Shadow Metro: A Sprinkles RPG [MINI-DEMONS ARE CRUNCHY!]

It was dusk in Dash City. As the sun went down behind tall apartment and office buildings, lights behind the windows and along the busy streets gradually flickered on. Car headlights turned on, too, and together they vied with the alleyway shadows for dominance over the evening. It was like that every night in the city. It was like that in the day as well, though Order had more purchase in the sun. It was Chaos, the disruption of the frantic patterns of the metropolis, that ruled under the moonlight.

By all accounts, Dash had balance. Or at least it had, until three nights ago or so, when a local leader of the city's Arcane world had been found murdered in his riverside mansion. He had been of the Order, and murder (or, at least, the messy sort he'd been a victim of) was of the Chaos. That was the rumor as Anya had heard it, from the owner of her favorite hole-in-the wall bar. Ezra always liked to talk as she sipped her ritual after-work beer, and she suspected he found her as fascinating as she found him. He was a tall black man, with deep brown skin, broad shoulders, and a spark in his eyes that even the Mundane city folk would recognize. Anya still didn't know what he was, really, and she limited her guesses to one or two per week. It had been an ongoing game, and she was running out of ideas. Eventually, she'd earn a free mug of stout, though.

This evening she'd left the bar early, driven to distraction by the nagging feeling that the murder was only the beginning of a bigger conflict. Ezra, distracted himself, seemed to understand. They were both of the Order, after all, and if the Chaos escalated… She shuddered, long legs carrying her up the stairs to her small apartment. She should have been gawky, but she seemed to move almost at a glide. Always had, and it was impossible to conceal. Anya was Naga, after all, and even on legs her people retained a serpentine grace.

The phone rang just as she had shed her human skin in favor of her long, comfortable tail. She rushed to grab it, hoping for good news, or at least a telemarketer. They were easy enough to hang up on. "Hello," she answered, clearly in spite of her short fangs and forked tongue. "May I ask who's calling?"

RULES AND GUIDELINES:

Welcome to Shadow Metro. This is a private RP for regulars of the Sprinkles, Not Jimmies hangout thread. If you're a regular, and like to write, then welcome aboard. If you're not a regular… well, what are you waiting for?

This is an open-ended story. The players will determine where it goes. The setting is a city, and the players will construct it as they go, if that makes any sense. All character classes and races, whether they are from traditional fantasy, urban fantasy, sci-fi, or your own imagination, are welcome. All characters, however, must be able to hide their Arcane nature from the Mundane world. How is up to you. (Characters need not be Arcane, either!)

Characters and character sheets:

I am not asking for them, and images are optional. I would like to keep track of who is playing whom, though. So when you feel comfortable with where your character is going, PM me a paragraph or two describing them. Appearance, personality, race, ability, strengths, weaknesses… Whatever you feel is important. I'll post them and pictures on the front page as I get them. If you do want to submit a character sheet, that's fine, too. PM it to me or post it in the OOC thread, and I'll get it up there!

Avatars representing your characters, either in or out of human disguise, are also acceptable.

Also note that any Arcane characters may be either of the Chaos or of the Order. These are not necessarily enemy camps, depending on the plot, but… we'll see how that goes.

Other guidelines:

1. Follow Menewsha ToS. (Good advice anytime.)
2. Romance is fine, but keep it PG-13.
3. No godmoding. A good character should have strengths and weaknesses.
4. No killing of characters without the express written consent of those controlling them. If you want out of the game, death doesn't have to be the answer. (Or if it is, death doesn't have to be the end, either. This is fantasy, after all!)
5. Please try to post regularly. We all have lives, and the dungeon master is as guilty as anyone of neglecting her games. Reminders via PM between players are encouraged.
6. The dungeon master is relatively inexperienced. Please limit it to two characters per person, one Chaos, one Order. NPCs don't count.
NEW RULE---> 7. The person who first introduces a new Arcane race into the game retains creative control over that race. Please consult the first person if you want to introduce another character of that race. You can find who plays what in the quick key in the post below this one.
8. Have fun! This is a Sprinkles RP. Serious is not part of the expectations.

