I'll check out your raffle after my trip to the museum today. My partner and I are taking our son and going with a friend (and her son) to see the PostSecret exhibit! I'm super excited and hoping there's some queer related postcards to be seen. :)

Boobical_Ribs 08-26-2010 03:32 PM

Ooh.
PostSecret.
I wanna go with you!

ChaosCass13 08-27-2010 03:31 AM

:O Post-secret? I love that site! So cool...

I'm jealous. :\

And I myself am Bi, but I'm not interested in men at the moment.

Scribbled Lore 08-27-2010 07:24 PM

Waaah~! The PostSecret was so cool! If you get a chance to see it where either of you live you should definitely go. I drove a couple hours and stayed with a friend so that I could go. I'm also happy to report that my little one behaved himself well while his parents read postcards with the intimate details of other's lives on them. :XD

CZ now insists that we finish collecting the PostSecret books; we have the first three already.

Boobical_Ribs 08-27-2010 07:29 PM

Bahaha.
Thats great news.
:D
...
I just made art freebies for three people.
:D

Scribbled Lore 08-27-2010 11:00 PM

Aw, that's so sweet of you, Ribs. What kind of art do you do?

Boobical_Ribs 08-27-2010 11:51 PM

Headshots.
They arent the best yet.
Cause im still new at it.
(:
...
Edit.
Do you want a banner for the thread?

scholar 08-28-2010 04:59 AM

Ribs is changing her avi again! :D I can't wait to see what you come up with, sweetie.

Boobical_Ribs 08-28-2010 07:43 PM

Aww.
Thank you.
(:

Scribbled Lore 08-29-2010 02:30 PM

You've radically changed your avatar! What caused this change? *curious*

scholar 08-29-2010 07:44 PM

Lore, are you asking me, or Ribs?

(My change is because I like changing my avatars. I have three accounts here -- mine, the mule, and my charity mule -- and I'm constantly moving clothing around to change their looks. :D)

Boobical_Ribs 08-29-2010 07:55 PM

I always go naked when i want a new avatar.
(:

Moogle 08-29-2010 08:21 PM

Hey all. Dang it's been a while since I been on Mene.

How's everyone?

Boobical_Ribs 08-29-2010 08:59 PM

Hello iR.
How are you?

Scribbled Lore 08-29-2010 10:23 PM

I was asking Ribs but you're always welcome to comment, Scholar. :XD

Hi there! Welcome back. :)

Boobical_Ribs 08-30-2010 01:04 AM

Hello hello everyone.
:D

Scribbled Lore 08-30-2010 12:45 PM

We've got to get some actual conversation going on, folks!

How many of us have been to a Pride parade or event?

Boobical_Ribs 08-30-2010 10:12 PM

Does an allies meeting count?

Scribbled Lore 08-30-2010 11:27 PM

I'm not sure! Do you think it should count?

I've been to a Pride parade before and to a couple of the LGBTQ club meetings on campus before but that's all. I've never been to a gay club or bar before but then again.. I've never been to a regular club or bar before.

Boobical_Ribs 08-30-2010 11:41 PM

I think it should count.
I wanna go to a parade though.
:D
...
I had a dream that i fell in love with a girl named Samantha.
Only i was in my 20s.
Owned and was the head chef of my own restaurant that was well known in Chicago.
And Samantha was a famous pianist.
...
Best dream ever.
Ive added on to it in my head.

scholar 08-31-2010 01:24 AM

For someone who lives near West Hollywood, that bastion of gay culture, I've had remarkably little exposure to public pride activities. I think because the LGBTQ thing simply hasn't been a big deal in my life, because of where I've been to school, the places I've lived—it wasn't until I began studying queer culture that I realized its long, struggling history.

Dest1218 08-31-2010 02:15 AM

Ive never been to a parade, bar, or anything like that... maybe it's because I'm 15 and live in Texas xD
Or Because I'm still in the closet O.o

amayakumiko 08-31-2010 02:55 AM

I went to a Drag event in college. I was closeted then, even to myself! I 'm gonna count that as a kinda.

ljosberinn 08-31-2010 10:34 AM

I've been to Gay Pride quite a few times, though that's not saying much since where I live, there is I think the highest percentage of straight-identified people at the parade in the world, or something. At least there is one of the highest participation rates in the world. Never been on a float though. And then I've been to a few clubs and been part of the LGBT community at uni, though never a very active member.

scholar, I'm the same in that it wasn't until I really started studying this stuff that I realised it was some kind of a deal.. I never really thought about it till I was.. 18 I think, because at that point I got a bit confused in my sexuality as well as my gender identity, and I felt a sort of pressure from society to find a label to identify myself with. So I started studying these things and it's not until recently (I'm 22) that I realised labels are really crap, and I don't need to find one to identify with - something I've been trying to do for years and never succeeded in doing.

Edit: By the way, I love the name of this thread. QUILTBAG - awesome.

Scribbled Lore 08-31-2010 08:58 PM

My issue is that I'm always read as straight even when participating in queer culture. That was what my experience was like on campus because I didn't fit in with the rest of the gay kids. They were all about theater and the typical gay "stuff" and I was just beginning to explore my sexuality openly. I've been out of the closet since high school but it hasn't really done me a lot of good. I have to put forth a real effort to be seen as queer. It makes me sad and a bit mad too.

I want that label because it gives me a short explanation when people ask questions.
