It is a bicycle that only has one speed. A single speed.
In cities lots of people have single speed fixies and don't even use brakes, so lovely and simple.

Foxy 10-25-2010 04:08 AM

Interesting. Technology strikes once again! But I think I would favor old-fashioned methods in this particular case.

TaiyoTsuki 10-25-2010 04:41 AM

i'm going crazy on zomg at the moment

Hark 10-25-2010 02:12 PM

It's funny that you say you would favor old fashioned methods. As far as I know, the only more old fashioned method is walking.

Foxy 10-25-2010 02:37 PM

Hmm, no, I disagree. That would constitute as ancient. As far as old-fashioned goes, I would say that maybe--maybe riding donkeys and horses would qualify, but bicycles are still just about the epitome of old-fashioned transportation.

BlackCart29 10-25-2010 03:27 PM

I don't even have a bicycle, so no one speed here. But I agree with Foxy on the classifications. That might just because I love to ride me a horse, ole' fashion style.

Hark 10-25-2010 06:55 PM

I love simple modern bicycles because they tend to be the best of new and old.

And I find them so much better than cars. Cars piss me off.

BlackCart29 10-25-2010 07:47 PM

Cars? Why?

Hark 10-25-2010 11:20 PM

Well, just their affect on the environment and people and everything, and the way they look. Even though there are some pretty fuel efficient cars, over the span of a year and beyond that they actually have quite a notable affect on the environment. I even have to say that electric vehicles and the new hydrogen fuel cell vehicles I don't like much either because they're created anyway and the materials used to do so aren't too nice for the environment. Lots of people are really Dependant on cars too. They also require an extremely minimal amount of energy to operate (Unless you're drifting and such, but nearly no one is that classy nowadays). It just makes people seem so lazy, I'm not saying people aren't, but it still makes people seem so lazy.

I usually don't like the way they look anyway, unless we're talking about those hand made luxury sports cars, those are wonderfully pretty. There are enough ugly cars to unbalance the whole equation though.

:)

Foxy 10-25-2010 11:48 PM

I love cars. I still don't have my license (only because I have no access to any cars to practice/take the test with) but I wish I did! I've driven before... and it scares me, but it seems like I would get used to it.

Point is, though, I support cars. Perhaps if you brought the subject up with me a couple years back, I would have been in total disagreement with vehicles and anything harming the environment... but now I've come to realize that this world is already doomed. There is really no point in even trying to preserve it at this point.

Hark 10-25-2010 11:54 PM

It all depends on your perspective really. I currently hate my life and nearly wish I didn't have one, and have for the past few months or so. It's obvious though that other people in the world truly adore their lives and nearly everything about them.

I think it's worth a bit more effort so they can enjoy that even longer.

BlackCart29 10-26-2010 01:12 AM

Personally, I love my car. I go on long trips nearly every weekend because I love everything about driving. From speeding, and the pound in your chest when you know you've just done something super illegal (and you hope you don't get caught). All the way till summer nights with pounding music in a car full of friends and quick trips to the grocery store. I love it. I think that few people geniunely appreciate how amazing it is that you can travel hundreds of miles in a day, or that if you're in a bad mood you can just get up and go.

I realize that there are realistic environmental repercussions to the amount of gas that we, the human race, consume. Driving my car, however, has never been something I've been willing to sacrifice in order to deal with those repercussions. Though, I am willing to do a lot else.

That's just me though~

TaiyoTsuki 10-26-2010 04:15 AM

Speaking of cars, I can live without one. I could drive (with a TON more practice!), but like Foxy, I've got no access to a car or anyone who'd be willing ot teach me how to drive. Thus, I can't get my driver's license. Nor can I get a state ID, because the DMV isn't within walking distance. Yes, I literally walk everywhere, which puts anything off-campus off-limits to me.

It's times like this I wish I knew how to ride a bike...not that I'd be able to afford one anyway....

Hark 10-26-2010 02:15 PM

In proportion to the price of a car and bicycle is much much less expensive. If you consider the price of gas, with one years worth of gas you could buy a nice bicycle.

I like 'em 'cause they're old fashioned and quite modern at the same time. Especially the new belt drive single speed bicycles.

BlackCart29 10-26-2010 02:21 PM

I feel so sad that other people aren't car lovers like myself. Don't think that you need a license to drive a car - that's a myth~! I drove for a long time without one and it was fine.

Hark 10-26-2010 09:44 PM

I LOVE all sorts of things! Not cars though...

BlackCart29 10-27-2010 01:57 AM

That's understandable. I mean, not everyone can love the same things. I don't share your passion for bikes and that's fine!

Dying my hair right now!

Foxy 10-27-2010 02:34 AM

What coloooouurr?

I used to be a crazy hair-dyer.

BlackCart29 10-27-2010 02:54 AM

A different shade of red than my normal. I love my red hair, so when I mix it up I keep it in the strawberry red to deep red scale.

What colors have you been?

TaiyoTsuki 10-27-2010 04:40 AM

Hello there!

I've never dyed my hair, but I wanted purple or blue hair soooo bad in high school! Just come into ROTC one day with bright blue hair...just imagine what SgtMaj and Commander would've said!

'Course, I can still do that. I just won't be able to have blue hair on a uniform day.

BlackCart29 10-27-2010 03:31 PM

That's cool, people can make blue or purple hair look really good. Or even just one streak of it sometimes is interesting.

You're in ROTC?

Foxy 10-27-2010 07:55 PM

I've dyed my hair pretty much every shade of pink/purple... and, on occasion, aqua blue or red. The only natural colors it's been is either blonde/brown. Right now it's my natural brown color, but with a couple blonde streaks.

BlackCart29 10-27-2010 08:32 PM

That's really cool. With my coloring I really can't do adventurous colors like that (I'm a natural red head, pale skin, blue eyes, freckles... the whole nine yards.) But I've always wanted to. Interesting~

Hark 10-28-2010 01:00 AM

I LOVE freckles! :3

BlackCart29 10-28-2010 01:23 AM

Me too - It just limits some of your color choices, it's a very specific look. Bummin'