PLAYERS AND CHARACTERS:

Player CharactersX

Cicadetta:
Quote:

Name: Anya Savin Holm
Nickname: Ash

Age: 29

Species: Naga

Alignment: Order

Appearance: At over six feet tall, and whip thin besides, Anya looks as though she ought to be awkward in human form. But, well practiced at walking on two legs, she is anything but. The better to pass for human. Theoretically, anyway.

Long, straight, dark brown hair frames a lightly tanned face dominated by curious dark eyes that never seem to blink as often as they ought to.

Her patron serpent is the Eastern coral snake. As such, in her Naga form, her tail is striped in black, red and yellow, and her fangs are fairly small (for a Naga), and non-retractable. With the exceptions of clawed fingers, snake eyes, fangs and forked tongue, she looks human from the waist up.

Background and Personality: Anya works as a legal secretary for the local public defender. It is not as fulfilling as one might think. With the exception of her few routine contacts, outside of her job she is a loner and a recluse, preferring to spend time in her apartment, coiled up in front of the television, watching the Discovery Channel. But she is curious. If anything can get her out into the world, it is a good mystery. Not that she's much of a detective, but she tries.

Strengths: She can move quickly when she needs to, and change forms at a moment's notice if the need arises. She possesses mild powers of hypnotism, and highly potent venom. (Venom potency varies by Naga, but the other abilities are typical.) Her senses are keen, and she has a great eye for detail. Perhaps most importantly, she keeps strict control over her reptilian brain, and is no slave to emotion.

Weaknesses: Anya is rarely motivated and reclusive, with few social contacts outside of work. She's small and weak, for a Naga, not to mention young. This sets her low in the hierarchy at the local Pit (Dash City's gathering place for serpent-kin.) It doesn't help that she has difficulty seeing the big picture. Any mystery-solving on her part generally requires a team-up with someone who can see the forest for the trees.

Quote:

Name: Theodore "Ted" Mason

Age: 76

Species: Unicorn

Alignment: Chaos

Appearance: In human form, Ted is a slender, rather small, pretty man of perhaps five feet tall. His skin is pale enough that he could pass for albino, though it is not prone to sunburn or blemish. He has eyes blue as the sky, and long, pale blond hair that, in the right light, seems to reflect rainbows. To mundanes, he looks twenty-something, unicorns not being prone to the effects of aging, and exudes an aura of innocence. The fact that he dresses like a hippy, complete with vintage bell bottoms, just adds to the image.

In true form, Ted is just what you'd imagine a classic unicorn to be: delicate, white, and cloven-hoofed with a silky mane, a long gleaming golden spiral horn, and knowing sky-blue eyes.

Background and Personality: Ted, being a unicorn, is a vegan and all about the organic vegetables. He may or may not be a member of PETA. (He admits to nothing.) He advocates life in all its forms but, like most unicorns, believes that it is in the nature of life to be unrestrained and chaotic. If that means a major kudzu infestation, then, well, how cool is that? Live and let live, man, and bring in some goats if they're hungry. Let it not be said that unicorns are logical. Or scientific. This particular fellow runs an organic vegetable farm on the outskirts of Dash City and delights in spreading new life wherever he can!

Strengths: Ted can switch magically between human and unicorn forms, with no clothing issues. He heals rapidly, and runs even more rapidly when he wants to. This works in either form, but four legs is faster. He's a healer and a water purifier, as unicorns tend to be. But his special talent, even his obsession, is essentially adding new life to places. Plant, animal, mundane, arcane. Doesn't matter. It's what he does. (It's why his organic farm is so successful, actually! Exotic munchies! Yum!)

Weaknesses: This guy is short-sighted, and reckless. And single-minded. Life above all, but life at the expense of other life is okay, so long as people don't eat meat and stuff. Plants are okay, though. Again, logic is not his strong suit. He'll do just about anything for a pretty woman, though. She doesn't have to be a virgin or anything. Just… female. And pretty.

