Léan didn't seem to understand what if anything he'd done wrong. He gave an affectionate nuzzle to his brother and then laid himself out more on the rocks.
Archie sighed, resting on the rocks, as well. |
Monty seemed confused when Leandre didn't go after Emy. It was a little surprising as well. "Umm...I'll be right back." He said softly to them without looking at them. Then he slowly started off towards Emy.
Léan knew it was probably about what had happened earlier. He wasn't ready to discuss it yet. So, he reluctantly stayed behind, to let Monty try and deal with it.
It was too soon. Much too soon. He knew it was too soon, and he wished she would understand that it was for both of their benefits. |
Monty gently touched her arm, then moved her around to face him. "Come on. Don't treat him that way....unless he deserves it." He said in a concerned, yet chiding voice.
Emy blinked slightly, then looked away. "I feel so....useless." |
There wasn't much to do when the territory was so small and there weren't any little ones running around. If they acquired some new pack members, especially ones with children or small children themselves, there would definitely be more to do. She could also scout with Archie, if she wanted.
Emy looked a little depressed. Then Monty gently nudged her. "You may do whatever you please. You are the alpha's mate, but those responsibilities are...not for me to tell you." He grinned. "But...I think you should do something you enjoy."
Léan watched them from a distance, unable to hear their conversation. That unnerved him just slightly...but he was far too comfortable where he was to get up and eavesdrop, and risk getting caught.
Emy blinked slightly, turning towards Monty with a curious expression. "Could you....teach me how to fight? Or rather, defend myself....I could hold my own on land...but here...it's just so different....and I don't want to be a burden."
Monty looked pleased and nodded almost instantly. "Of course I will. Whenever you'd like." |
Léan sighed, and turned to face his brother. The two cuddled together for a while, comfortably. Thankfully, Léan wasn't focused on scents at the moment and didn't notice that his brother smelled like he'd been a little too close proximity-wise with Monty, for a while.
Emy then looked instantly excited. "What about right now?" She was pretty pumped and needed to do something. "I'll be right back." She swam quickly over to Leandre. "Hey. Me and Monty are gonna go duke-it-out. Be back later." She then started to swim off.
Léan lifted his head at once, looking puzzled. He made a mental note to keep an eye on them, even if their outlines were blurry. He didn't want anything strange or detrimental to happen.
Emy grabbed Monty's arm and pulled him off a little farther. "Alrighty, teach me, please."
Léan laid his head down on his arms and watched them. It was hard to see from this distance, but he could definitely see some kind of outlines, which was enough for him.
Monty started showing her simple moves. He started by teaching her to keep away other merpeople, he'd get to the animals later.
Léan, from experience, knew it was much easier to keep out nomadic mermaids than nomadic mermen, especially if the mermen had some sort of age advantage. When it came to packs...it was difficult to keep any member of them out.
Emy got beat a little, but she did get a few ins on Monty. Which surprised him.
Léan watched with amusement, internally cheering when Emy was able to best Monty in any way, shape, or form. It was hilarious to see. He stretched himself out a little more, yawning.
Once or twice, Emy tackled Monty out of frustration. Monty would be sort of surprised, but Emy would look annoyed and it'd make Monty laugh. Which, eventually made Emy laugh too.
Archie seemed to be the only one who noticed that Léan seemed to be feeling down. It was odd to tell when it came to Léan, since he acted like a grumpy old man all the time anyway. But Archie knew his brother well. He didn't push him about it...he wouldn't. He was afraid of how his brother would react.
Emy and Monty soon both got tired, coming back together and smiling. "Hey, you two...are you tired? Or...bored?" It sort of looked that way, both of them laying there that way. But, Emy noticed something was up.
"I'm not tired yet. I want to do something, but there isn't much to do," Archie complained, frowning.
Léan shrugged, settling down more and closing his eyes. He didn't know how to explain how he felt. It was odd, the way he was feeling. |
Monty looked at Archie, then smiled a little more. Both him and Emy then settled down for a moment, obviously tired. "Well, I'll think of something." He assured Archie and stayed for a little rest. Emy gently touched Leandre's arm, smiling softly. "Are you alright?"
Archie stretched himself out, trying to think of what was in the area to do. It was a rather isolated area. They could all go exploring.
"I'm fine," Léan murmured, eyes still closed. He appeared to be quite tired...but was he? Or was he just trying to avoid talking about anything? |
Monty closed his eyes and relaxed, but was oddly aware of what was going on.
Emy just bit her lip softly, watching him. "I'm sorry..." She said softly as she leaned down and kissed his cheek. "...for being so...edgy." |
Archie lifted his head slightly, like he was listening to something in the distance...closely. Then, he seemed to recoil, and he slid down between the rocks. "Human fishing ship," he murmured, pointing upwards at a dark shape above them, that was starting to blot out the sunlight. The water here was shallow. It was easy to be hooked if one was out in the open, or netted. "There's a big cave under here where we can all fit. Hurry up..."
Léan jumped out of his reverie at once, tailing after his brother closely. |
