One of the closing acts for the Jester's Street Circus is Keyori's Sky-High Clam Assault! This death-defying stunt includes inflating several large balloons with helium and floating a mile above Menewsha, and once there, trying to drop a large bucket of clams onto a target on the stage the size of a penny. Then, she will use a small safety pin to systematically pop each balloon until she floats safely back onto the stage. She will then autograph any remaining balloons and pass them on to small children.

This stunt is very dangerous, and requires several special components to her costume. First and foremost, she represents her team with her stylish jester hat. Appearance is everything! The goggles are to protect her eyes from unfavorable weather conditions in the sky, and to keep birds from pecking her eyes out for invading their air space. Next, she is holding on to several mis-matching balloons. She requires so many balloons that she bought out all of the balloons that existed on the island of Menewsha! (She certainly feels fat)

She is wearing a walkie headset to keep in communication with the ground coordinator, who will direct her safe landing. She is also wearing a wide skirt with a cage. Should she enter free-fall, the skirt will act as a parachute, slowing her fall, and the cage helps keep the skirt from inverting like an umbrella in a bad rain storm. She is also wearing a helmet should she hit her head on a tree branch on the way back down, and she has a pair of emergency anklewings to also help slow her descent, and to help her more easily change direction so that she does not land on an undesireable target, such as a large cactus, porcupine, or Yumeh.

One of the Jesters’ more delicate and sophisticated performances is called the Lady of the Puddle’s Amazing Snorkeling and Underwater Fish-Taming Act! In this act, lady Belly does a high wire dive into a small puddle, snorkels her way down to the bottom, and proceeds to tame a ferocious goldfish who then becomes her willing servant for 3.9 minutes!

What makes this act unique is not only that it occurs primarily underwater, but that the Lady of the Puddle performs her amazing feat of fish-taming while covered in roses (which is uncomfortable what with the poking of the thorns and all that) and while wearing a brass monocle (which makes her head slightly heavier than it would ordinarily be)!

As the designer, I will now discuss the components of the costume. Belly’s hair must be wrapped and flattened down so that she may wear a sleek diving wig in a bright green, one of the traditional theme colors of the Feast of Fools. She will apply large yellow flowers at each temple (another of the Feast’s lovely colors), as well as donning a generous waist sash in the same shade of yellow that gently cascades downward from her round bottom to her heels. Now here’s where the outfit becomes a bit dangerous: her brave teammate Linnea will then begin to gently wind a brambly vine of wild roses around her body, from head to toe. We chose pink for a touch of femininity. Belly must be very careful not to sneeze at this point, so Keyori will have to stuff a small marshmallow into each nostril (and hopefully remember to remove them later). The final touches will be to assemble the special snorkel, made with bits of an old steampunk hat, and then affix the special brass diving monocle. Voila!