Wings of Writing:

Quote:

Name:Zariana Fournier, called Zaria (wings had fun searching french names)

Age: 21

Appearance: Tall and thin, Zaria looks like the typically human model when you look at her. But if you get close enough to study her, and really pay attention you may noticed a hint of red in her golden honey eyes and perhaps her canine teeth are a sharper than they should be. Perhaps her ears stick out a bit pointier than normal, but you wouldn't know that unless you really loooked. She has long light brownish red hair, it lands at mid waist. She typically wears a short midriff tanktop showing off her flat stomach and short shorts that show of her long legs. Zaria is sexy and she knows it and flaunts it.

Race: Half vampire/ half elf

Alignment: Chaos

Race: dreamwalker (meaning he can wanderer into people dreams and influence them or just talk to people through their dreams)

Alignment: Order

Appearance and personality: As typical of his race Tait is unbelievably handsome. His black hair falls in the perfect wave across his face, obscuring one green eye. He has dark tanned skin and the sun glints off of it in the perfect way. His race is meant to be handsome however, they are the ultimate deceivers, except Tait. Typically a pretty face hides a Chaos interior but Tait has left his people and doesn't use his dreamwalking abilities for anything but helpful means. Tait is shy and softspoken at first but tends to open up a bit more after you get to know him. He doesn't make getting to know him exactly easy, but those he counts among his friends are guaranteed to be protected. He typically wears a pair of tight black pants and a dark green button up shirt, though he tends to leave the top most buttons unbutton showing off his chest, the way all dreamwalkers would dress, it's just the right way to dress to him he isn't being cocky, though he's definitely proud of his good looks. Is waging a personal war against his family since they cast him out when he declared he was of the Order and not the Chaos as was expected of him.

Well, here's Heather :3

Name: Heather O’Leary

Image/Appearance (can just be description):
Heather has a rather round face and a straight, freckle ridden nose, her eyes are a normal, ordinary blue and rather unremarkable. When she was younger Heather wore her honey brown hair straight but as she's grown she's started keeping it in a high ponytail to keep it out of her way, she's also rather short for her age. She always wears her high-top sunshine yellow converse and she prefers longer shirts and will NEVER willingly wear a dress. In the beginning of the RP she's wearing her converse, brown 3/4 shorts, a long short-sleeved shirt with baby-blue and white horizontal stripes and candy-pink leggings. When she's in her fairy form her wings are like that of a blue emperor butterfly and are as big as she is.
Outfit - Wings

Race: Fairy

Alignment: Order

Age: 14

Personality: Bubbly, rather spastic, loves the outdoors, airheaded... You get the idea

Background story/History (Hometown, Parents...):
Heather lives with her parents, her mother, Laura O'Leary, is a wood sprite and her father, Daniel O'Leary, is a fairy. The rest may or may not be revealed during the Roleplay.

Stengths:
Heather can fly, she has the ability to retract her wings and she is a fast learner.

Weaknesses: Heather is afraid of storms due to bad childhood experiences, as she is young she has less experience than most of the party, she may also have worse judgment. Heather is also very trusting, so that can also lead to betrayals and various other nasty predicaments.

Species: Gargoyle

During the day, JJ is like any other stone gargoyle on a building. She has her usual spot to rest when the sun comes up. But during the night, she turns into a mobile winged creature that resembles the stone she is during the day. She has a snout and fangs and has dark grey, scaly almost, skin. (I’ll draw a picture I promise). Her eyes are black completely and her hair short and grayish. All in all, a rather scary looking creature.

Strength: She’s strong and can fly as well as see well in the dark. She is capable of very short term illusions which she uses to look human though the illusion lasts for only a very short time. Maybe a full minute. oh and gargoyles live a long time because they're only awake half time.

Weakness: during the night she returns to stone and has to take care to find a spot to roost, preferably on the top of a building or somewhere out of sight. When in stone form, she is vulnerable and incapable of movement though she is aware and can break the same as stone or crack and such on.

Species: were dragon

Alignment: order

Gabriel is a tall man with pale, but not unhealthy looking skin. His hair is an unusual color of blue and is cut shaggy so that it falls into his eyes. His eyes are silver at the center, then rimmed in black. Despite looking so unusual, he fits in well. His smile is almost mesmerizing and people tend to just remember how handsome he is rather than the silver glow in his eyes. People just assume he dyed his hair.

