It was Neville who spoke up. "Well, you've done lots of amazing things!" he said. "In our first year, you fought Quirrell for the Sorcerer's Stone—and in our second year, there was that Chamber of Secrets thing, with a basilisk!"
"And last June," Draco said, trying to catch Ron's eyes, "from what I've heard, you fought You-Know-Who far better than he was expecting, and he didn't like that." He looked at Hermione again. "Let me know if you need any help mustering up support," he said. "Most of Slytherin is a lost cause, but there might still be one or two of the younger students who might want to learn something, even if it's just to fight against the usual bullies we get." |
Harry sighed some "You all make me sound like I'm some sort of profound hero, who saves the princess" He said. "Sure I did all those things, but it's not like they were easy, and two of those times I almost died" he said. One time had been with the basilisk fang and the poison, but he had saved Ginny and at that time it was all that mattered.
"And sure I survived the attack from Voldemort, but that was only because when our wands connected something odd happened" he said. He had left out the part of the story, where he had seen his parents, he wasn't going to get into all that now "Nothing I've done is that great" He said. Hermione ignored what Harry had said, and simply rolled his eyes, he had agreed to teach and that was all that mattered to her "I'll be able to handle it, thanks, but I do think we would benefit from having you teach as well, if you would be willing that is" She said [[Ohh yeah, so I did get my other account back, But I believe I'm going to keep using this one as a main, since the username is more up to date and more -me- now xD]] |
((Yay, glad that was settled! I like the new name, btw.))
--- Draco nodded. "I'll leave it to you, then, Gr—Hermione," he said. Then he added, loudly for Ron's benefit, "You've always been really good at organizing things. Are you still doing that house-elf thing?" |
[[Thank you. It's actually my gaia username, the other one, was a reallyreallyreally old one]]
Hermione looked at him and laughed "I won't get mad if you call me Granger" She said with a smile "Oh, now that you mention it, thank you for reminding me about that" She said Ron grumbled when he heard the mention of the elf thing "Great, now I'm going to be put back to work, thanks a lot" He mumbled some Harry glanced over at Draco "Good going" He said with a laugh and looked at Ron "I'll help you, probably" He said if he wasn't to busy. |
Draco was relieved that the tension appeared to have been broken. Ron had even, possibly, spoken to him—though in a grumbling, upset way.
Lunch passed slowly; no one tried to kill them, and Ron didn't say anything nasty directly to Draco, though he still kept shooting him dark, suspicious looks. When Draco had finished eating, he looked up at the High Table to see Umbridge watching him, a queer, intense look on her face; it was as if she was frowning, but in a very satisfied way. He hoped she wasn't actually a Death Eater, and was just very skilled at name-dropping. She didn't look to be a powerful witch, he thought—maybe that was why they didn't actually learn anything in Defense. Maybe it wasn't that she didn't want them to learn, but that she couldn't actually perform the spells? Well, they'd probably find out eventually. Someone—probably Harry, Draco thought—would eventually snap in her classes and try to do a curse or jinx, and then they'd know if she could actually do defensive magic. Draco still hadn't got a timetable from McGonagall, so he asked the general vicinity, "What class have we got after lunch?" |
Harry sat and ate his lunch quietly, Hermione was already busy mentally planning the whole thing in her head. And although Ron and spoke some, he still wasn't in the mood for friendly conversation, but he was calming done some. The best thing was, that lunch had went by peacefully, no one tried anything stupid. Well with all the teachers around, and especially Dumbledore, no one would be dumb enough to actually try something would they?
Harry glanced up at the table, and noticed the short pudgy horrible teacher seemingly staring at Draco. This was going to mean problems, someone really needed to put that women in her place but he got the feeling that wouldn't happen. Unless Fred and George where brave enough to do something, maybe Harry would accidentally let a few ideas slip around them, to get there scheming minds started on something. "Huum, we have -----" He said. At least the day seemed to be going by fast, which was a plus. The faster they got through the day, the better. |
((How can it be a class with the Slytherins? They had Care of Magical Creatures and Potions "yesterday," I thought. And Hermione and Harry are taking some different classes; Hermione has Ancient Runes and Arithmancy while Harry has Divination; Draco, I think, also takes Arithmancy.
