Hi there, Seth! Welcome to Menewsha and to QUILTBAG! Thank you for sharing with us about yourself and for deciding to stop by our humble thread. :D If you don't mind sharing some more perhaps you could tell us about your hobbies and what you like to do in your spare time?

My name is S.L. or Lore and I'm a polyamorous, bisexual, queer (woman) currently partnered to a cisgendered man and a mother as well as a geek and gamer. Some of my favorite games to play are tabletops like Vampire: the Masquerade and console games like Final Fantasy Tactics. I listen to a lot of alternative rock and indie music, live in jeans and t-shirts and do a bit of sewing, mostly historical costuming.

Thoth Star 11-12-2010 07:44 PM

Hello Lore and Seth... I'm Gab, and I'm bisexual. xD how are you both today? Its so freaking cold out!
I'm happy though, because it started to snow in Tahoe and I'm totally ready for ski season!

Scribbled Lore 11-12-2010 08:41 PM

Nice to meet you, Gab! It's still really warm where I live - Indiana - but I'm going to be moving this week into a new apartment so I'm totally excited about the new move.

Fun Fact 'bout S.L.: I cannot ski! I've never been skiing ever in my life!

Is it exciting? Easy? Difficult?

Thoth Star 11-12-2010 10:22 PM

Sounds cool, Lore... Do you like your new apartment? Are you going to have roommates?
I was wondering, how much are apartments in Indiana?

I've been skiing since I was 3 yrs old... To me, its like riding a bicycle, since I've been doing it all my life.
At first, it was really hard on the legs and I would fall all the time. XD but now, I'm like an expert, I do jumps and I go down double-diamond trails (expert level). I think you should definitely try skiing at least once in your life!!! Its such an awe-inspiring and beautiful experience... Looking at the snow-capped mtns and feeling the icy wind in your hair. Mmm, I love it!

Scribbled Lore 11-12-2010 10:40 PM

It depends on where you live; in the area I'm going to be living in apartments are generally close to the following:

Studio - 250-350, most utilities included
1 bdrm - 300-450, most water/sewage included
2 bdrm - 400-500, most water/sewage included

And so on and so forth.

I'll be paying 335 a month for my one bedroom apartment with a 20$ fee for my "extra" cat(s) (per cat) plus water and electricity. Water is expensive in my area because I like in a small town now outside of a larger college town and my town pays the larger town for the water system but the electricity isn't bad. Plus my landlord is letting me have all of my cats!

I'll kind of have a roommate - my primary partner will be living with me and our son. He works full time for a call center speaking French and I'm a stay-at-home mom at this point in my life. (I'm looking forward to going back to school next fall semester and eventually having a job of my own again.)

I'll have to add skiing to my list of things to do before I die. :D

Thoth Star 11-12-2010 10:52 PM

Wow, those are very reasonable prices Lore... you should be able to find something nice. Apartments are sooo expensive here in CA. >< 335 is very cheap, nice! how many cats do you have? I love cats! ^^

Cool how old is your son? It sounds like your partner has a good job.
Heck yeah you should!

Scribbled Lore 11-12-2010 11:10 PM

We have three cats; Jaya, Casimir and Lt. Hannelore Poofytail (aka Hanners, for short). Jaya is the oldest and Casimir the youngest; Jaya is a mackeral tabby, Hanners is all white and Casimir is all black. Casimir is by far the prettiest of the trio but he's also the dumbest - beauty over brains and all that junk. Hanners is very shy and Jaya is very demanding.

My son, whom I affectionately call Spawn online, is just a little over a year old and so very close to walking. He could take off on his own at any point - we're all just waiting on him to decide to.

What about you - what are some interesting fun facts about Gab?

seth1313: What about you, Seth?

The_Crow 11-12-2010 11:35 PM

What the hell are are those prices smoking and where can our market get some of that? Here you're looking at:

300/month: Parking Space
500/month: "Couch" or "Short term friend deal"
700/month: subletting 1 room in a house with shared bathroom/kitchen/no guaranteed parking
800-900: Nice Sublet, master bedroom, own bathroom and/or large closet
950-1300: Studio Apartment

Scribbled Lore 11-12-2010 11:42 PM

That's ridiculous, Crow. I'm so glad I live in Indiana and I don't ever plan on upgrading to a more expensive area like California or the East Coast. :stare:

Estrella 11-13-2010 01:34 AM

Wow, those prices are insane.
Here a 1bdrm is about 575/month. X___x;

Scribbled Lore 11-13-2010 01:56 AM

Where do you live again, Estrella?