He tends to were all white and there’s rarely a speck of dust on the pants or button up top. Even his shoes are white boots.
In his dragon form, he has about a 20 foot wingspan. His scales are the color of sapphires with streaks of silver along the edges and along his stomach and he seems to glitter a bit like he’s made of silver and gems. He rarely uses this form though because it’s rather hard to hide such an impressive looking dragon in a city. He only takes the form to fly every now and again over the surrounding countryside so his wings don’t get stiff.

Strength: a dragon is rather powerful and really difficult to kill. His scales are hard to penetrate even with gun. It would take something of high caliber to seriously hurt him in dragon form. As a human his eyesight is as suburb as it is as a dragon and he has a bit of a 6th sense that allows him to know when he or those he protects are in danger.

Weakness: his biggest weakness is the moment between human and dragon form. A well aimed, just about anything could take him out, but it’s only a split moment. Other than that, he’s willing to protect people at the expense of his own life. He nearly died in the past saving a young woman. She died instead of him and he vowed never to let that happen again.

Appearance: In human form, standing at a daunting 6'6", Orpheus has a clean-shaven head, although he usually sports a worn fedora. His eyes are large and almost bug-like. He likes to sport a single maroon suit at all times, although his shirts vary from black to slate gray... No real variation there.
In his "triggered"/"affected" state, he appears as such: Click

Race: Anthropomorphic Lobster

Alignment: Chaos

Age: Mid-Forties

Personality: Orpheus is a bit... Simple-minded, to say the least. Even as one of the Arcane, who are looked towards as being more on the sophisticated side, he isn't one of the brightest bulbs. Hell, most Mundanes with collegiate degrees make him look bad.
Besides his simplicity, he's pretty one-dimensional. Keeps track of the local sports, eats in the local seafood joints, conducts his "business" without question. At the first of the month, half of his earnings are immediately withdrawn from his account and put in his ex-wife's; half of the remaining sum is then stashed away for retirement. Then whatever's left goes to his own daily needs. Simple, simple, simple.

History: Has two kids, who live with his ex-wife, Maureen. Never really sees them, except on Christmas Eve and for a week in the summer.

Whatever else there is to know shall be discovered throughout RPs, both to me as well as my fellow RPers. Will hopefully add to this at a later date.

Strengths: He can really pack a punch... And he can also stretch a dollar pretty far. Oh, and if you're one for seafood, he's your guy for recommendations as to what the happenin' joints are.

Weaknesses: Needs everything dumbed down for him. Everything. He's also dyslexic, and self-consciously so. As of late, he's taken to demanding others read stuff for him - that's how embarrassed he is of it.

Other Interesting Facts:
-Orphy is a hitman, as well as a mobster. He conducts the simpler ends of business transactions for "the family," as well as "taking out the trash" when need be. He's trying to get away from that, though; he went so far as to even take summer courses in Accounting in order to be up-to-par as something other than a meathead.
-Whether in human or "lobster man" form, there is a strong scent of fish around him. Strong. When confronted about it, he just passes it off as having had a bad tuna melt for lunch.
-As the atypical lycanthrope turns into their wolf form at midnight, Orphy transforms into his lobster form whenever immensely aggravated. All it usually takes him is the thought of his ex-wife, and he's good to go.
-He conducts most of his "hits" in his lobster form, these days. He's gotten a bit pudgy over the years, and as such hardly classifies as a proper hitman in human form.

Age: 34 | Race: Human | Order: of the Chaos | Height: 6'2" | Build: Athletic | Hair: Reddish-Brown | Eyes: Green-Grey | Complexion: Fair

Looks:
Max is known for his harsh and unforgiving demeanor, and his stark, yet handsome features. He is a well-kept man, clean and tidy, even his hair, which is quite shaggy, seems perfectly in place. Each freckle from the tip of his nose, to the tops of his cheeks are as if they were put there on purpose, matching his movements, which seem borderline robotic at times. Always well-dressed, yet casual, he can be found in a pair of slacks (always black) and a buttoned up shirt, always left untucked, but perfectly wrinkle free, and the sleeves were rolled up exactly three times, stopping just before his elbow.