:D We really need to just settle on a course schedule. They can have four classes a day, and the only ones they have with Slytherin are Care of Magical Creatures and Potions. Defense, History, Transfiguration, Charms, and Astronomy are all with just Gryffindors, and Herbology is with the Hufflepuffs. Divination is just Gryffindors, I think. I don't know about Hermione's two classes that Harry doesn't take.)) |
[[I did mention something about coming up with a schedule so we would know what we were talking about.
I'll edit my post though and change that last line, they already had Defense. Maybe have them have Herbology next]] |
((Yeah -- so, did we want to stick with the schedule they have in the books, or make one up ourselves?))
|
[[We can stick with the one they have in the books, I think that would be easier]]
|
((Okay -- we've already gone off it a bit, but we can just move forward with it. I'll post it in a second...))

[[Okay
What day of the week is it?]] |
((*points up* Okay, so it's Tuesday, right? Then they do actually have a class with the Slytherins, Care of Magical Creatures. Yay!))
---- Hagrid boomed at Harry from across the Great Hall. "Harry! Need ter talk with yer before class! Walk down with me?" "Care of Magical Creatures," Draco groaned. Well, time had come to apologize to Hagrid. He waited for the half-giant to reach them. |
[[I think I should really visit that site you mentioned earlier xD]]
Harry almost jumped out of his skin, when he heard Hagrids rather loud voice all of a sudden. He glanced at Draco "I'll see you down there, be careful" He said. He had no other choice but to leave him alone for now. Harry walked over to Hagrid and looked at him curiously "What do you need to talk to me about?" He asked Hermione glanced over and then walked over to Draco "I'll walk down with you, so you aren't alone" She said with a gentle smile. |
Draco could have hugged Hermione for her support. "Thanks," he said meaningfully, watching Hagrid take Harry aside. He wondered if Hagrid would be, like so many others, questioning Harry's sudden support of Draco.
It was really annoying, Draco decided, that no one could believe a change of heart anymore. He looked up at the High Table to see what Umbridge thought of this, and caught Dumbledore's eye. Dumbledore was looking at him fondly, with a pleased little smile on his face. Draco found himself half-smiling back, and felt his spirits instantly lift. Dumbledore supported him, even if very few others did. "Can you tell me the secret of getting Ron on my side?" Draco asked Hermione as they walked down towards Care of Magical Creatures. He asked only half-seriously, with a little joking grin, knowing that both Harry and Hermione were probably sick of the bad mood between the two of them. |
[[Should I make up a conversation between Hagrid and Harry?]]
|
((I'll do Hagrid, I guess.))
Hagrid walked quickly out of the Great Hall, completely oblivious to the fact that his fast pace would probably mean Harry had to jog to keep up. "Harry, what in blazes are yeh doin' with that Malfoy boy? He's no good, even if he's pretendin' to switch sides. What'n'hell are yeh thinkin?" |
[[I would have done him, I was just asking was all]]
Hermione nodded “No problem” She said as she looked over at him and then looked away. She could tell he had really changed; now she just needed to get it through a certain thick headed guys skull and she would be good. “I don’t really know if there is a secret” She said. She had been trying everything she could think of to convince him to give Draco a chance and it had all failed “Trust me, I’ve tried just about every trick I have, I guess we have to wait for him to come around, and come to it on his own terms” She said. "He's not pretending Hagrid" he said as he struggled to keep up with him "I know what I'm doing, he's really not a bad person once you get to know the real him, and not the him molded by his father" He said |
((Eh, it's okay. Want to take it over, then? :D))
--- Draco nodded, and kept his mouth shut again on several rather nasty comments about Ron, and the Weasleys in general. "I'll have to leave it to you, then." He looked over at Harry and Hagrid. "As unbelievable as it might be, I just don't want to make Harry unhappy." |
“He came around a little at lunch did he not?” She asked with a smile. She knew eventually he would come around. “I don’t think you have to worry about that much, the only time Harry’s ever really unhappy is over the summer, when he’s away from everyone here” She said
“He’s playin’ yer for a fool” Hagrid said as he looked down at Harry Harry knew that Hagrid was just doing this because he cared and didn’t want him to get hurt, but he knew what he was doing. “No he’s not Hagrid, just give him a chance” He said “Fine, but I’m goin’ to be keepin’ a close eye on him” He said. More so then he usually did, if he tried anything funny, he would know right away “What about Ron and Hermione?” He asked “Well Ron not so much, Hermione, a little because I trust him” He said with a smile Hagrid nodded some “Yer, best get off, and go with the other Gryffindors now” he said once they had reached their destination “You’ll see what I mean Hagrid, and If I can forgive him, everyone else should be able to, to” He said as he walked over to where all the other Gryffindors where. |
Draco saw Hagrid shaking his head and looking dubious as Harry walked over to him and Hermione.
