((Sorry it's not a "real" person  I couldn't find any other picture that I like)) "Oh goodness, why is it I'm always late?" Malinda Richards, or Lynn as she was known, hurried down the halls of the castle, fixing obscure things on her uniform- adjusting her sword belt, making sure her collar was straight, smoothing her deep red shirt down, so on and so forth. It would do being late and looking sloppy... although being late was a crisis in itself. One might not have expected it from such a fair, pretty girl, but Lynn was actually the Captain of the Royal Guard, as well as the Prince's own bodyguard. It had been a job the young woman had been more then proud to take over when her father died prematurely in battle. Being the only child of Andrew Richards, she had to fight tooth and nail to keep a job that had been in her family for god only knew how long. But in the end, she had kept her job, and she had made a good point of showing that she deserved it. Except for lately, she had been arriving to court late in the mornings. It wasn't that the 22-year-old didn't try to wake up early, but she would spend the night before tossing and turning restlessly, chasing an elusive sleep- and all because of her charge, a certain prince that was catching her eye in ways he should not. She scowled at herself and pushed open the large front doors, keeping her eyes focused straight ahead and her chin tilted up slightly as she made her way to the throne. She could hear the people whispering- generals who didn't appreciate their female commanding general. She bowed in front of the prince, her dark, glossy hair falling into her eyes. "Forgive me for being late, your highness," she said in a soft, musical voice. Personally, she hated her voice. It was just too soft for someone who led men into battles and protected the prince's life. "It won't happen again." |
(That's fine. Mine isn't either..... It's the dark haired one in the front.) Prince Adam sighed. "She'll be here." He reassured, his foot tapping against the floor. His throne was cushy, a perk of being a prince. You'd think being a prince would be easy and fine and dandy. It wasn't. He had to know everything that was going on with the kingdom, write letters, take complaints from people within the kingdom and so on and so forth. It was horrible. A very busy job. And yet some people complained. There was only so much he could do! He was only one person, and his father had the easy job. His father just passed everything onto him "So you'll be a good King son." Which was a bunch of crap. Sighing, his eyes fixated on the big double doors. His gaurd was not only his bodygaurd but a commander and she should know better than to be late. He would have to talk to her later about this, provided she came at all. She'd been the daughter of the best of the best and now she was the best. A girl or not. Most didn't like seeing a girl being a commander, Adam found it entertaining. Especially because her voice and looks said nothing of a commander at all. Finally the doors opened and he let out a breath he hadn't known he'd been holding. He nodded. "It better not happen again, Commander Richards." He stood uo. "How about we get this started!" He said loudly, gaining a cheer from the knights and such. He sat back down and raised an eyebrow at Malinda. "Are you ready for the meeting? Or shall we wait another hour to begin?" Most who knew him knew it was mostly a joke, and it was with a big part of the truth. He wasn't just the prince because he was born to it. He had earned it. |
(Oh, he's adorable!) Lynn brushed her dark hair out of her eyes, taking her place at his side. "We shouldn't delay things any longer," she said, looking out at the cheering troops. "The men look anxious to start." Her cheeks still burned from embarrassment at the fact that she had been late, and his joke was lost on her. She turned and faced the men, her expression blank and her hands tucked behind her back as she waited for him to start the meeting. She knew there would have to be some kind of punishment for this. She wouldn't accept being let off without one, in fact. She needed to be more responsible- the Prince's life was in her care, and without him this war would fall to chaos. She kept her eyes straight ahead as the prince talked, zoning out slightly and only paying attention when her regiment was mentioned. She was still out of it from the night before, and although her expression betrayed nothing, she was struggling to stay awake. [[Eh. Crap post ]] |
(I'm guessing you mean the picture, so thank you on behalf of the artist. :3 lol)