Personality:
What most others don't notice about Max (as everything seems so purposeful) is that he is obsessive compulsive. Things must be done in groups of threes, repetitive sounds will drive him to insanity, and neatness is priority. These slight design flaws in his personality are made up by his cool attitude, and his ability to stay calm no matter the situation. it is not known of a time when anyone has seen Max shudder at the threat of danger. Though he isn't stupid, his intelligence is incredible, but he is haughty and feels he is better than everyone else.

Little is known about the mysterious human, aside from what he allows to show. One day he showed up in the city and worked his way up the ladder until he became an important member, and well-known. Due to the strange creatures that he shares the city with, he generally has his three "body-guards", vicious cat-like creatures, all white in hue, aside from various markings in browns and reds in their fur. They stand at the size of a leopard, and obey every command.

He considers himself among the highest wealth and class in the city, and generally, people don't bother to argue with him (as he is quite good at finding a way to ruin ones life). His manor is located along the city outskirts, decadent and lavish in style, though secure. Being a human he finds himself overly cautious, and takes extra precautions, though not blatantly so, as to let others know that he "fears" them.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

18 September, 2010: Gah, sorry for the delay, Dash Citizens! Between my cold and my online class and getting back into a regular routine after that trip to Jersey... Well, there's really no excuse, but I'm making one anyway. I've been preoccupied and groggy. But! There's an update for you now! :)

4 September, 2010: Everybody into the rhythm of the new semester now? Good. Well, I'm not, but I'm getting there. Anyway, sorry about the delay. I have had a long week, and now that I've had some sleep and found some motivation, I'm good to go again. Do not let this game take away from your work. But I don't want to see it die, either. Most of you have been pinged. Didn't seen the sense in pinging myself, though I could. Hm. Anyway. Shadow Metro is still up and running!

17 August, 2010: There are currently two timelines now. The main group has experienced a time jump to evening of the first day. Which means Kat can bring in JJ! :eager: Ted and Max are still stuck in the morning, but hopefully we can get them caught up. We'll all have to bug Kitteh about that... Anyway, I really did have fun writing the diner scene. And Maxine. Her race and alignment should be pretty obvious, but hey, we have a chaotic vampire, so why not? :)

9 August, 2010: We are almost (I think) to the next scene of this game! Once Gabriel and Zaria's conversation wraps up (and it's a very entertaining conversation), the main group will be pushed ahead the evening of Day 1 and the diner. And we'll be able to bring JJ back into play! :boogie: Ted and Max may remain on a slightly different timeline, but they'll catch up pretty soon, I think. (Max is determined to catch those imps, isn't he?) We'll see... Anyway, you guys are great. XD

30 July, 2010: Kat is, of course, back from her vacation. And I am back from mine, though I'm not quite recovered, yet. It will take a few good nights of real sleep before that'll happen. But the point is, we're out of semi-hiatus, since I think everyone who has been playing is back and active now.

17 July, 2010: This week, Kat (JJ and Gabriel) will be off on a working vacation. By the time she comes back, your loyal DM will be on the road (or rather, rail) to Philadelphia, and will be gone most of the week. What does this mean? About two weeks of semi-hiatus. This would be an ideal time to chill in the OOC thread, discuss future subplots, where the heck to go with the David the gnome murder mystery, how to introduce certain crustaceans into the game (*cough*Facade:*cough*), and which characters will enter into love triangles/quadrangles/etc.

