I usually have to plot out what I'm going to paint in thumbnails. Some of my paper is too expensive to waste (I waste enough messing up!). Dick Blick just had to have a half-off sale on Arches that one time. >>;
|
hm, I'm so good at winging things though. I dunno. I get an image in my head and just run with it. I'll draw it out, then trace it onto nice paper and make it up from there.
ooh, ya! I go my painting uploaded. the colors look better in real life I swear. linkie |
Kat: Some people do just wing it all the time. I have to plan stuff, though. xD;;
Most natural media stuff looks better in real life, sadly. ;O; I wish there was a decent way to get good images of natural media. >> It looks like the greens would be really vibrant in person. *_* I tend to shy away from green for some reason, I'm not sure why. |
my camera kinda fails. its real cheap (free actually) but yeah, its all i have to upload my art.
ooh, I absolutely love my blues and blue greens!! I think prussian blue is my favorite color. O__o I just looked, the sketch pad I'm using is light weight paper for dry media only... |
Prussian blue is a nice one. *thumbs up* I also like using cerulean blue for a brighter blue. :>
Oh my, that means the paper might buckle if you use a lot of water. D: Be careful with it! When you do a layer of colour, let it fully dry before adding another, usually it helps keep buckling from happening unless you stretch the paper before hand. |
I don't have cerulean. I have cobalt and prussian blue. I think I have cerulean in my acrylics. i had to buy certains colors for my class.
:( I used up my nicer pad of paper but at least my painting only got a little wrinkly. its only noticeable if you hold of up to the light. I'll have to be real careful until I buy more paper. oh! I think I have a pad of bristol board in my closet somewhere! I'll use that next time. |
I'm not sure if bristol board is used for watercolours? Usually it's too slick of a surface for me. I think most people use it for markers and coloured pencils. Although if you used watercolour pencils, that might just work. :D
|
i think the paper has some tooth and at least its thick and I already have it. I had to buy it for a design class but we didn't use it for the most part. *searches thought her closet for stuff* I-I think my closet ate an entire 18" by 24" pad of drawing paper um.....
|
Oh, o.k. There's a couple of different type of bristol. I tend to end up finding only the slick kind. ><;
Whaaa. EVIL CLOSET, SPIT IT BACK OUT! D8< |
I have whatever they sell at school.
ya! I found heaps of stuff!! I need to use some of this stuff before I forget again that I have it. two pads of good drawing paper and some pastel paper!! omg, I found a box of oil pastels!! there's a reason I have all this in my closet...i'd over run my room. |
Ah, I gotcha. My schools really weren't big on selling art supplies. It was nice when I was in Queens; a short metro trip and one had access to a lot of art stores. *sigh*
Hahaha. Your closet is your secret stash for art supplies. ;D Better than having them all over the house like me, I guess. xD |
being austin, there was a decent amount of art supplies but they were often out of the exact things I needed. there's a hobby lobby not far away too but I don't have a car and I am NOT walking across the high way!
for reals. my mom would kill me if it was all over the house. I don't think she understands why I have so much. |
Ah, yeah, crossing highways isn't a wonderful thing. Scared me to death to get to a bus stop across the road when I was in Queens. X_x Here it isn't so bad, traffic has a lot of lulls most of the time unless the base is changing shifts.
My mom's also did art, so she kind of puts up with it, thankfully. /has paint out in the living room. >> |
I do rather like being home. I have access to a car not that I drive really...I've got a fair stash of stuff though and I figure I might as well use some of it before I find a new interest.
I'm the only one in my family with artist talent. |
My car is usually at the disposal of my mom. She has two jobs, so she gets priority. I haven't driven in months, to be honest. >>;
Both of my parents did art, so when I decided to devote my college education to it, they mainly just wanted to make sure that's what I wanted to do. Looking back, I'm not sure, but I did enjoy a lot of my classes. :3 |
I share a car with my brothers but I actually haven't driven on my own more than once. i really haven't driven since I got my license...
I think my parents are happy that I'm doing art studies but I know my dad thinks its kind of a waste. I come from a family of computer programmers... |
The most I've driven is 3 hours at one time (going to or from uni to home). I really hated driving to the college and then coming back in the same day, though, wiped me out. x_x
Ah, I see. I'm the second, I think, out of my immediate family to get a BA. I'm the only grandchild on my Mom's side so far with one. I really was lucky my parents were supportive of my decision no matter what I chose. Although if I was given the money, I'd probably get another degree in linguistics/foreign languages. Something like that. xD |
Its almost a 3 hour drive to and from my college and my car actually breaks down alot so its not allowed to be driven to either mine or my brother's school. I came home um...4 times this year. its an alright rode to drive on but my mom usually drives me home.
my mom was the first to go to college in her family and only went to college for 2 years. my dad is the computer god hailing from a family of professionals like doctors and engineers. eventually I'll get through college. |
I had a few problems with my car, but after a certain point I basically drove home every weekend. My school had it set up where most people had no classes on Fridays, so there was technically a three day weekend. Usually I managed to not have really early morning classes so I could just wake up a bit early and drive in for class. xD Had a lot of personal stuff happened and I just needed to be home to destress, I guess.
Ah, I see! I didn't have that kind of pressure, luckily. A lot of my family were farmers if one goes back on the family tree long enough. My great-great-grandmother on my mom's side appears to be a kick-ass lady. She had a goat herd, midwifed, grew stuff, and was doing all of it up until she died around 90, I think. xD Think I'm going to head off. It's been fun talking with you, Kat. :> |
hm. I can only get into early morning classes unfortunately. I'm pretty glad to be away from home though. my roommate was pretty horrid last year though. I wish i didn't have class on friday but no go there. I don't have a lot of control over my schedule.
oh wow, that is a pretty kick ass lady. my grandma was like that too. she ran the farm with 4 small children for a while before she married her deceased husbands brother (my grandfather). farmers run in my family. oi, I need to sleep too before I fall asleep on my computer. night! is has been nice chatting! |
