Emy looked a little worried at the way Leandre went off by himself like he did. But, the gator bumped her slightly to get her attention. She smiled softly at it, then looked at Morty. "Umm....I hate to ask this, really I do. But...since niether of us know our way around this place, could you tell me where the most likely place this child's mother would be?"
Morty grinned slightly and nodded. "There are a couple pools she may have stopped at once she realized that her baby was missing." Emy nodded and gently petted the gator's nose to comfort it. Then moved over to Leandre slowly, gently touching his arm when she reached him. "Are you alright?" |
"I'm fine." Léan was grumbling again, a bitter, powerful need to be alone coming over him. He wasn't used to company, after all. He'd been alone for the better part of three quarters of his life.
Emy sighed softly, then hung her head a little bit. "Alright....we're going to find his mother....we'll be back later..." Anyone could tell she didn't want to go anywhere with Monty alone...but Leandre didn't feel like being around her, so she left him alone and went back to the gator who looked anxious until she came back to him. Then she glanced at Monty. "Alright...lets go."
Léan noticed the change in her expression. Feeling guilty, he shoved his issues aside and lazily followed her. At a distance, though. He didn't want to snap.
Emy felt a little better after she noticed Leandre had started to come with them. But, she knew something was still wrong, so she'd leave him alone. "Come on, little one." She said softly to the gator and it started along side her. Monty led, but not by very much, he could still glance to the side and get a good view of her.
Léan kept himself quiet as they moved along. He would be fine in a few minutes--he just needed some time to himself, where he wasn't being spoken to or bothered by someone else.
Emy could feel his eyes on her every time he looked at her. After a moment, her arms slowly moved to where she looked as though she were trying to rub goosebumps from her arms, but she was just trying to cover her chest. She hated the desiring look she could feel from him. The gator looked at Emy, then over at Monty and seemed to growl at him.
Léan, finally having calmed down, let loose an extremely low, musical, scratchy kind of growl. It was a territorial mating growl, and said, in a nutshell, 'That is my mate. Back off, or face my wrath.'
Monty looked back at Lean for a moment then just nodded slightly, not that he would really back off, he wasn't afraid of Lean.
Emy felt calmer when Lean seemed to claim her. It also sent a chill up her spine. |
Léan was more than aware of the fact that Monty was older and most likely stronger than him. He'd dealt with fighting older males before, however--back home, he had never felt safe in his own home, and had gotten in several nearly-deadly fights with his own father. He kept up a low grumble in his throat, and quietly swam forward, to swim next to Emy and between Emy and Monty, so there was no chance for a possible attack.
Emy knew something was wrong when Leandre didn't stop the sound that was imminating from his throat. It sort of worried her....would Monty really try anything? She looked at Lean when he came between them, giving him a small grateful look, then looked at Monty, who didn't seem effected by Lean's display. But, she could see he was still staring at her from the corner of his eyes.
Léan did keep that sound going, shoulders up to his chin, tail flicking back and forth in a territorial, aggressive manner. Merpeople had a distinctly animal-like side, with how they acted over mates, territory, and food sometimes. This was a clear and rather scary display of that.
Monty suddenly stopped and faced Lean. "You can stop now. It's not like I'm going to rape her or anything." Emy looked slightly embarrased, though looked between Lean and Monty, a little worried.
Léan was relieved, but he still didn't approve of the staring, so he turned away, sticking his nose up in the air, and kept swimming. He didn't like Monty, and probably wouldn't...not until he found something or someone else to stare at, after all.
Emy sighed and swam after Lean, taking his arm gently. "Leandre...you don't know where you're going." She said in a soft, caring voice.
Léan rested his head on her shoulder, aware of that. He'd just needed to put some distance between himself and Monty, since Léan's natural reaction to any confrontation was either to get defensive and snap...or turn to violence.
Emy gently touched his chest with her other hand. "Please...calm down...I know its infuriating...but you don't have to deal with it for too much longer."
"I'm calm," Léan informed her, dryly. "Simply annoyed." He glanced around, and suddenly, he spotted a larger-looking gator a few feet away, which was swimming about almost frantically, looking for something.
Emy sighed softly, knowing he wasn't simply annoyed. When she followed his gaze, her face instantly lit up. "Hey...its the mother." She moved away from Leandre and went to the baby gator. "Look....your mother's over there." The gator looked towards it and instantly swam toward the female adult. Then slowly approached her.
Léan was getting antsy. He missed his brother. Terribly. He and his brother didn't get along when they were together for too long, unless they had someone else with them, but he hadn't seen him in so long, and he missed him. It was suddenly starting to hit him now...it had been building for the past day and a half.
Emy smiled at the scene, suddenly missing her own mother, then sniffed slightly and couldn't stop herself from tearing up. She turned away and covered her face, trying not to cry. Monty blinked and looked at her, moving over to her and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Are you alright?"
Léan seemed to understand, and he laid a hand on her other shoulder, looking concerned. He simply rubbed her shoulder, though, and didn't try to coax her into talking. He let her mourn, sudden as it was.
Emy had tensed when Monty touched her, then relaxed slightly when Leandre touched her. She then moved and wrapped her arms around him, burring her face into his chest.
Léan rested his chin on top of her head, closing his eyes. He ran his hands down her back, in a gentle, reassuring sort of way, curling his tail around hers. It was a kind gesture, one that said 'It's okay.'
Emy slowly relaxed in his arms, but didn't leave them. Monty slowly backed away and gave them some space, not looking at them.