zeapear 07-08-2010 12:22 AM

Heather's heart was pounding in anticipation as she watched the people below her go about their business, both of her parents were away working for the order so she'd been left home alone for the entire weekend; supposedly to defend the house if anyone came but Heather suspected the more probable reason was that they didn't want her bothering them while they were working. It was true that the death of the Arcane leader of Order had frightened Heather, not nearly as much as it had scared her parents, not enough to stop her from going on the evening flights she was so fond of, who would want to prey upon a harmless, pubescent fairy? As the last evening stragglers returned home Heather spread her enormous emperor blue wings, and leapt from the building. Reveling in the few moments of free-fall before her wings caught a thermal updraft, she cried out in glee. Those mundane's don't know what they're missing out on! she thought, releasing another wordless cry of pure joy as she did a loop d' loop. Hoisting her satchel higher up on her arm she flew over and landed on the roof of the church, the tallest and most sheltered area for ages in any direction. Heather opened her bag, pulling out a sandwich and water-proof cushion, scanning her surroundings for the perfect spot to sit and watch the sunset while she did so. She noticed a gargoyle, It was in the perfect line of sunlight. clutching her cushion and sadwich she wandered over and sat next to the statue, tracing the lines of It's face with her fingers. It was very life-like, and very fierce. Turning back towards the sunset Heather sighed, there really was nothing more magnificent than watching the sky go pink, orange, purple and blue with the hues of sunset, not even flying.

Kat Dakuu 07-08-2010 01:23 AM

The sun was setting in a brilliant display or oranges and pink, making JJ's stone form a silhouette against the sky's brightness. It was only minutes until the gargoyle could shed her stone form and she was excited as always. It didn't take long before the eastern side of the sky was black rather than blue and when the sun was finally below the horizon, JJ opened her eyes. Her eyes always opened first, even before the sun was fully set. The rest of her was still stiff stone, appearing to have been made of granite. she felt a hand touch her just as the last of the sun's rays disappeared beyond the horizon. Her rough gargoyle stone cracked, then softened, turning into course grey flesh. She quickly stood, startled to see a blue-winged girl next to her. JJ growled, showing off a row of fangs. "What are you doing?!!" she snarled.

zeapear 07-08-2010 01:37 AM

Heather gave out a small strangled noise and scrambled backwards, this was not an ordinary gargoyle. Heart pounding from the initial shock she stammered out a reply to her (it appeared to be female) question, "P-please don't hurt me, I w-was just coming up h-here to watch the s-sunset, s-sorry if I disturbed you...". The gargoyle was even more terrifying than when it was inanimate stone, it was really making Heather uncomfortable the way its eyes never seemed to blink as they bore into her own. Shakily lifting herself to her feet Heather bowed to the creature, if there was one thing her parents had taught her it was that starting a relationship in an unfriendly manner usually ends up getting you an enemy.

Kat Dakuu 07-08-2010 01:45 AM

JJ narrowed her black eyes at the girl, unsure of what to make of her. maybe she should just eat the girl and the situation would be solved. She was hungry since she hadn't eaten the previous night, but she discarded the girl. Who knew what trouble she would be into if she killed a child. It likely belonged to someone, someone who would want revenge. And who knew, a silly looking creature with butterfly wings might give her indigestion.
"Ugh, stop your stammering and apologizing or else I really might hurt you!" JJ snarled and turned away from the girl, stretching out her wings. God she was so stiff!

zeapear 07-08-2010 01:59 AM

Biting back tears Heather picked up her satchel and jumped off of the steeple, wings already spread she picked up a thermal updraft almost immediately, not daring to look back she flew away, back towards the distant box that was her parent's apartment. When she finally reached the building she realised she didn't have her key, it must have fallen out of her satchel... In her rush to get out of the gargoyle's way she must have left her key at the church. Swallowing her fear, Heather took a deep breath and headed back towards the distant building, every fibre of her being screaming at her to go back. She could just make out the dark splodge that was the gargoyle out against the evening sky, she was still stretching her wings. Trying to slow her breating, Heather quietly landed on the roof, trying to make as little sound as possible. After quickly scanning the area where she'd been sitting he could just make out the glimmer of metal, her key. Unfortunately it was right next to the gargoyles stone grey foot.

Kat Dakuu 07-08-2010 02:11 AM

JJ smiled, not quite the friendly sight it should have been with her gargoyle face, as the girl flew away in fear. She thanked the stars that she was alone again, the way she liked it. She stretched her arms over her head and shook out her feet before snapping out her wings with an audible snap. Finally she looked over the edge of the building at the city below. She lifted her head, smelling the air for something to eat. She smelled something, something very close to her. she whirled around suddenly and spotted the girl trying to creep towards her. "YOU!" JJ yelped. "I thought I already scared you off!!"

zeapear 07-08-2010 02:34 AM

Heather, now that she was mentally prepared, didn't hesitate to reply, only a slight waver in her voice. "I dropped the key to my apartment on the roof here, It's right by your foot." She inched forwards, "I'd much appreciate it if you'd let me have it back." The edge of fear was still there but now now Heather's voice was somehow commanding, giving her an air of authority. She inched forward again, now the gargoyle (and her key) was only 5 feet away. Biting her bottom lip she stared the gargoyle in the eye, trying not to betray the sea of emotions trying to tell her to run, fight, surrender...

