@ Yue - I do not think Gambling is a good idea for the site.

strange_dreams_512 07-11-2010 11:08 PM

Man, everyone sure has a lot to say. It's great that Inso made this post. Maybe we can figure out something that really works. (: Anywho I figured I would share this picture I just made. I'm sure you all know where this picture came from.

I really do hope this all works out soon. I have faith in that it will in time, but it will a handful of us to really get this going.

Edit: Feel free to use this just as long as you don't claim it as your own. I mean, I'm not claiming the main picture of it. I just altered it but ya. Code here:

Kaema 07-11-2010 11:08 PM

I don't really like the idea of gambling either.

Silver: I didn't mean something to customize your profile like that...I mean like, um, little gadget like things to put in your profile. Know what I mean...?
Although I guess you're right that it's probably not possible. o.o

Silver Crusnik 07-11-2010 11:08 PM

@Yue: Hmm...I'm not certain if that would tide over well. There's a stigma about gambling, and it would make mene look rather...user unfriendly. True, many of us are over 18-21/legal age to gamble in a casino...but what of those of us who aren't? Not myself included, but that's neither here nor there. People can lie about their age online, and this would only encourage such things. Would you want a 14 year old gambling just to make Menewsha some green?

I'm sorry to sound so negative, I"m just trying to create a perspective.

Soryko 07-11-2010 11:10 PM

I still like the idea of group games the most. o-o
Not casino ones but..group games in general. Board games, and drawing games.

~Yue~ 07-11-2010 11:11 PM

Well the laws on gambling only affect if it is used to put real money in your pockets. This would be a pay to play, for site based items and money. Which isn't bound by the normal laws of gambling and could be used by anyone not just those above 18. It would be like a normal casino in every way but you get site stuff.

----------

Sorkyo: That is a really good idea, but why would people pay to play a game like that online when they have sites for that already? It would be hard to get the rights to charge people for that kind of thing. Due to copywrite and trademark laws.

Soryko 07-11-2010 11:14 PM

@Yue
I didn't mean people would pay for them! o.o I'm thinking more along the lines of getting more people to the site. And I mentioned earlier, like for the board game, using the sites NPC's as a theme.

Not sure bout the drawing board stuff though.

Silver Crusnik 07-11-2010 11:15 PM

Even so, Kaema, a little gadget would take quite a bit of coding, and you're being sort of unspecific so I'm not quite sure as to whate exactly you're wanting to see, so I can try and figure out what would be the base of it and if it's a viable option. o3o Being that I am able to do a fair bit of web design, I'm trying to kind of look all ideas over and respond to everyone....so they have someone to hear them. =D XD

Also.

If anyone's interested in that artist alliance thing, I think I might try to rally interest for the sake of Menewsha. I wouldn't mind doing professional art so long as it helped, ya know? And my art's not particularly HORRID anyway. I don't think...

@Soryko: I agree...I'm concerned about the amount of coding though. I think that there's free widgets to use for chatlike environments for the time being, but...Idk if Mene would want something unique to them? OnO

@Yue: Maybe that's true...but then you have to consider the ethics of the matter, and how it would appear to the users. Ethically, opening a casino to those underage would look bad on Mene. And also, if thought about, would parents want to let their younger children pay to play for gambling? Since it's addictive and can lead to a real life horrid habit, which while Mene is not liable for such, it would look bad on them. That second thing I mentioned would make the idea infeasible since, well...if no one's allowed but the elders, that's a chunk of users who can't contribute to run a potentially expensive feature.

Snowberry 07-11-2010 11:15 PM

Poo to gambling! :illgetu: Risky business in my opinion. I doubt many users would go for it and it would reflect badly on the site.

Yeah, there are good/bad points to the monthly EI. But unlike the event which lasts 1 week or so it would be available the whole month. Hmm...forgot about the coding part for the prices, though. :/

The Wandering Poet 07-11-2010 11:16 PM

I'm against the gambling idea... because for sure some people will alter their age just to play it

Soryko 07-11-2010 11:17 PM

@Silver
I'd imagine the coding would be pretty difficult. xD But in the long run it might be worth it.

red rose 07-11-2010 11:19 PM

i suggest easier ways to donate. i wouldnt mind purchasing a mene-card from 7-eleven but going thu mail or paypal is to much a hastle. ever consider getting merchandise likes shirts n such

Silver Crusnik 07-11-2010 11:19 PM

You konw, bringing up coding issues, I think things have to be considered as well, whether they're viable for, ah...implementation. Like...for example, on Gaia, I believe I heard Reapersun is in charge of all the RIG item creation, and since they circulate those in and out fluidly, she's barely had time to update her EIs, the Case of Pietro and Catastrophe. This creates a lot of...negative publicity for her.

So we have to be careful our ideas don't overload the Menewshan artists too!! If it does, then they can't take care of our normal features. D':

@Soryko: Maybe, but if it's free and not bringing in money, just publicity, it's shaky. Because why pay for something when you can have free site funtiems?

God, I feel like such a jerk, shooting ideas down. I'm sorry guys. u_u

@Red: OMG MENE CARD. OwO I would loooooooove that. Though I don't really struggle with paypal. XD I think someone mentioned shirts, and I mentioned auctioning off hats or pl00shies.

