Okay, yeah, I deffinately see what you mean, Drake. They used the same engine for Oblivion and Fallout 3 right? Maybe we'll get lucky and they've figured out how to work with it by TES V.
Admitedly, I can't think of an excuse for not making NPCs level, especially the essential ones like Martin. Even in terms of storyline it would have made sense that he was stronger. And I never actually noticed that thing about tokens. I guess because I never really tried to power level or train a lot of skills at once. I think the mechcanics worked well if you're playing it for the story instead of trying to make you character super powerful. But I can see where that would put people off since I know a lot of people play RPGs precisely in order to make super powerful characters. On a more positive note, the music was excellent and a majority of the voice acting was pretty darn good. I know the same can be said for Morrowind (at least the VAs, I can't remember the music very well), but still. That did get kept up nicely. @ The Roze: Out of curiosity, when wouldn't you want an enchantment on apparel to be a constant effect? I wasn't much of an enchantment user, so I'm curious. |
Well in Morrowind you could enchant any random item of clothing so that when you activate it it shoots fireballs or something at a target. It would have a certain charge amount and you'd have to recharge it etc. Just like you could enchant a weapon so that it gave you a constant buff so long as you had it equipped.
|
Pft, you could make your clothing shoot fireballs? Oh man that needs to get brought back. Now. That is made of all sorts of hilarious.
|
Yeah you could do pretty much anything. Any spell you could cast could be applied to any weapon or piece of armour/clothing. And of course, you could create your own spells too. The holy grail was Azura's Star, a maximum capacity soul gem that could be re-used as many times as you liked. If you didn't make your enchants too mana intensive they could actually be passive abilities.
Anyone who likes Oblivion but didn't play Morrowind should really give it a try, it's cheap now and you can get the edition with the two expansions as well. It's also backwards compatible with the Xbox 360 if you play on a console. Also the vampirism was cooler in Morrowind, and Bloodmoon lets you become a werewolf. |
I've never become a vampire on Morrowind. I did it on Oblivion once, but I stopped using that character when I saw how ugly it makes you >_<
It was also a lot easier to get items you created on Morrowind. I don't know if anyone else gets this, but whenever I create a completely new Oblivion item and try to add it to my inventory using the console, it never works. I have to actually place it on the map, which is kind of annoying. In morrowind it was as simple as coming up with an item code and then using the console to add it to your inventory. It's also fun on Morrowind to walk around naked just to get people's reactions. Unfortunately you don't get that in oblivion. No one cares about nudity in Cyrodiil |
Soul gems were another thing I never used, mostly because it was such a hassle to fill them up and such. Was I just really bad at is or was its implementation awkward?
Yeah, I was kind of depressed by the lack of reactions in Oblivion. It would've been nice to have an indicator of accidentally not wearing clothes. (Wow. There's a sentence I'd never thought I'd make.) |
Well soul gems never gave me any trouble because whenever I enchant a weapon I always put a soul trap in it. Some people just cast the spell on its own, but I would never remember to do something like that >_<
An easy way to fill soul gems is to summon a creature, and kill it and steal its soul. It's brilliant fun walking around naked in Morrowind. People's reactions can be so funny! I was really hoping I could do it in Oblivion too... ah well maybe in the next game |
I never thought to enchant it! That's a smart move. I always had to cast the spell itself, mostly from summoning the creature. But my aim is just terrible, so that never worked well. xD
|
Yeah, putting a soul trap on a weapon is handy because so long as that's the weapon you use to actually kill whatever you're soul trapping, you don't need to worry abotu how long the soul trap lasts ^^
|
Next time I play I think I'm going to enchant my dagger or... whatever it is I'm using. I can hardly even remember. Jeeze I should fire Oblivion up again.
|
Every time I start playing Oblivion after having stopped for a while (usually to play the Sims 2) I start a new character because I can't remember a thing about the old one ^^
I have millions of saved games with all my different characters  |
Oh man I do that too. xD After a while I just basically cleared out my saves and started from scratch. I really like it with the main quest delayer. I like having the option to start the game without going through those dungeons and without being THE CHOSEN ONE. It's pretty nice!
You should see my Fallout saves though. I'm playing as five characters at the same time. Those save files are CRAZY. I kind of wish Bethesda does the same thing that BioWare does for dealing with saves. How it organizes your saves by character. That'd be so incredibly helpful. |
I haven't bothered to go through my saved games. There really are millions of them, some of the earliest ones are years old >_<
Quite often I also just create a character to experiment with something (like I tried creating a new race called the Pixie whichwas half the height of normal people ^^) and then I end up saving the game "just in case" when I know I'm never going to play with that character ever again. |

Same here, I'd never played a game where I could pick up anything I wanted, I couldn't stop stealing when I found out! XDDD I think soon after I got away from the Imperial Guard after stealing the onion I raided another guard tower and stole a bunch of armor and over-encumbered myself. >_> Quote:
I read somewhere that the Argonian game was postponed because it wasn't very well-received, and then Bethesda got distracted by Fallout 3... Quote:
lol! Yeah, after a while the money just piles up and I couldn't find anywhere to spend them...I remember one of my characters had over 9 million gold (HOW does he carry it around with him anyway?) and I didn't know how to spend it all and wondered if there could be a 'donation' feature in the game...(other than the bribery) Quote:
Oh, yeah. Martin ALWAYS die when I do the final main quest...because I'm usually at level 40-something by that time and the entire street is flooded with daedra lords, Spider Daedras, Xivilais, Storm Atronachs... |
Well I always use a cheat at the very start to get lots of money, so I've always had loads. It's rather insulting when the Countess of Bruma wants your help with something and gives you 25 gold to get you interested. 25 gold!!!! I'm the richest person in the world and she tries to get me interested in a quest with 25 gold!

Elder Scrolls Four Oblivion is like a never ending game in my opinion, it just keeps on going-- I mean in the aspect of side quests. There is just so much to do in it and it just keeps getting progressively harder as you go and some quests are much easier to accomplish at a lower level as opposed to going in all decked out and non playable characters are a lot easier to keep alive at low levels as well.
|
I loved Elder Scrolls: Oblivion! I invested a lot of game into that game. I definitely got my money's worth, that's for sure! I just wished it didn't crash and freeze a lot. I lost a lot of hours from losing saves. I know, I know. I should have saved every now and then. But that's not the way to play the game! Being all paranoid saving every two or three minutes! It's not relaxing! :P
I haven't played Sims, so I can't comment. |

lmao XDDD Quote:
Same here D: My computer crashes pretty often, I suspect it's because my laptop isn't exactly built for playing high-quality games...I have to use lowest quality just to get the game running. And I still run into lagfests whenever there are more than three enemies attacking at once with spells flying. |