The meeting began, and it was a long boring meeting about improvements, and war battle placements, and yadda yadda yadda. Even Prince Adam hated this meeting, and he did most of the talking. Soon enough though, it was over and he shook hands with everyone before they took their turn to leave. The last one left, and Adam closed the door. He moved back over to his thrown, and stared at Malinda. He couldn't say that he had never thought about kissing her, because he had, but she wasn't in a position where he could possibly think of her that way. Especially since they were going into battle and the last thing he needed was to be worrying about her, even though she was his bodyguard. Adam finally sighed, and decided to get the chastising over with. So, he opened his mouth. "Why are you late Malinda? This is maybe the fifth time in two weeks. You are a Commanding officer and my bodyguard, this is unacceptable." He told her strictly, before waiting to hear why she was late, again. A couple of times, he had let it slide, but now it was getting ridiculous and some were questions his power over her. If he couldn't keep a girl in check, how was he to lead their kingdom into battle, and all of that stuff. "Powerful" men could be so annoying sometimes he just wanted to throw them into the dungeon. Yes, it was that bad. They thought they knew how they'd rule the kingdom better, and questioned his authority, and tried to go against his order or decision. It was horrible really because they in the end just got killed for not doing what he said. Not by him or because he ordered it, but because of the mishappening of events. He knew what was best for his country, and their ideas as proven were not the best. |
(lulz X3) Lynn sighed in relief as the meeting finally ended, pushing hair out of her eyes. She turned to face the prince, awaiting her scolding. "I truly am sorry, you're highness," she said softly. "I didn't mean.... I've been having problems sleeping lately," she said, glancing up at him. She sighed and let her eyes drop to her feet again; oh, why did he have to be like that? She felt absolutely terrible for causing him trouble, and it didn't help that she thought he was just so damn cute. It had been part of the reason she couldn't sleep lately. She'd been agonizing over the fact that she was starting to think about her charge that way. It had been ever since the banquet they had thrown to welcome the reinforcements from the west; they'd all dressed to impress, and the way the light had caught his face when he looked at her..... it made her stomach flip into unexpected knots. She'd been fighting with herself for the past two weeks, telling herself that she absolutely could not jeopardize his life just because of a little crush that wasn't even meant to be. He was the prince, and she was nothing but the Head of the Royal Guard, his bodyguard, a shield to be sacrificed for him. |
Adam frowned feeling bad now. He sighed. "Why are you having troubles sleeping?" He asked, concerned for her welll being. He didn't want her to be tired when they went out into war. And he certainly didn't want her feeling bad at all. He cared about everyone of his soldiers and workers, unlike some princes he knew. He made sure they were all well fed, and had a nice bed and sheets and such. He would just feel terrible if one of his workers died, and a month ago one had and he hadn't had the heart to hire a new one to replace him. The poor man died of a horse accident. He hadn't come out of his room for a whole day. He would've stayed for a week if he could, but he was the prince and had duties to attend to. But he had had a very nice funeral for the man.
His father had held a ball two weeks ago, it'd been a wonderful ball and he had even danced with Malinda for a song. It had been a nice change to see her in a ball gown instead of her normal Commander uniform. Adam had to say that Malida was very pretty and sometimes took his heart away, if only she dressed in more feminine clothing more often. |
Lynn refused to look at him for a moment, afraid her eyes would give her away. If there was one thing about Lynn that just about everyone knew, her eyes gave her away. "I just... I've been anxious, I guess," she said lamely. "It's been quiet for so long that I'm getting jumpy and restless." She whinced sightly; she sounded like she loved to fight or something. That wasn't the case at all; off the battlefield, Lynn was a rather peaceful girl, kind of the "big sister" to those who didn't despise her. "It's nothing for you to worry about, your highness," she said, raising her eyes to his. "Really, I'll be fine. I promise I won't be late again." It wouldn't do to have Adam worrying about her; he worried about the troops enough as it was, and didn't need her little issues added to his plate (Not that she wanted him to even know what she was having issues about... that would be a mess....). She managed a smile, brushing hair our of her eyes. Now that she had thought about it, the ball was stuck in her mind. She had definitely not been the prettiest girl there, and they had only shared one dance, but it was something for her to hold on to. |
Adam watched her before nodding. "Alright. I trust you." Though a small peice of him still worried about her. He smiled and hair movement made him bite his lip and look away. He stood up and began on his way to start his Princely duties. He filled some papers out, fixed some problems that some town folk came to talk about with him, checked on his father, and so on and so forth. He barily payed attention to anything but his work. That was enough to think about already, he didn't need things distracting him. It was night time by the time he was able to enjoy himself and went to the horse stables. He mounted ontop of his horse after feeding him and rubbing his neck. He got off and fixed the saddle before climbing back uptop. He looked over at Malinda and smiled. She had to follow him all day, which he was sure must be such a boring task. He had to say he must be a very boring person. He held out a hand. "Coming for the horse ride?" He asked politely. Though if she wanted she could use her own horse, it didn't matter to him.
