A good way to get an idea for how you would look with dreads is to have your hair braided in the thickness that you'd want your dreads to be in.
|
i have dreads(waist length)
people have so many misconceptions about them its crazy but most of it comes from caaucasions try and achieve the style using crazy techniques african americans can get them easily by sectioned there hair off and twisiting them eventually they bud and turn into a tightly coiled twist(dread) when there hair grows they have to take the un-dreaded hair and twist it. its like layers i wash my hair 1x a week(no need to wash it constantely because your scalp is always exposed and its actually a cleaner hairstyle than regular hair) they never smell and from what i hear look good on me |
Eww.. I hate them :/
I find that I cant pull them off... and even if I could? Still - Eww. Something about them just throws me off... it just bothers me insanely. It makes me shudder - again, even if you pull them off, I don't like them. Its just not anywhere near my personal taste... :/ I don't really hate them - and Im not going up to people with them and being like "Eww, your hair makes me want to gouge out my eyes... and then stomp on them." I am friendly and all with people with them... I just wont touch it... and try not to look at it. |
I generally like them. Newton Faulkner really sold them for me. He looks amazing with them. I doubt i'd be able to pull them off myself, not that i'm overly inclined to try. I don't think they suit girls as much.
|
here, i think this should answer some questions |
It's only ok on black people. It just doesn't look good on white people and white people hair is harder to dread. As to touching them, it depends on the dread type, if it's small braids that frizzed out, that's cool, because they can wash it. If it's real dreadlock with the locking glue, no, because it's greasy. |
Real, healthy dreads don't use locking glue, because its just like putting glue in your hair. YOu should never put glue in your hair. Not a lot of White people can pull it off but I did, and Some people can. I like them because they are as I;'ve said--a commitment, and they're beautiful if they're taken care of. I hate the fake dreads (lockign glue, wax...etc) because they are greasy looking, and when you touch them they feel like sticks. My ex girlfriend had dreads, and she looked amazing with them. I never let mine grow out past 3 weeks before I decided otherwise. I figured that my hair needed to be longer, because my hair is to my shoulders, and when I back-comb it and all that, it comes to my ears......So before I go about letting them be dreaded out--again, I'm going to let my straight-ness grow to my back.

No offense, but I hate dreadlocks. I'm one of those people who's really obsessive about hair. I like hair to be as shiny and soft as one can possibly make it, and just about cry when people ruin their hair. That's not to say dreads ruin hair! It just doesn't look very soft or pretty.
There are a rare few who can pull them off well, but the numbers are too thin for most people to be able to consider getting them with my approval. |
That's understandable. While I love dreadlocks, I adore soft and shiny hair too.:]
|
IMO, certain guys can make dreadlocks look cool.. At the same time, they can also look awful on some people.
|
Personally, don't care for dreadlocks at all. I can't really recall one time in which I've seen them on a person and been "Well, that looks ok." I just can't find anything attractive about them. :/
|
I find a lot of people actually look very attractive with genuine dreads. It's very tecchy.
|
For. The. Win. When people can pull them off, anyway. :)
I think it's a clever use of hair that is quite different and makes people stand out. I like stuff like that. But likeother people have said it can look really horrible on some people. |
I absolutely love dreads!! I want dreads myself, but I'm not sure if I could pull them off sadly :(
|
|
I have to admit that I love them.
I'd never damage my own hair that way, but it think that dreadlocks are a very strong fashion statement. If you have the courage to wear them, then I'm behind you 100%. |

it actually promotes healthy hair thats why it doesnt take long for people to get really long hair with them. wearing your hair regularly is more damaging than anything |
Huh, thanks guys. I never knew that before!
Since people always talk about having to cut their dreadlocks out, I assumed that it was because the hair itself became damaged. |
I saw this guy with GORGEOUS dreads at a show I went to. I decided to be a creep and touch them when he wasn't looking

It isn't as if you can easily wash them out and have shiny locks after a few days. |
I think it depends on how they accomplish their dreads for them to be appealing or not. Certain people also just look better than others do with them. There was a girl at my school who had dreadlocks, and they really suited her. Unlike some people, hers were clean, as well. Rather than being greasy and gross, like some... They looked spiky. o 3o

I personally love dreads, even though I can't commit to them myself. XD I have several friends who have dreads, and I've always thought it'd be awesome to have them and decorate them with random stuff. XP
It's definitely a huge commitment, and that's mainly why I never had them. I did make fake dreads in college with some hair wax and some backcombing, but that's about as far as I want to go when it comes to dreads on my own head. Plus, my hair's all thin and only slightly wavy. I think I'd have a hard time making dreads anyways. |
On some people it's FTW and on others it's deff a GTFO. I think it also has more to do with attitude than looks as well.