Kaema 07-11-2010 11:20 PM

Silver: I know, sorry I'm so unspecific... I didn't really have anything specific in mind though; I was just trying to throw out an idea.
But do you think things sort of along the lines of what I was saying would work? Ones that are possible with Mene's coding?

Nivvy 07-11-2010 11:21 PM

I would be completely happy if Mene brought in advertising, just to bring in a little more money.

Silver Crusnik 07-11-2010 11:21 PM

That's alright. :) I'm not trying to attack you or anything, I just wanna try and help you bring your idea out into the open.

EDIT: Ah, I couldn't say, not being privy to the internal workings of this forum type. But I'm not sure if it's monetarily feasible if Inso's losing money. D:

@Nivs: Nyah!!! *glomps* = w= But yeah ads wouldn't be horrid, so long as they aren't like OHGOD ALL OVER MAH SITE SO I CAN'T NAVIGAETZZZZZZ!!

Rainbows 07-11-2010 11:23 PM

Cards are very hard (expensive) to get out to stores, from what I know. x: You have to pay for art to go on the card, printing the card, deals with stores to sell the card, and then shipping to get them TO the stores... et cetera. D>
.. a mene card would be awesome, but not really feasible atm.. in my opinion, at least ._.

Soryko 07-11-2010 11:24 PM

@Silver
I guess I was just thinking with more people, there would probably be more donations. xD Eh but you're right. .n.

Nivvy 07-11-2010 11:24 PM

@ Kratty

I'm sure the team here have their smarts about them, enough to make the ads integrate as much as they can. I'd definitely be willing to take an aesthetic hit, if it brings in some money D: *glomps* ^^

Snowberry 07-11-2010 11:24 PM

Liek a giant penorz wearing a sombrero with a twinkle in his eye and you can't see the forums!! D'8 It would be advertising sweaters made from alpaca wool.

On topic... I agree on not overloading our pixelists/artists. o3o

Kaema 07-11-2010 11:25 PM

Silver: Oh, I know you weren't trying to attack me or anything! And thanks for trying to bring my idea out. :)
You're right about that; it probably would cost too much. Maybe it could be an idea for the future though?

I like the idea of a mennies card! It would be like advertising and donating all at once.

Facade 07-11-2010 11:27 PM

I don't know if anyone's touched on this, but... Perhaps we can get some great funds from advertising RL companies/events on our avatars?

In other words, try contacting Pepsi, propose you make a Pepsi shirt and face mask for them, and they'll sponsor you with monies.

...I know Gaia got into this waaay back, and I'm sure it's at least 30% of the reason why they're still here today. I remember it being pretty neat when, for instance, they released that Nancy Drew magnifying glass and whatnot. I think that's about when it started.

Habbo Hotel also does similar things.

This can range from sponsoring movies, to companies, to household brands... I mean, it's not like we'll suddenly have a bundle of Brawny paper towels to place at our avatars' feet, but it wouldn't be exactly demeaning, to me anyway, for us to have the option to purchase a Pepsi shirt and wear it.

(By "purchase," of course, I mean for gold. This sort of thing shouldn't be for cash, considering you're getting paid by companies for showcasing their brands and whatnot to begin with!)

...Anyway, something to look into. A lot of the items created for these sorts of sponsorships are pretty subtle - for instance, that Nancy Drew magnifying glass I mentioned. Now, some things can get a bit garishly "DUH! THAT'S FROM HARRY POTTER!"-esque, but it still may be worth the thought...

$_$

Silver Crusnik 07-11-2010 11:29 PM

@Soryko: You're right, you are! But I just find it sad that even splitting mules off the community, there's a small percent of the community that donates, so adding more mightn't help...if people aren't donating now, more people may not donate either. Sadtiems...

@Rainbows: Ahhh, I figured there was something to it. You're probably right, if just making business cards is spency.

@Nivs: Yurr yurr. I trust our admins. They're smart and know how to make things work. I mean, look at these relatively new forum buttons. They're snazzy. = w= Also I haven't seen you in foreverrrrr!

@Snow: PENOR WITH EYE WAT. OAO MY SOUL BURNS WITH THE FIYARS OF HAEDEEZ. But actually. Lololololol. :XD And yeah, I had just thought of that and then I was like FWAH, WE'RE GIVING THEM SO MUCH PROSPECTIVE WORK.

It would be nice if the Menewshan community would do some "community service." Hahaha!

@Kaema: That's not to say it can't be an idea for the future, sure~ Just that if we's losin' money now, we have to be frugal. And mer, I so want a Mennies card, but again. I think that got set as not feasible too. u_u

OGOD I'M DEGRADING INTO CHATSPEAKS A BIT.

I definitely agree with this. The only reason I don't donate is because I'm terrified of having my debit card number stolen again. I bought something online ONE TIME, and ended up having $900 withdrawn from my account. If I could buy a card in the store, I'd be much more likely to donate. I don't wanna see Mene die. v_v

I would have absolutely no problem with advertisement sidebars if it meant the site could stay open. Sure, it might be annoying, but when it comes to advertisements, Mene could pull a deviantArt & offer paid subscriptions so that people could opt to turn the ads off.

Kaema 07-11-2010 11:29 PM

Facade: I don't think the sponsor item idea is too bad, as long as it wouldn't get to where Gaia was...I'm so sick of Skittles and Sour Patch Kids. xD Plus a lot of the items weren't great.
