Classic Computer Games. Play them?
 

I just downloaded a huge stock of classic computer games a little while ago, and I'm sort of walking through a mix of memory lane and awesome retro stuff slightly too old for me.
But like, I'm playing Oregon Trail, and Street Fighter 2.

What games do you remember, have, love, or want to find?

I play the ones I have that work on Windows XP. My 98 computer died...
Among some that I can't get to work are Little Big Adventure and Starshot and I really want to play them again. I got Starshot for N64 but it just isnt as fun as on the pc.
I recently played Wacky Wheels again remembering all the fun me and my siblings had with it :')

I remember playing sim tower on an old mac that our primary school had. But I'm not exactly sure how old it has to be to count as "classic"

Any sim game is classic. xD I used to play this weird one called sim planet. I never quite figured out how it worked.

Street Fighter 2 was amazing. That is like, the definition of Classic computer game. I think I actually have that on my computer somewhere. I should go play it...

Since I met my boyfriend I've gotten into PC gaming pretty heavily. I used to be primarily a console gamer. He has had me play through Deus Ex, StarCraft, a lot of older Total War games and stuff like that. My favorites are still Diablo I and II, Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness, and Black & White 2, and an ancient copy of Ecco the Dolphin for PC that took me and two of my friends an entire summer to beat. The cool thing about the disc was you could pop it in a CD player and hear the soundtrack like a normal album. I also had one called Toonstruck that was really obscure but completely amazing; unfortunately when I upgraded from Win98, it was one of the only games that the compatibility wizard couldn't run in XP. I played Myst too, though it frustrated me to no end. One day I looked up a walkthrough and basically went "There's MORE than one world?! Forget this!" and just gave up. It's been one of maybe two games I never played to completion.

Warcraft 2 is an amazing game. Like, seriously, I love Warcraft 2. It is one of my favourite games of all time, and I loved it way more than the 3rd game.

I still have the WC2 soundtrack on my ipod, the game has such a nice atmosphere.
Ofcourse I did play WC3 and the expansion but it just wasnt fun.

Oh my god, you put the soundtrack on your iPod too? I thought I was the only one who ever did that! Everyone thought I was crazy when I would listen to it!
Warcraft 3 just lost the magic. It turned cartoony and it lost it's ominousness because of that. Adding heroes was silly, and getting rid of the navies was a fail.

I'm wondering where you can download these games? :ninja:
I have an extreme fascination with anything retro/classic, and I've always been fascinated by older games... Especially the older sim games! ...Where can I go about finding 'em? :drool:

Classic eh... well...

Mech Warriors - DOS
Afterlife - Lucas Arts Sim Game - You create heaven/hell
King's Quest - 7 is my favorite
Heroes of Might and Magic - I have 1 - 5 + all expansions
Might and Magic - 6 - 10 -- 6 and 7 are the best though
Diablo - 1 & 2 + Expansions... cannot freaking wait for 3 to be released
Civilization - Have all of them, but only really play 2 + expansion. I like it the best
Warlords - Only have the 1st though I'm looking for a new copy as its getting harder and harder for my pc to read it
Masters of Orion 2 - Best out of them all sooo fun!
Ravenloft - Floppy disk... I also have a few other D&D floppies but I rarely play them now
Warcraft - Not World of... 1 and 2 ^^

Ohhh and Neverwinter Nights / Baldurs Gate!


I guess that's it for older games. I have a few others but don't play them as often or return to them as often as those ones. I was originally a pc gamer and just branched out - to like every system. Though comp games are the best, currently I've been playing Blood Bowl and Witcher on the PC.


@Facade - If you're interested in free old games, try and find out which ones are freeware, that way you dont' have to worry about obtaining licenses or all the illegalities of game piracy. Freeware is the bestest, and its surprising at how many games out there are free now just because the companies that owned them are out of business or sold out.

Facade, if you're on a mac there's a good torrent on Piratebay.org. It's 8 folders of Classic games converted to work. It's just called Classic Games for Mac.
There's probably something similar on the site for PCs too, if you look.

Also, Civ 2 was by far my favourite civilization game too. I've played that game for countless hours. It's awesome.

It's seriously amazing, in my book. I want to find it for free, but I don't think it's freeware quite yet... From what I gather from a half-assed Google search, anyway. :roll:

@ Hermes... its basically all I said, its a sim game such as civilization but instead u make a heaven and hell. So in hell u have the 7 deadly sins but u make them into buildings... and what not. And you make their opposites in heaven. Like lust / chastity. and u have 2 advisors... one from heaven and one from hell. They're soooo funny!!!!

