http://softsolder.files.wordpress.co...rifle-toss.jpg color guard

http://www.dancehere.com/wp-content/...ember-2000.jpg gymnastics.

two very different sports. plus color guard is a team event and gymnastic is really a singular event

Arikana 05-28-2010 04:52 AM

Then just get a team event for gymnastics at the Olympics where everyone performs all at the same time.

Kat Dakuu 05-28-2010 04:53 AM

well now that I've finally tricked wingsy into coming here....*whistles innocently*

but they're really nto similar. cg has some gymnastics qalities in it but no

Wings of Writing 05-28-2010 04:54 AM

:feesh:es Kat. i'm still not letting up about the rps. so no playing innocent.

and there are no singular guard events. plus i've never seen that event arikana. plus gymnastic is typically all about bending and flips and folding there really isn't much dance (i used to do gymnastics) while guard is all about tossing and catching your flag, rifle, or sabre and catching it and also about dancing and it's mostly all jazz based dance

Kat Dakuu 05-28-2010 04:57 AM

well, I'll respond I swear but I did want you to come to this thread and I tricked you here like I did to get you to granny's the first time.

waht wingsy said.

Sarasvati 05-28-2010 04:57 AM

It depends, if CG is deemed more art based. If they think it's too much on the art side, they won't allow it, from what I remember of getting sports into the Olympics. D: Ice dancing (and ice skating) get a lot of flack because it straddles the art/sport line.

Tori: That's it! I knew there was a BEAST somewhere in there. Of course, saying that sounds super weird. xD; New Radiancy Group? This is starting to sound like one of those internet naming memes. xD;

Oh wow! I've heard about Lotte and E Mart, but not HomePlus. D: That's really convienent they're by each other so you can price compare easily. :3

nekomorty 05-28-2010 04:57 AM

Mmmm, Udon sounds pretty good right about now.

Arikana 05-28-2010 04:58 AM

You know what? Whatever. I never really liked gymnastics-like events anyways.

I've always been more of a winter sport kind of person, though there are a couple summer sports that I do like. <3

Wings of Writing 05-28-2010 05:00 AM

aww i didn't mean to make you mad Arikana.

and i don't really know Sara. we got both pe and art credit for it in high school. I think it straddles the line too but I don't know why. I swear you get buff being in guard.

Kat Dakuu 05-28-2010 05:01 AM

I wouldn't care if cg got big sports standing but I'd like it to get some notice. most school's that have it, the people don't even know.

Wings of Writing 05-28-2010 05:04 AM

yeah i'd like it to get some notice too though i think it's bigger up north, though i'm not sure. but i think it'd be awesome if it could be an olympic sport

Sarasvati 05-28-2010 05:05 AM

Well, it is physical, but if it's mostly dance-based, then it's going to have a tough, if not impossible, time getting in. Also, it would really depend on whether it's popular on an international level, which I don't think it is. I think most people here associate it with the band during sporting event breaks, or cheerleading.

I mean, wadaiko can get your upper body pretty buff, but I doubt it will ever be considered a sport. xD

Kat Dakuu 05-28-2010 05:05 AM

I would just like to turn the tv on and see it. or like...to have professionals that actually train to do it. there's not really professional teams now.

what's wadaiko?

Wings of Writing 05-28-2010 05:07 AM

It is dance-based but it's so much more than that. And that's another sad thing Sara people don't know the half of what color guard truly is. All they really know is what goes with the band and that is half-ass color guard that is really really simple. We have winterguard and that's when we guards really show off and do tricks.

Kat Dakuu 05-28-2010 05:08 AM

yeah, if only people even know our winter season even existed. its a lot more than dance. I know our guard didn't focus on dance because we were bad at it and some have huge props that are the point of the show

Wings of Writing 05-28-2010 05:09 AM

yeah dance is really only part of guard as a means of making it flow and look pretty. it's all about the equipment.

Kat Dakuu 05-28-2010 05:11 AM

man, maybe I should have posted that zydaco puppet show instead.

Wings of Writing 05-28-2010 05:11 AM

what did you post kat?

I'm not mad. Just honestly too tired to deal with much shiz right now. My eyes are barely open. x.x;

Kat Dakuu 05-28-2010 05:13 AM

aw, maybe ari should go to sleep....

um, I posted our show, melody.

Wings of Writing 05-28-2010 05:14 AM

 aww you should go to sleep arikana.

and yeah you should have posted a world class guard...

oh and it's from the back....

ToriKat 05-28-2010 05:17 AM

Hmmm, I'm sure my high school didn't have a winterguard, just colorguard. *is curious now*

Kat Dakuu 05-28-2010 05:18 AM

I know but I kinda like posting what I've done. ^^

from the back?

Sarasvati 05-28-2010 05:20 AM

I know you guys have personal attachment to it, but I was just saying unless it has a more international standing, it won't have a shot at getting in the summer games. There's already quite a backlog of events wanting to get in, iirc. I honestly don't really hear about colourguard unless it's associated with schools (and mostly high school).

You might have heard the Japanese word for taiko (has some neat pics), and wadaiko refers to the actual traditional drumming act as well as a particular set of drums. I took a class in Japan and there were twenty of us doing various drumming patterns until we were worn out, then the instructors showed off for us and were doing these intricate dances and playing games all while playing music. Also, I want toned arms like these guys. That's what wadaiko can do for you (and, apparently, giving you enough callouses to never get blisters on your hand). xD

Wings of Writing 05-28-2010 05:22 AM

i understand that.

yeah it's not showing the show from the front.

yeah. right now i just want it to get some more acclaim.
