The next day Belle had everything packed up and ready to go, Lucifer once again holding the eggs.
"So, you ready to go? And do you want to take the dragons this time again?" |
"I'm always up for a dragon ride," Andy replied. "So it's up to you. I'm ready to go when you are."
|
"Alright. Let's get goin, then." Belle grinned. She figured dragons would be easier and faster, and plus one of them was going to be out all the time anyway.
Now she just had to hope that the dragons didn't decide gryphon sounded good for lunch. |
Lien had handed the egg over to Temeraire for the time being, and had retreated to her ball again. That didn't surprise Andy. Temeraire was better at flying with passengers, since he had the harness, and Lien knew that.
"All aboard, then," Andy said. |
Belle climbed up easily, leaving Lucifer with the eggs. Thomas had retreated this time, leaving Eclipse out next to her.
|
The only one still out with Andy was Sesshoumaru, which was normal. Andy climbed up Temeraire's harness easily, and settled in for the flight.
"Ready when you are, Temmy!" Andy called once Belle and her crew were settled. Temeraire spread his wings and took off, making sure not to throw anyone off. |
Lucifer went up before they did, and he kept about even with Temmy for the flight.
Belle settled in for the flight, watching everything go by below them. She could see some dragons below them, but none of them were in the air, so hopefully Temmy would just ignore them. |
Temeraire did ignore them, for the most part. He held the egg closer to him, but he didn't start growling at them at all. That was a plus.
|
Belle grinned, pleased, and laid flat on her stomach to look down at the ground below. She could see a couple of bishis below, a couple of houses, a town or two. Then she looked up and found she could see gryphons in the distance, not too close yet. But she could see them.
|
Andy could see the gryphons in the distance as well and grinned.
"Out of the turf of one mythical creature and into the turf of another," she joked. "Life is great." |
"See, this is why I love this place," Belle said with a grin. "Bet you we could find a whole area with unicorns, too."
|
"Just go find a Kaetien," Andy pointed out. "Or a Moonshadow or something. Honestly, Anne Bishop covered everything."
|
Belle snorted. "Oh, I know. I'm just saying that I'm sure there's such an area, because I know there are plenty of books that have them."
|
"Yeah, probably," Andy agreed. She grinned. "I'm sure you'll trip over one of those areas eventually."
|
"It wouldn't surprise me in the least," Belle agreed with a grin. "Then again, I'll probably be looking for them."
|
Andy grinned.
"You probably would," she agreed. |
"Actually..." Belle whipped out her dex, typing in a few things quickly. She'd adapted to the new style very well.
"Here. This whole area is just mythical creatures. See? Dragons around here, gryphons around here, unicorns and winged horses and things here..." She grinned broadly. "So we can just keep walking and this whole area is awesome." |
"This should be fun, then," Andy replied, grinning.
|
"Oh yeah. I'm thinking we can spend some time here," Belle said, grinning. She was looking forward to this now.
|
"Sounds good to me," Andy agreed. She grinned teasingly. "Though if I see any mythical creatures terrified beyond rational thought, I'm blaming you."
|
"Hey! I wouldn't be terrifying them, I only do that to my minions." Belle grinned.
"No, you'd be the one trying to coax them to eat out of your hand while cooing and humming," Eclipse said dryly. "And ignoring the sharp claws or horns." Belle just grinned and shrugged. "You only live once." |
Andy blinked.
"Claws and horns aren't dangerous, if you know approximately how to deal with that they're attached to," she said. Hell, she dealt with two dragons, a dog demon, and a giant cat every day. |
"Well when they are attached to a gryphon or a unicorn that does not know you and has no reason not to attack you, they are dangerous." Eclipse glowered at them both.
"Hey, I haven't gotten myself killed yet," Belle protested. "Yet. And you have come uncomfortably close more times than I care to repeat." "Not entirely my fault..." |
"They have no reason to attack us, either," Andy pointed out. "Although I like to think I'm slightly more cautious than Belle is. Slightly."
|
"It is hard to be less cautious than her," Eclipse said dryly.
"Hey! I only jumped off that cliff because I knew he was going to catch me!" Belle pouted and pointed at Lucifer, who was completely ignoring them in favor of chasing small furry things. |
