Léan, who was not fond of humans, was skeptical about the idea, of course. He had been alone all his life, save for the few times he spent with his twin brother, and brought up by his father to despise humans, who had had a part in the death of his mother. He was a bona fide loner, and had always planned to remain that way. But...
If that was what she really wanted, and she was 100% serious...he might consider it. He was a bit too nervous to bring it up, however. |
Emy could tell he was nervous, though not many things came to mind when she thought about what he would be nervous about. Then it struck her and she blushed softly. She concentrated on the road for a minute, but saw they were swiftly coming closer to the ocean. She swallowed a lump in her throat and glanced over at him. She was deciding for once in her life to speak her mind truthfully and say how she really felt. "Leandre....I want to come with you." She tried to make her voice even, but it wavered a little. It sounded a little pleading and loving at the same time.

Léan flushed pink, and cleared his throat. "...Are you sure about that?" he asked, finally. "Your sister and father will be wondering where you are...they'll be searching all over for you, get the police involved...then again, you can still walk on land..." He seemed quite nervous, and was playing with his fingers.

Emy looked at him for a moment and blinked, then looked back towards the water. "I'm sure...my father and sister...will be worried, but if Roger doesn't get a phone call soon, he'll know what happened and cover for me. So....no police....well, other than trying to find the stolen merman." She added jokingly.

Léan looked down. "...I still think they'll be upset...worried. Maybe you should call them...tell them the truth about what happened--your father, at least...he can tell your sister you'll be gone for a while...you can always come back up on land, as long as you know where this car is..."

Emy glanced over at him, something bothered her about how he was reacting to all this. She closed her eyes for a moment and took a breath. "I should probably do that..." She looked at him for a moment. "...do you want me to come?" That was very cruicial info for her. If he didn't want her to come, than she wouldn't. It'd hurt like hell....but she wouldn't make him do that if he didn't want to.

Léan pondered that for a few minutes, eyes on the approaching ocean. "I have been alone all my life. I am used to being alone, and being with a group has always bothered me. I do not mind you going with me, and I won't stop you if that is what you really want. Just...forgive me if I get ornery. I am not used to being with others for an extended amount of time."

Emy glanced over at him when he started talking again. What he'd said bothered her, but not in a way she could explain. She nodded a little, sort of slowly, as if she was considering something. "I can understand being alone....probably not to the extent that you are talking about...but I can sort of understand. And...if you get sick of me, then I can always come back home." She wasn't too fond of leaving him, or the thought of him getting sick of her always being around.

Léan shifted, uncomfortably. "I won't chase you away...at least, I won't try to. I'm not sure of how I will react to having constant company, since it is not something I'm used to. I won't intentionally drive you away. If you really want to go with me, I'm not going to stop you."

Emy looked at him for a moment, considering his words, then looked back to the road silently. She chewed on the inside of her cheek, thinking. Then she looked over at him again. "Do your kind kiss? Or is there a whole different set of rules?" It was embarrassing to ask about, but she was trying to decide something.

"We do kiss, yes. There is only another 'set of rules,' as you say, if we...ahem, went underwater. It is a little different when there is no ground beneath you," Léan explained shortly, avoiding eye contact. He was quite embarrassed, but was attempting not to show that.

Emy blinked, then grinned slightly. "Guess I should've expected that part." She wasn't really that embarrased, but she wouldn't really know how he felt about any of it....it was sort of hard to read him. Though, he did sort of look embarrased. "I'm sorry." She said kindly. She didn't like embarrasing people.

"Oh no, it's quite all right. I'm fine," Léan assured her, dryly. His manner of speech, most of the time, was so elegant that it made it obvious he wasn't a native speaker of English. He didn't seem to have an accent, though...which was somewhat peculiar.

Emy looked over at him for a moment, then sighed and pulled the car off of the interstate and turned in her seat to face him. She had an odd look on her face as she looked at him, as if she were deciding something.

Léan tilted his head a bit. He waited, patiently but nervously, for her to finish up what she was doing. He didn't want to interrupt her thought process.

Emy blinked slightly, then looked at him with a small nervous smile. "Umm....don't freak out, k?" She leaned toward him and quickly, but softly kissed him.

Léan stiffened a bit and didn't return it. Natural, considering he'd never willingly consented to one before. He didn't freak out, but he certainly wasn't sure how to act. And he didn't go into instinct mode, since he wasn't underwater...it was different above water.

Emy slowly pulled back and looked at him, then closed her eyes and her shoulders slumped. "I'm sorry..." She took his stiffening and not returning her kiss as him not wanting to.

Léan blinked. "...For what? My reactions...they're because I have never willingly consented to a kiss before. Unwillingly...yes. Many times. But never willingly." He paused, not going any farther than that. Some of the dark bits of his past had just reared their ugly heads.

Emy blinked slightly and glanced at him. "I...didn't ask first." She didn't question what he meant about the many times he was made to kiss someone against his will. She then look through the windshield. "I'm a little confused about something..." She then looked at him fully again. "Did you want to kiss me back?" It was a little hard for her to say. She usually wasn't that forward.

Léan flushed pink. "Erm. I...would like to try," he admitted, sheepishly. "I am out of my element, so instinct isn't really taking over. I'm not quite sure what to do."

Emy blinked slightly and nodded once. "Well...how would you kiss underwater? It might not be so different." She was a little nervous, but was trying to keep calm so she wouldn't freak him out.

"Just like that...like what you did. It just feels strange out of water, is all--I will be fine," Léan assured her, nodding. He wasn't all that confident, but he would do his best.

Emy nodded slightly then moved slightly so that she was facing him completely now. "Ok, how about I start and you do what you think you should?" She was waiting for approval before she did anything.

Léan nodded, slowly. "That...sounds good. I don't know if I will be able to keep up, but...do what you want. I will try." He wanted to try, honestly. He just wasn't sure if he would know what to do, since he wasn't underwater.