Yeah... I heart lucas arts. Especially Monkey Island. I forgot that one too. You can get monkey island on the ps3 and wii now, but I mean the old old one for comp.. I believe its chucks revenge where he turns her into a statue... I love when you mean this old pirate chef and he's hunting "el diablo poulet" hahahaha

Civ 2 rocks my socks. I'm looking forward to starcraft but not sure if I'll get on pc or ps3 (if available can't remember if it is) I will defo be buying D3 for the pc when it comes out tho.


@Facade - Hehehe I no right!!!! Its an easy system to use, navigate and the 2 little helpers are very funny. Its a cute game really. Its worth paying 10 bucks for it now if u can find it for that... I really don't know if its free or not yet, I don't like to use torrents since its eats up my interweb.

Afterlife looks sweet. I am also looking it up. I need to see if I can torrent this somehow, because it looks freaking sweet.
As to Monkey Island, I've never played it. I don't even know what it is. But it is in the folder of classic games that I downloaded. Maybe I'll try it out tonight!
Starcraft 2 is going to rock. I'm not much for RTSs because I'm not good at them, but as soon as SC2 comes out I am getting it and learning how to be good. As far as D3, I've never looked forward to a game more ever.

You need to play Monkey Island. You'll love it. Side scrolling 2d rpg with quirky humor! I freaking loved it! Just make sure its the second one (I believe) the first one is so old it looks like ur playing LOOM. Hahaha.

The Discworld Game for pc is pretty fun to and its old, u might be able to get that one for free. But I would recommend not playing it if you haven't read some of terry pratches disc world series... which if u haven't get on it. Amazzzing books lol.

Oh Yeah I hear ya I suck at those games, but ... for Star Craft I will make an exception lol.

HAHAHA I know right!! D3 is going to be so freaking sweet. I think the last time I was this excited for a game was.... D2 (lol) and Baldurs Gate. Its going to be magical and I mean that in a non sarcastic way.

Well, I have the first and second Monkey Island games on here. I haven't gotten to playing them yet, but I'll keep them in mind next time I go through looking for something to do. =P

I remember when D2 came out I was younger (obviously) and not really into games. We played Diablo and I never knew there was a sequel until we got it for christmas and I just like, shit my brain out. I still love that game like a family member.

I just d.l the demo for Monkey Island on the PS3...

THE CONTROLS ARE WACK... omg it was so hard to navigate the lil dude. The humor is similar but it isn't there for me 100%. Old school monkey island ftw. I hope you can find it.

AHAHAHAHAAHAH I laughed so hard when I saw shit my brain out. Yeah I was introduced to Diablo thru my dad when I used to watch him play comp games all the time, so when the sequal came out I was all "weeee" then the expansion and I could be an assassin... Oh heck yeah, I was balls deep in that game.

I totally used to watch my Dad play Diablo 1! My bro and me played too, but when Dad played it was an event for some reason. We'd both go watch him. xD
I just started playing D2 again a couple days ago. It's like 10 years old now. Holy moly. Is it a classic?

Hahaha I'd say so :P - And I so know what you mean, I lose interest watching most ppl play games because then I'm all Ohhh I wanna. But yesterday I watched my dad play Saints Row for about 3 hours and it was so fun. Hahaha.

I just started replaying FF9 and Harvest Moon - More friends of Mineral Town (gba) I bet those could be counted as classics as well lol


@Gamer Ahhh Sacred good game, I think they just released a new version for the Ps3 ... Pretty sure unless I'm thinking of another game. I also have Sim Theme park, but my favorite sim type game for the pc was definitely Theme Hospital. Too good.

Oh balls... my fandom for Harvest Moon Transcends time and space my dear. Its being released July 6th here - Wind Bazaar. Although Twin Villages is the one I really want and that's been out in Japan for over 8 months, so I'm hoping by Christmas it'll be released here. Doubt it though since Wind Bazaar was released Sept of '08 in Japan and we're just getting it now -.-. Rune Factory 3 was also just announced at E3.

Yeah I have almost every Harvest Moon. :3 I hearts it so much.


Yeah I watched my bro play a lil bit of Sacred 2 but I was all man not my cup o tea.