Estrella 11-13-2010 02:40 AM

Oregon~

It's not really that bad in comparison to some places.
But for a single mom who lives off of financial aid? Ridiculous. :talk2hand:

Scribbled Lore 11-13-2010 03:28 AM

Ooh, that's gotta suck. How do you make it work with your little one and you?

Estrella 11-13-2010 04:25 AM

Well, right now? We live with my aunt and uncle. It's nice but there are a few things I hate.
Well, actually, I abhor this house because it's so dirty all the time and I'm a neat freak and I just can't keep up with the level of messyness that IS my family. But also, my daughter and I share a room and while I love her to pieces, a bedroom of my own would be effing. lovely.

I've worked out babysitting with her grandma, aunt and dad so I don't have to pay for day care.

It's all going to change a bit if I get into the pharmacy program, though.
I'll be moving three hours away so I'll have to find day care.
And a place to say.

Can you say hello student loans? *has gone four years without a loan*

Scribbled Lore 11-13-2010 01:53 PM

The costs of daycare is why I'm not going to be working from here on out - my partner works full time and we squeeze by so right now it's okay that I don't work. I really, really want to go back to school and become a librarian that works evenings and weekends so that I can homeschool my son.

Right before we got the apartment we were staying with my grandmother and sister so I totally understand the whole living with family frustrations. We're still going to be sharing a room with our little one but we cosleep so it's not that big of a deal.

Estrella 11-13-2010 04:51 PM

I think the schools I am applying to for the pharmacy program have great day care options. I'm not going to homeschool but I am hopefully going to get my child into a great school. I'd like to get her into one that treats arts as equals. Have you ever seen the Sir Ken Robinson TED talks? He's really got some great points.

My ex-husband's sister is homeschooling. Right now, she does preschool stuff with my daughter.

And yeah, it's frustrating with family but I am eternally grateful that I have this option.
We'll be moving soon so maybe I can help set some rules with the new house?

Also, my cousin will have a BEDROOM! He's really the biggest mess in the house.

When it's just my uncle and I (my aunt works in the city a few days of a week) the house really does not get that messy except for what my cousin leaves around. :?

My uncle said he's going to start hiding stuff he leaves around so that he has to ask for it to use it.

Some more about me.. I'm single, just got pramoted at work. I'm now an assistant manager at Family Dollar. I play some video games but not a lot, mostly on my DS, addicted to animal crossing. Also have a game cube and ps2. Grand theft auto is my fave game on ps2.
I'm a huge comic book nerd. I always had X-MEN action figures and comics as a kid, also loved He-Man, and Voltron, GI JOE, and Thunder cats.
I love animals, and they seem to love me. If I had my way I would have a zoo or farm lol. My room mate and I both want those little pigme goats. I work with my room mate too, her name is Bambi.
I'll be getting my first car soon if all goes well. I'm getting a 1978 Cadillac Hearse. Yeah I'm a bit strange for getting that car but I always wanted a Hearse and I found one for sale in my town, and in my price range.
I have an older half brother and kind of adopted older sister, I get along great with both of my parents and they joke that I'm the son they never had but I have yet to come out andtell them I'm going to be transitioning.

Scribbled Lore 11-14-2010 11:23 PM

Are you worried about coming out to your parents or do you think they'll take the news well? If you don't mind me asking, are you still mostly closeted?

Why a hearse? :XD And! X-Men, Voltron and Thundercats are all awesome in my opinion. I have fond memories of growing up watching them in the mornings.

Thoth Star 11-15-2010 07:04 PM

Hey I'm back to say hello. ^^ hows it going Lore & seth?

Scribbled Lore 11-15-2010 10:43 PM

Hey, you look pretty awesome, Star! :D

I'm doing better than alright - I might even be doing good! I've got the key to the new apartment and the water is being turned on tomorrow. I am ecstatic.

Thoth Star 11-15-2010 10:45 PM

That's good... water is important. So you're gonna start moving stuff into your apartment soon?

Scribbled Lore 11-15-2010 10:59 PM

We've already started moving things into the new apartment but apparently I've lost part of my dishes. I'm a bit peeved by this but I'm sure they're either in the garage or the storage unit.

Thoth Star 11-15-2010 11:33 PM

Don't worry, you'll find them... or you'll have to buy new dishes.
I got all my dishes at a garage sale. xD I'm such a pinny pincher.

Scribbled Lore 11-15-2010 11:37 PM

Dishes are the ONLY thing I haven't bought at a yard sale and that's only because I have to have them match. It really bothers me when they don't.

I hope we find them - I don't want to waste money on new dishes when I know I have perfectly good ones somewhere.

Thoth Star 11-15-2010 11:48 PM

Oh, see I don't care if they match or not. XD heck, my socks never match either. lol//

Hmm, I know this is random, but I really want to go buy a snowboard or skis.