|
Lynn bit her lip, wanting to take him up on his offer. But duties stated that she must do otherwise, and she politely (but regretfully) shook her head. "One moment, your highness," she said. "Let me saddle my mount, and then we can go wherever you please." She went into the tack room and found a light saddle (Her battle saddle, a gorgeous piece of work done in black, gold, and red, was too heavy for a simple ride) and hauled it out, setting it on the saddle horse before going back and getting her own mount, a black stallion that had been sired by her father's own horse. "Let's go for a ride, boy," she said softly, leading him out of his stall. He snorted and nudged her shoulder, causing her to smile; if there was one thing Lynn loved most, it was horses. As a young girl, she would often go to the stables, to collect herself or find comfort or simply to visit the horses. It was a habit she still followed, and her horse showed as much affection for her as she had for him. She saddled him up and made sure the saddle was on snugly, adjusting the red blanket she had thrown on under the saddle for the horse's comfort. Then, she mounted up, putting one foot into the stirrup and swinging her other leg over gracefully. "Shall we go, your highness," she said, drawing up to the Prince's side. She still wanted to ride behind him, but she needed to be able to protect him, and she couldn't do that from his back. Besides, her horse needed the exercise. |
Adam nodded a little dissapointedly, and moved his hand back to his horses rope. He waited for Malinda, watching as she came back the first time and then back with her horse. He watched as she was gently with him and then got onto the horse gracefully. He had often done the same thing that Lynn had done. Except he had done it to hide from his princely duties when he was smaller. Now he just nodded. He was ready to ride around in the garden. He loved the garden maze. He had always loved different flowers. More than horses really. But he wasn't going to say that he didn't like horses. Infact he loved the garden maze most when he was riding through it on his trusty steed. And now he tapped his horses side and practically raced off to the garden which was nearby anyways.
It was around sunset time so it was the most beautiful time to go riding around the maze of flowers. He stopped at his favorite flower and got down from his horse. He picked a purple tulip from the garden maze wall and smiled down at it. Adam found it one of the most beautiful flowers in the world. He looked over at Lynn and held out a hand to help her down from her horse. |
Lynn took off after him, enjoying the rush of wind to her face. It was always nice to go on a run; her horse thought so too, his muscles straining to go faster. She reigned him in a bit so that she didn't take off ahead of Adam; it wouldn't do to loose track of him. She knew where they were going as soon as they set off- the flower maze. Lynn had always thought it to be a comforting place, and during her days as nothing more then a guard (When her father was still alive) she would spend time here every few days, enjoying the fragrance of the flowers and the cool, comforting silence the maze offered. She smiled appreciatively at Adam and took his hand, grasping it as she swung her leg over and dismounted. "Thank you, your highness." She let go of his hand a little reluctantly, then went ahead to examine a flower that had caught her eye. She always loved the orchids that popped up here and there, in clusters or by themselves, but her favorites were the red orchids; they were rare in the kingdom, but they seemed to favor the flower maze. Red just so happened to be her favorite color, so the red orchids were a real treat to see. |
Adam let her look at the flower she wanted while he looked at his. He put the small flower in a small pouch that was attached to his horses saddle and then walked over to Lynn, seeing what flower she was looking at. He smiled. "It is a beautiful flower isn't it?" He plucked one and twirled it in his fingers. He looked over at her. Slowly, he turned her to face him, and moved a peice of her hair to tuck behind her ear before placing the flower to rest on her ear. He smiled, staring at her. Sighing he moved away and got onto his horse again. He had wanted to kiss her, but he knew he couldn't. Lynn was his bodygaurd and he was sure she didn't think of him as the kissing type for her. Especially because she was his bodyguard. And the last thing he wanted was to be pushed away and humiliated. Especially as a Prince.