A slow sense of rage that had been building un-noticed all morning now made its presence known. Draco was sick of people doubting Harry, sick of people doubting himself. He was tired of being labeled by his now-ex-House, and tired of the assumptions everyone made. Trouble was, he couldn't figure out anything to do that would completely shake everyone's perceptions—except, of course, the Slytherins, who knew that Draco would never do anything as stupid as this unless it was his last option. Which it was. As Pansy, Nott, Goyle, Crabbe, and Millicent Bulstrode joined the group of Gryffindors outside of Hagrid's hut, Draco found himself inching in closer to Harry and Hermione. They were glaring at him, in a unified group, and it was, in all honesty, effing scary. Hagrid wasn't a powerful wizard like Dumbledore, or even Snape. Hagrid's power came from his Giant heritage, and Draco knew that if the Slytherins decided to try something, there was little Hagrid could do to help. "Get away from me," Draco heard Ron hiss, as Hagrid began explaining more about the Thestrals they'd started on the other day. "I want to stay out of sight of the Slytherins," Draco whispered back, not caring about Ron's comfort. "Can't you see? They want to kill me." He looked over at Ron in time to see the other boy actually look at and assess the Slytherins. Ron's eyes widened in realization. "Merlin's pants, they do!" To Draco's disgust, he sounded happy about that. "Ronald Weasley," Draco whispered tensely, "if something happens to me and it's your fault, trust me that Harry won't be happy about it." Ron shot him a nasty look. "Or Hermione," Draco added quickly. Ron's nasty look modulated into a tired, annoyed one. "Fine," he spat, still in an undertone that Draco didn't think anyone around them could hear. "Fine," he repeated. "You've got a truce, Malfoy, but only for Hermione's sake. If I catch you doing anything—anything—suspicious..." He trailed off, probably intending to sound threatening, but Draco figured Ron simply couldn't think up a suitable punishment. "Agreed," Draco whispered, immensely relieved, and directed his attention back to Hagrid—and the Slytherins, who were shifting around as if trying to keep him in sight. |
[[Ohh I love your avatar, it's so pretty
Especially those rainbow stockings]] Harry was glad to see that Hermione and Draco seemed to be getting along, that was at least one bridge they had crossed, now there were just a bunch of bigger ones in their way. What he couldn’t understand was how so many people who had always trusted his judgment were now debating it, and asking him if he was crazy. Granted, he wasn’t near as smart as Hermione was, but he knew what he was doing, and was usually a good judge of people. Even Ron was questioning him, and how it wasn’t Draco who had changed but how it was him that had changed Sure he had changed some over the summer, but every one changed a little, he was still the same old person he had always been. The only differences were, he had seen more now, had been through more, and was gay. Other than that he was still the same Harry he always been, the one who cared about people and was willing to take risks to save them, maybe that was why they didn’t understand it. Maybe they couldn’t figure out why he was willing to risk so much when, he had made his life hell all those years. Harry snapped out of his thoughts when he saw the Slytherins, he was going to have to keep his attention on them. He drifted in and out of listening to what Hagrid was saying, which made him feel bad, Hagrid took being a teacher seriously, and Harry was one of his favorite students and here he was preoccupied with something else. But right now, the current death threats took importance over the lesson at hand. Not to mention he knew if they were to try something Hagrid wouldn’t be of much help, he after all wasn’t technically allowed to use magic and would get in trouble if he did so. Harry glanced over at Draco, and moved a bit closer to him, if anything was to happen, it would be best if he was closer to him. Once he was close enough he looked at him "Do you think there going to try anything?" He asked |
((Thanks! I'm celebrating finally getting my panda slippers.))
