Men can be included in feminist rants, Estrella, and, in fact, men should be included in feminist rants. What sucks for them sucks for women and everyone else as well. It's not anymore fair or right to airbrush a photograph of man than it is a woman.
*mini rant?* Anyways, your dissertation sounds awesome, Ljosberinn. :XD There are a lot of different ways you could take it and I hope you find the way that works for you, personally. |
Hello everyone.
Havent posted in here in awhile. |
Scribbled - I agree with airbrushing.
I think (of all people) Britney Spears once demonstrated how severe air brushing is in magazine. http://static.thehollywoodgossip.com...irbrushing.jpg And it's really not different for men. I absolutely HATE commercials where they have before and after pictures. I guess BEFORE that person lost way they just didn't smile or brush their hair? Stfu. :talk2hand: |
You mean the weight loss add Estrella? I totally agree those are terrible.
Frankly anything in the media pretty much has been altered. It's crazy what people can do with multi media programs. You ever seen that YouTube video for a super model? I thought it was good, well it showed everything they did speeded up... Is it just me or does the before of the two look a little over exposed? Kinda weird for a professional photographer.. |
Not just the weight loss ads but the acne medications and just about any commercial for self-improvement. Though, weight loss ones are probably the worst.
I think the most disturbing part is how much weight her arm lost. xD The after picture just looks unhealthy. |
The most noticeable for me would be the impossible waist line she's got going there..
|
Bleh, I've seen that image before and it's still upsetting to me. :stare: Of course, I'm glad that it's out there because it proves that not even celebrities are perfect enough for the media.
|
I recently watched some youtube videos demonstrating how that was actually done in Photoshop, and remarking that most celebrities have a permanent staffer who makes sure that all photos are touched up. That's why, I think, the beach photos that go on the front of tabloids, saying "so-and-so gains FIFTEEN POUNDS!" are actually just what they really look like.
I judge my body on its strength and capabilities. I'm trying to lose weight (and it's a long road in front of me) not to "look better" but to feel better, and yes, to feel better about how I look. That sounds contradictory, but somehow in my head it isn't. My husband finds me beautiful now, and I know I'm a good person, but I want to feel better about how I look, and have a better-working body. Make sense? |
|
I'll have to watch the commercial when I'm on my own computer but yeah, the way they edit pictures is almost disgusting sometimes. I think one magazine actually suffered backlash because of the picture they put on the cover was SO overly airbrushed that it pissed people off. I'll see if I can find that later, too.
I think it's really sad when you can't even recognize a celebrity on the cover because they've been "fixed" so much. As if they weren't fairly good looking already, ffs. My teacher that really stressed this topic discussed how long it's been going on to. Just crazy! I'm by far no expert but it irritates me the way media portrays shit that's not even possible without being SICK. Also, I understand that completely scholar. I'm by no means overweight, at all, but I am probably one of the most unhealthy people you'll ever meet as well. I love soda and junk food and I don't exercise. I keep trying to GET myself to exercise because I KNOW that I will have more energy and just feel better all around because I'd be doing something, but I friggin' hate exercising. I'm thinking about joining a dance class or maybe just riding a bike once a day. Running/jogging =/= fun. And I agree Pat, men face a lot shit too. I am guilty myself of calling some of my ex-boyfriends "girls" or "women" because they show so much emotion. (Of course, I've been referred to as "manly" because I basically don't hear anything that's said to me and I'm pretty abrasive sometimes). I don't mean anything by it, really, it's just a bad habit I have. x_X; I try to work on NOT feeding stereotypes but I'm totally guilty of it. Guys can show emotion and I think they should, too. I think one of the things that struck me that I've noticed more often now that it's been mentioned to me is the way that parents treat kids differently. When their "baby girl" gets hurt it's all coddling and hugs and kisses. But little boys are told to suck it up and walk it off. I had never really thought about it until I started thinking about my ex-husband's family. They totally do that. Granted, I tell my baby girl to walk it off all the time, unless she really took a big fall. xD But I also cuddle the crap out of my nephews if they fall hard, too. At least, I honestly hope I do. I think it'd help if people paid more attention to their own behaviors. Anyway tl;dr. >.> |
@ljosberrin -- No, not that. It was more of a Photoshop tutorial on how to smooth over bulges and bobbles and bumps. But I've seen the Dove video, and it's really great.
---------- Found it: Absolutely appalling. |
I can't believe what he keeps saying. He's really rude about it. :\
And his voice is obnoxious. I heard somewhere that the Dove thing is awesome except they still airbrush stuff even though they are campaigning or whatever to stop it. |
I lovelovelove the acronym <333
/flops in Sup |
Hiya Squid, how are you?
|
I'm alright. Massively bored, though.
And yourself? |
I'm pretty bored too.
I almost had a super entertaining conversation going on Omegle but it died. Then the next one just want to talk about his penis. |
I'm sorry you lost your entertaining conversation. I'd offer to replace it, but I don't think I have any of those
:c |
Whaev'. I demand you entertain me.
|
D;
Um... um... /does a jig /stumble /faceplant ;3; |
*giggles*
I mean...>.> You okay? |
Sometimes. I secretly wish I would faceplant irl.
Because I've never had a nosebleed. And I'm obsessed with them. |
I've probably gotten two or three nosebleeds in my 21 years.
One was from being punched in the nose. |
I'm really really jealous :c
Like, I went through chemo, and one of the side effects was supposed to be (honestly, this is a direct quote, not adding or taking anything away) "bleeding" and I didn't bleed at all. :c I don't want to get hit in the face, though. |
That's a rather odd experience to be jealous of. I've never had a nosebleed and I wouldn't go out of my way to have one either. I can imagine what the sensation of blood creeping out of your nose would be like and I don't like it. My grandmother used to have really bad nosebleeds where she couldn't leave the bathroom sink or else she'd get blood everywhere. I think that might contribute to why I find it odd you'd be jealous over bleeding.
Anyways, love that you love the acronym and welcome to the thread, Squid! |
Haha. Yeah, I really can't explain it. But I'm superduper obsessed with nosebleeds. I think they're ultra cool and I've never had one and it makes me so angry! lol
I've asked everyone I know how to get one, and the general consensus seems to be "dry air" ... So I just keep breathing through my nose and hope it gets dry xD I'd be so excited to get one n_n |