Adam tapped his horses side once again and they raced off through the maze. The maze he had gone through many a times. Why was this one different? |
Lynn blushed as he tucked the flower behind her ear, her eyes widening ever so slightly. She deflated when he got back on his horse- she had thought he was going to kiss her for a moment. Stupid to get your hopes up, Lynn, she scolded herself, as she mounted back up. He's the prince; he's got scores of pretty girls chasing after him. Your nothing but his guard. You aren't even a proper lady. The last bit stung her pride, but it was true, more or less. Lynn knew who she was, and she was proud of it. "My lord, where are we going," she asked, realizing she had no idea where they were. Had the maze changed? Or where they just in an unfamiliar part? |
(Lmao. When I said "Why was this one different?" I meant why did it feel different because he was with her. :3 But I see why you thought otherwise. Lol. Sorry.)
Adam rode out of the maze and to the lake, ignoring her question. He was a prince, he could go where ever he wanted to go. He didn't need to answer to her. His temper had come because he had felt like an idiot for not kissing her and trying. He was the prince after all, would she really have pushed him away? But then again, she wasn't like other girls so maybe she would have. Shaking his head his realized too late that the lake was coming up and there was no time for slowing down. He looked around and then jumped off the horse. He rolled and rolled falling into the lake while his horse reered and kicked his legs in the air stopping right at the edge of the lake, while Adam splashed into it. Adam sunk to the bottom, holding his breath. He opened his eyes the water stinging and began to swin upwards, but his pants leg was stuck to a branch. He tugged at it, but it was pretty stuck and he was running out of breath. He tried to swin strongly up but nothing was working. He just hoped Lynn was okay and wasn't about to fall in too.... |
[[WHOOOPS. I'm sorry XD]] Lynn actually spurred her horse on this time, frowning slightly. Why was he going so fast? Her horse strained to keep up, but began to slow down before they actually got to the river. Which meant she saw him fall in. "Adam," she screamed, reigning her horse in and forgetting all about formalities. She kicked her boots and sword off and dove into the water, swimming frantically to the bottom. She could see him struggling- his pants had been caught on something. She got to him and put one arm around his waist, struggling frantically to free him. Just when she thought she wasn't going to be able to save him, his pant leg tore free. She used the last of her strength to kick them to the surface, her lungs nearly exploding as they reached the top. "Y-You're highness, are you okay," she gasped between breathes, her eyes wide and filled with terror. She had been so afraid that she wouldn't be able to get him out, that she would have lost him. "Let's get to shore," she said, and began to paddle that way, still holding onto him. |
(Lol. No no it's my fault. :3)
Adam was still struggling when Lynn dove in. His eyes were drooping and he felt his strength beginning to give way, but she got him free just in time and he gasped for air, his throat taking in the air dryly. It hurt but he nodded at Lynn's question. He could feel her arm around his waist still and if he could have blushed at that moment he would have. Using the little strength he had to help pull himself onto the shore, before laying on his back and coughing terribly. It hurt so much. He was sure he had swallowed just a small amount of lake water but it tasted horribly and his throat was so dry it hurt. If he didn't get sick it'd be a miracle. He hoped the other side would take their sweet time setting up for battle. Especially if he got sick because the last thing everyone needed was a sick prince going out to battle. Though it would be funyn if the other side got sick because he coughed on them while they were injured. That thought made him smirk a little. |