JJ looked down at her feet in surprise. Sure enough, there was a key. she picked it up and twirled it around in her hand for a moment, thinking. At least the girl wasn't acting like a scaredy baby now which was really something considered what JJ looked like. she was like a monster straight out of some kids nightmare. She decided to reward the girl for acting brave and tossed her the key. "Sure, now go run along and play with dolls or something and leave me alone!" In one wing-beat, she was already 6 feet in the air and back to trying t find food.

Nimbly catching the key Heather smiled and sighed in relief, she wasn't dead. Yet. As the Figure of the gargoyle grew distant she shouted at the top of her lungs "My name is Heather and I'm 14, I don't play with dolls!". She was still smiling when she jumped off of the steeple, the sky suddenly seemed lighter and the stars brighter than ever before, she was alive! I guess it only takes a near death situation to really make you appreciate living. she thought, and promptly swooped down upon her apartment block. Once the door was unlocked Heather walked in and grabbed her sandwich, planning to eat it before she went to bed but the days events had thoroughly conked her out so she ended up abandoning the untouched food and falling asleep instead, not even bothering to change out of her day clothes or take of her beloved converse shoes.

JJ laughed as the girl yelled back at her. She wasn't sure why Heather bothered to tell JJ her name. it wasn't like the gargoyle cared, but the girl amused her. Still chuckling lightly, she flew away from the building and swooped over roofs and around alleys, following the scent of the small creatures that lived in the filthier areas of the city. She closed her wings and quickly dropped, using her talon like feet to grab a mangy looking medium sized dog that was scrounging through some trash. She flew up to the top of a relatively tall building after breaking its neck and started to eat.

In her dream Heather was walking though a long room, on either side of here were gigantic, towering statues. They had no eyes or noses but they had huge gaping mouths filled with row upon row of sharp teeth, the statues were coated in a dark reddish crust, dried blood. Even though she knew it wasn't safe the Heather in the dream continued walking, walking for an impossibly long time. When she reached the end of the hall and turned around the statues were gone. She picked up a sword which happened to be lying in front of her and started walking back down the hall. She could hear the scrape of stone upon wood and she started to run, she needed to get out of his room. The end of the hall never got any closer but the noises did, Scraaaape, Scraaaape, Scraaaape...

It wasn't such a horrible neighborhood, Kesha thought to herself as she watched the children play under the streetlights. She was just a retail clerk, forced to move to a rent-controlled apartment after a particularly messy divorce. Custody of her daughter had been awarded to her, but not much else. Her ex had been abusive, but his manipulation abilities had helped him in court.

This was fine, though. The park was well-illuminated, though spotted with struggling maple trees and see-saws, and the children loved to play here. Right now, an hour or so before their bedtimes, a group of them -- fourth and fifth graders, mostly -- organized an evening game of kickball. Or maybe dodgeball. If it was the latter, the parents who looked on would break it up. It seemed to be kickball tonight, though. The children, or at least the fifth graders, already looked forward to junior high, and the magical illusion of adulthood. They were determined to act like adults, or try. Not that it worked, but it did mean that the ready first aid kits didn't see as much use as they had in earlier years.

Tonight felt wrong to Kesha, though, in spite of Notre Dame's little brother in the distance, which normally made her feel safe. There was nothing wrong on the surface, but if something or someone was nearby shouldn't have been… Well, she was just an ordinary woman, but she trusted her mother's instinct.

"Betsy," she called. "Time to come in!"

"But Mooo-oom!" the girl in scruffy jeans and a thrift-store t-shirt replied, "We just started!"

"Don't you have a test tomorrow?"

"No!"

"Homework, then. Come in and study. It's late."