--- "They certainly look like it," Draco muttered back. Hagrid looked over at them at the moment and gave Harry a dark look. Draco pasted on his best I'm-paying-attention-really-I-am look, which was a mistake. "All right, Malfoy, you can come and ride the Thestral first," Hagrid said, with all the air of treating someone to the best thing ever. Draco shot Harry a help-me look, but Hagrid had already pulled Draco out of the group and was setting him astride the Thestral. "Er," said Draco. He patted the beast's neck. "Where should I go?" "Just over the Quidditch pitch and back," Hagrid said, speaking more to the Thestral than to Draco. With a huge whoosh of air, the Thestral launched itself off the ground. Draco was glad he could see it, as it would have been extremely unnerving to simply fly through the air with nothing visible underneath him. It was fast, too—within a few seconds they'd left the class behind. The Thestral wheeled out over the Forbidden Forest, then, with alarming speed, banked in a steep curve and took Draco back towards the class, which it passed, and continued on out towards the castle and the Quidditch pitch on the opposite side. It was exhilarating, Draco had to admit; not as visceral as flying on a broomstick, not as much being in control, but wonderfully fast and physical, with the huge beast underneath his legs. He gripped tightly as the Thestral sped up even further, going into a dive of sheer ebulliance around the backside of the Quidditch pitch, then wheeling back upwards to a great height for the flight back to Hagrid's class. When he was about thirty feet from the group, he saw the entire group of Slytherins raise their wands in unison and shout something. A jet of red light hit the Thestral, which went immediately stiff and began falling alarmingly fast towards the ground. Draco tried to fumble for his wand, but the creature was flying so fast that his wand was whipped out of his hand by the passing wind before he could get a good grip on it. He screamed, realizing how painful it would be to land at this terrifying speed. Hagrid, he could see, had pulled out his wand, but Hagrid wouldn't be fast enough. |
[[Well it looks really great c: and congratulations. ]]
Harry nodded, they indeed look like they were going to try something and it would surprise him, if they didn’t try something. Besides, Hagrid was probably the best teacher to try something around; chances were he wouldn’t be able to stop it before it happened. He loved Hagrid, and admired him, but in the magic department he wasn’t the best, but that was only because he had been expelled way back. He was about to try and say something to help Draco, so he didn’t have to do it, but it was already too late, and Hagrid had dragged him off. Well, at least he wouldn’t be by the Slytherins for a few moments and would actually get to enjoy himself, maybe a little. Once Draco was out of view, he glanced over at the Slytherins and watched them carefully, it really did look like they were going to try something, he just wasn’t sure what, or when. But it seemed like once he was heading back his question was answered. For a moment he stood there wondering what he was supposed to do, then he remembered that one spell that Dumbledore had used, back in his third year when he had fallen off his broom because of the Dementors. Without waiting an extra second, he pulled out his wand “Aresto Momentum” he said as he pointed his wand at Draco. He had seen how Hagrid had pulled out his wand, but he didn’t want him to get in trouble for using magic, and not to mention it didn’t seem like his reaction time was fast enough. |
Draco was immensely relieved when Harry's spell hit him, and kept him from crashing headfirst into the trees near the class. Once he was down safely, he sprinted for his wand, which was back some 50 feet from where the Thestral was now coming back to consciousness. It blinked, shook its head, and went careening off into the Forbidden Forest, where it vanished from sight in a few seconds.
Draco dived for his wand, got it, and sprinted back towards the class, absolutely furious. "What the bloody hell do you think you're doing?" he shouted at the Slytherins once he'd re-positioned himself next to Harry. Hagrid, too, was bellowing at them, taking off a few hundred House points, and assigning detention with Filch for every one of them. Hagrid, though, seemed to think that the attack had been at the Thestral, not at Draco. The Slytherins, though, were now mute and silent, and refused to answer any questions or respond to Draco's angry words. Pansy and Nott glared at him, and Millicent cracked her knuckles. Blaise Zabini, meanwhile, was looking Draco up and down with a very knowing smirk. Draco sent the nastiest, snidest look he could back at Blaise, but the other boy continued to merely smile condescendingly. "Watch it, Malfoy," was all Nott said. He turned to the furious Hagrid and said, sarcastically, "I'm very sorry, Professor Hagrid, that we hit the Thestral. We thought it was careening out of control, and we were worried about its safety." "Like hell you were," Hagrid rumbled. "All of you, put your wands away! I don't want to see any more pranks like that in my class. If I see another wand out, I'll be taking you straight to the Headmaster. He'll hear about this, mark my words." Draco sighed and whispered into Harry's ear, "Thanks. You saved my life. That's two I owe you now, in one day. We need to do something soon, though, or this'll just keep happening." |
