Any Actors/Actresses here?

It's been my dream to be able to act and be either in a broadway or in a movie. I really would want to be featured in an indie film and enter it into the sundance film festival. Any other actors? Maybe we can all share tips and things of that nature. ;)

Hermes 07-14-2010 03:51 AM

I like to think of myself as an actor. =P
How old are you? What have you done in theatre before?

angelwings13 07-14-2010 03:53 AM

15 and I've written my own screen play and I've acted it out. I've also acted out various movie scripts. You?

Sforzando 07-14-2010 04:20 AM

Well, I see you've already met Hermes, the only other person on here that I know is into theatre. But, yeah, I'm into theatre. Definitely my career of choice.

EDIT: I guess since people are posting what they were in, I'll post mine, too. Though it's very short.

The Comic Book Artist (Artist #4)
I Hate Shakespeare (Mr. Narrator, Burbage, and Puck)
Into the Woods (The Witch)

I will be performing in my high school's fall performance of Sophocles's Electra, but we haven't been cast yet because not enough people have auditioned.

I will be directing my high school's winter play of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman.

And I will, most likely, be performing in our spring musical, Once Upon a Mattress.

Hermes 07-14-2010 09:36 AM

My only words for y'all are try really fucking hard, and be careful. There's a lot of shitty stuff in theatre. That's why I'm really not into theatre as much as I used to be.
But if it's what you want to do and it's still what you want to do when you're finishing High School, try your absolute hardest. The theatre world is way too competitive, and any in you can get is good. =P

angelwings13 07-14-2010 03:09 PM

yeah, i know its competitive but anything in the arts just seems like what i want to do and acting and photography are at the top of my list. if its really meant to be it will come to you.

I took 8 years of theatre acting classes (Spring, Summer and Winter). Did drama all through high school, and a couple of my HS musicals (I was part of Pirates of Penzance and Les Miserables).

I love theatre acting. In my graphic design and new media class, we're doing a bunch of movies, so I'm acting in them... I much prefer theatre. You can' t go back and redo it if you mess up, you just have to keep going.

R. Wiggly 07-14-2010 04:00 PM

I love Theatre. I was in my high school's productions of The Sound of Music and Annie. Then I was in a community theatre production of Grease.

Here at college I was in Lysistrata, but that's it. A lot of the time I'm too busy for more acting.

im not an actress xD im pretty shy

----------

ive tried tho and i guess im okay if i manage to break out of my shell.. ^^; i was in modern dance for 2 years tho and i performed in a show once lol

ChaosCass13 07-14-2010 07:58 PM

I love theater and drama. Although, I have bad luck when it comes down to it. Everything that I am in, I either have to quit from unfortunate circumstances, or my play is cancelled

I've always been SHY! I confess it I'm SHY! Can't you guess that this confident air is a mask that I wear 'cause I'm shy?
Sorry. I had to do it.

Cap'n Kidd 07-14-2010 08:22 PM

Ahhh, theatre! I'm not going to college for it (though I'm still going to take classes and such, and possibly meld my career within the theatre world somehow), but it's been a very big part of my life for quite a few years now. And since others have posted what they've been in..

Into the Woods (Narrator, High School)
Godspell (I sang "Learn Your Lessons Well". It was in a blackbox community theatre)
A Midsummer Night's Dream (Puck, High School)
Quilt (Chorus, blackbox theatre mentioned above)

And a few others.. meh. I don't want to sound like a confident prick or nothin'. But, if it's something you enjoy, you should definitely pursue it. There's more to theatre than just acting, though. Stage managing is really fun, I've dabbled in tech too. :]

Hermes 07-14-2010 09:00 PM

Photography's another fun one. Be wary though. Unless you do it right you'll be a poor fucker for your whole life like my Dad. xD

I was in West Side Story this year as one of the Jets, the year before I played Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast, and before that I was a chorus member in Footloose. Those were my High School's plays. I was also in a community/acting class production of Rent last year as Benny, which was interesting.

Cap'n Kidd 07-14-2010 09:11 PM

I stage managed west side story as my last high school production. :3 LUMIERE!~ <3 I always thought it would be really cool to be in Beauty and the Beast.

Hermes 07-14-2010 09:17 PM

Beauty and the Beast was a fun show. My teacher had an absurd tendency to cast way too many people always, but it actually kind of worked well for B&B. It turned into a really rich production. And dare I say I was pretty good? ;D

When you worked West Side did you think it was sort of beyond High School? When we did it the number one thing I saw was that it's not appropriate for High School. Besides things like the music is extremely complex and for the dancing to be any good it's beyond anyone who isn't already a dancer, I found that it's the kind of play where anyone as old as the characters isn't nearly old enough to be a good enough actor for the roles.

I'm going to see my community college's production of Rent on the 23rd of this month. My choir/drama teacher is playing Mark. I want to play Maureen sometime in my life.

R. Wiggly 07-15-2010 02:36 PM

Aw! Beauty and the Beast! I always wanted to do that one. I'd want to be the feather duster.

Sforzando: I've always wanted to be Maureen too! She's awesome!

Fifi! I couldn't be Fifi. I can't do French accents. (Or any accent, really).

I'm not sure why I'd want to be Maureen, but I agree, she's awesome.
Maybe Joanne, because I love the Tango Maureen.

angelwings13 07-16-2010 06:49 AM

what do you think of learning meisners method? i'm thinking of going to NYC for a summer to go to his playhouse and take acting classes.

Hermes 07-16-2010 09:06 AM

I don't know the name Meisner. =P

Sforzando, Maureen is by far the oddest character in that show. I never really understood her. The one thing about her I like though is that I don't think anyone could do that damn protest show without being pretty unique.
And isn't the feather duster named Babette?

Aetera 07-16-2010 04:19 PM

The most fun that I've ever had in a role, by far, was when I played the beggar woman in Sweeney Todd back in high school. Yes, my high school did Sweeney Todd. It was awesome. This was way back before the movie was even pitched, so not many people knew about it. The audience was quite surprised, considering that the other musicals we had done were along the lines of My Fair Lady, Music Man, and Crazy for You. xD

I've acted throughout middle, high school, and college. I'm not majoring in theater, though. I live in the creative arts dorm, however, so I'm always surrounded by it.

I always seem to get cast as the crazy people. I've played the beggar woman and Ophelia, among others. Should I be worried? xD

angelwings13 07-16-2010 04:24 PM

no not really. i wouldnt worry. maybe you are just good at those parts and are able to play more creative and different roles that take immense skill.

Hermes 07-16-2010 05:41 PM

I've always wanted to be the crazy. I always get cast as someone mildly funny or down to Earth. D:

Aetera 07-16-2010 05:47 PM

Oh, there is no better role than someone crazy, or someone with a death scene. I got both as the beggar woman!

I'm beginning to think that I'm being typecast, though. Muahahaha*cough* >_>

But seriously, the look on the audience's face when A Little Priest started was priceless. Half of the audience was howling with laughter, and the other half was staring, horrified, jaws dropped.

angelwings13 07-17-2010 12:13 AM

i love that song a little priest in sweeny todd =)