Betsy turned to look at her mother, ready to protest even louder, when something caught her eye. A shadow at the top of her apartment building. Just a smudge, really, from the distance, but her eyes were keen enough. "Mom, what's that?" she pointed directly at the shadow.

Kesha squinted, and stared, trying to make out what her daughter was looking at. "I don't know, Betsy, I really don't."

Taityn Emryson, dreamwalker, was out for his nightly stroll, though his type of nightly stroll was much different than the average mundanes, heck even the average Arcane's nightly strool. No Tait did not go for a walk down a boring street, instead he roamed through peoples dreams, enjoying seeing what crazy thing people could dream up. Though as a general rule Tait did avoid entering nightmares, he always found it particulary hard to avoid interefering in those. Especially when they were the nightmares of a child, but Tait had taken an oath when he turned to the Order, he had promised that he would not interefere willy nilly in the dreams of others, unlike dreamwalkers of the Chaos. So when he found himself in the middle of a nightmare, drawn there by some inexplicable reason, Tait was shocked. He looked around, knowing from the feel of the dream it was a nightmare, but not certain what it was about. Tait wandered through the empy hall looking for the creator of the dream, now that he was here determined to investigate. What he found was a young teenager, surround by threatening statues that were covered in blood, he almost stepped forward to rescue the girl when he noticed she held a sword. He grinned, it seemed this girl was no weakling, he stopped to watch, curious to see how this dream would unfold.

JJ sensed eyes on her and looked down at the park that was below the building. it was too well lit for her likes and now that she was well fed, she realized what a horrid place to perch this building was. She stilled instinctively, crouching down like a normal gargoyle and hoped that they didn't bother to investigate. she could kill them, but she could see others at the park and watching the children. she wasn't about to put herself in a situation that involved angry townfolk chasing her with pitchforks.

Heather, not noticing Tait, gave out a menacing hiss and said in a voice unlike her own "Leave, you soulless wraiths, for I wield the sword of Order and you are Chaos. Leave before you are slain." Not knowing where the words had come from, they had just left her mouth of their own accord Heather stumbled back. The statues stopped advancing and started to crumble, they gave out metallic screeches as they disintegrated, setting Heather's teeth on edge. Looking around for the exit she noticed someone in the shadows. She paused and tightened the grip on her sword.

Tait eyes widened, he was impressed. This girl definitely did not look like she would be able to present such a front when faced with such terrifying beasts. He stepped out of the shadows, applauding her. "I'm surprised, most young girls I encounteer in nightmares don't stand and fight. You are definitely an exception to the rule."

zeapear 07-08-2010 04:10 AM

Heather gasped and almost dropped her sword when the man walked out of the shadows, Heather wasn't normally the type to get swoony but boy, he was handsome. She dug her finger nails into her palms and replied; "Um... I guess... Um... Who are you...?" Smooth move, Heather mentally kicked herself. This guy looked like he was in his early twenty, maybe even in his teens but he was way too old. Snap out of it, you lovesick baby! Heather said to herself, He's probably only part of your imagination!

Wings of Writing 07-08-2010 04:12 AM

Tait chuckled slightly at her and held out his hand cordially, "I'm Taityn, but you can call me Tait," he paused studying her but figured she would probably think this all just a dream when it was said and done and said, "I'm not a part of your imagination if you are wondering, I'm what is called a dream walker, we are capable of wandering through dreams at will."

zeapear 07-08-2010 04:17 AM

Heather watched his lips move, the movements they made were so fluid, beautiful, perfect... When he stuck out his hand Heather was startled back to reality, she tentatively grabbed it, his skin with so smooth... "I'm Heather, I'm a fairy. N-nice to meet you, Tait." She said, what a strange name, 'Tait'... It made her think of potatoes...

Wings of Writing 07-08-2010 04:24 AM

Tait's eyes widened, so she was of the Arcane, that meant she would remember him in the morning. He looked at her suddenly feeling awkward, it wasn't really proper to be in a young girls dream, "I'm sorry for intruding on your dream. He looked at her and looked away from her, "I should probably go, I typically avoid nightmares, and I'm still not entirely certain of how I ended up here."
