the parents now, but later, when you're old and grey like me, you'll be glad to have them.

Kat Dakuu 06-05-2010 08:39 PM

*packs her bag* I'm going to visit facade! that sounds fabulous there!

Jeannesha 06-05-2010 08:40 PM

Was everything glowy in the darky, Facade?

Facade 06-05-2010 08:42 PM

No, Jeanne, it wasn't! :gonk:
The closest to glow in the dark it came was that the whole prom place (it was at a hotel) was dark. So we couldn't really see much.

And then the after-prom was Wizard of Oz-themed, since that was our musical this year and I suppose it was the easiest to do, considering that they reused all of the backdrops and whatnot. :P

Cicadetta 06-05-2010 08:43 PM

There was an after-party party, Facade? How does that work? oO

Kat Dakuu 06-05-2010 08:43 PM

our prom was kinda lame actually. it was the first prom our school ever had. the after party was AWESOMe though!

Facade 06-05-2010 08:45 PM

Well, the prom for us is held at some hotel, and then the after-prom (which is free, optional, and runs from 12AM-4AM... and you're not allowed to leave once you get there) is held at our school, in our gyms. :P

Jeannesha 06-05-2010 08:45 PM

They do things now in high schools like School Lock-Down nights.
Where the students stay in the school the entire night, and they have all sorts of things going on.

Kat Dakuu 06-05-2010 08:46 PM

ours wasnt at school, but at the huge indoor part of our new football stadium and we had inflatables and bungie jumping and stuff. it wasn't free either.

Cicadetta 06-05-2010 08:46 PM

Facade, the after-prom sounds like more fun than the prom, actually!

Jeanne, I remember lock-ins! The drama club at my high school put them on, and I went to two of them! Good memories...

Facade 06-05-2010 08:47 PM

Yeah, that's basically what it was, Jeanne!

Although a ton of schools in the area still let the kids leave whenever they want...

In my eyes, the whole idea is pretty ineffective. I mean, if someone is going to go out and drink and their only other option besides drinking is to go to a sober party for four hours, which would they choose? Drinking, obviously. Whether or not the party is a lock-down thing just seems trivial to me. Let the tired people leave early, y'know? :|

Kat Dakuu 06-05-2010 08:48 PM

we weren't allowed to leave and a few people slept in the hallways. its a very very big all purpose gym with like....4 gyms. I dont' know why you'd want to leave though!

Cicadetta 06-05-2010 08:49 PM

Or they could compromise, Facade, and let people bring sleeping bags and stuff, provide a quiet supervised napping area for them?

Jeannesha 06-05-2010 08:49 PM

Usually area stores donate stuff to be raffled off all during the night.
Things like that to entice the kids to stay the entire time.

Kat Dakuu 06-05-2010 08:50 PM

I won my camcorder from the aftr party. ^_^

Facade 06-05-2010 08:59 PM

I got a $25 gift card from TD Bank... that's about it. :P

There were two or three TVs given away, but it was primarily a gift card. $25 isn't bad, though!

(We also got a voucher for a free hoagie from a chain of convenience stores around here, and also some $5 off gift certificate for Bed Bath & Beyond. And some chintzy orange plastic mug. :gonk: )

My brother graduated last year, and his after-prom was a lot better. More prizes given away, bigger prizes, too. I think the economy hit our grade the hardest, despite the milestone fundraising we've done over the years. :(

Kat Dakuu 06-05-2010 09:01 PM

I did the money catching box thing and won a giant mug from buckeys. -__- real useful eh? my brother won a tv at his after prom.

Jeannesha 06-05-2010 09:03 PM

Boy, back in the day, we didn't have any of this cool stuff.

We made paper flowers to decorate the gym, some watery punch, and the Moms baked cookies.

Somebody played records, and we paraded around the gym so the parents could all take pictures. Then we danced.

That was about it.

Kat Dakuu 06-05-2010 09:08 PM

okay, I'm finally out of spanners.

Cicadetta 06-05-2010 09:08 PM

I think I'm done buying commons. Probably.

Kat Dakuu 06-05-2010 09:09 PM
