If I had to take a guess on which bird carried such messages, I'd have to say pigeons. They had them carry all sorts of other messages, so it'd make the most sense.

Yeah, same here, Harley. Although I am reminded of another bird related death story, now that you mention it. It relates to the whole Curse of Tutankhamun thing. Apparently/allegedly, when Howard Carter opened the burial chamber (or was it the sarcophagus? perhaps googling is in order), Carter's pet canary was eaten by a cobra (one of the ancient protectors of the king) at the very same time.

I've never heard of that, but that's really awesome, very freaky. I'm really interested in Ancient Egypt as a whole and stories like that just increase the reverence that I have for that period and culture.

Mhm. I've been studying ancient Egypt since I was about 9. I think I first discovered that story at about that age too. Back then I probably would have remembered what it was that he opened. I was a very dedicated little scholar :3

When I was nine.. I was in love with cats. Which did overlap somewhat into Ancient Egypt but not enough. :p

@Harley- I am doing just dandy right now. I got in an debate with my friend over nothing just for fun. I believe it was about salt water vs. chlorinate water in pools.

@Egypt topic- I have studied many things about ancient civilizations since I was a kid. I love to see how they lived.

I've swam in a salt water pool. It was quite nice.
